mini one 2004 handbrake tighten... when you get that little bit of movement on a step hill just adjust the nut clockwise to tighten the cable a bit more ...
You need a trim tool, there's loads on eBay and Amazon. If you don't want to spend any money, maybe try an old bank card or something similar, to slot in the gap and twist it but if you fix cars often, the trim tools are totally worth it!
