- In this video I had the pleasure of speaking with Andrew from dataleap. He is data scientist and youtuber who is providing a great resource free industry education. He breaks down complex data science concepts with his own unique brand of comedy sprinkled in. You also get to enjoy some corgi time with his wonderful sidekick meatball.

In college, Andrew was grinding for an 80 hour a week job as a management consultant. He had never written a line of code until his junior year. During his masters when he found out about the great opportunities in data science, he was able to teach himself the skills and land a job in just six months. Since then he's bounced around a lot of industries: from cutting edge startups, to billion dollar hedge funds and FAANG companies. Each time he swapped roles, he was able to increase his base compensation and the amount of freedom in his work.
In this video, we will talk about how he learned the skills, how he conquered the interview process, and how maybe you can follow in his footsteps. After the video, if you want to learn more about Andrew, check out his youtube channel which I have linked in the description and pinned in the first comment.

Hi! I was wondering if you will talk about Snowflake? Love your channel.
Honestly, I don't have much experience with Snowflake. I do know they went public recently though haha
@@KenJee_ds Haha yes I saw that. Was wondering if you are into investing in tech and also if you are interested in interviewing a snowflake engineer on your channel? :)
Crazy excited! Much love to Ken for the whole shebang. What memories...
Should be a wild ride tomorrow!
Premiering now! Take a pee break czcams.com/video/J1_n6Fh3eXA/video.html
I imagine Andrew is one of those people who is just really pleasant to talk to. There is just something about the way he communicates that is just so captivating. Loved the interview! :)
Boris, we gotta set up a call and find out! That means a lot to hear, thank you :)
It is true!
Thanks for the great videos as always Ken Jee! I love your content! Andrew is such a great guy as well. Please make more project-related videos. I would love that :)
Thanks for watching!! Hoping to make more of those by the end of the year!
Truly a success story! Thank you so much for doing this #KenJee and congrats to Andrew from #dataleap :D keep up the good work!
Thank you for watching Hector!
Awesome interview!! Finally learned about your background Andrew! I had no idea you were pre-med. Also super entertaining 😄 Ken - your interview series keeps getting better and better 😍 Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks for watching it through, Tina!! Appreciate the kind words
Thanks for watching Tina!!
thanks for doing this Ken!
Thanks for tuning in!
Hi Ken, Many thanks for your interesting and insightful sharing! I 'm from China, and have been following you on youtube. I worked for 3 Fortune-500 companies (European, American) in different roles (research, application, marketing) in the manufacturing industry in the past ten years. I like learning and taking challenges.
My current challege is to redirect my career development into data science field to keep up with intelligent era. I hope to master the big-data-analysis skill and apply it to the digital transformation of manufacturing industry. I started learning machine learning and data analysis respectively 2~3 years ago, and took several on-line courses on Udacity, Coursera, DataCamp. I'm major in material science and engineering, much different from CS , mathematcs or statistics. There's so much to pick up! Everytime I feel like learning more, I soon found out much more to learn. It's quite overwhelming...
Your sharing helped me know better about the world of data science. As you advised, I'm now working on the Kaggle competition. Even though, the course I took before had several projects based on the Kaggle datasets and competition, it's my first time to participate in on my own. Besides, this week, I started uploading my work to github and Kaggle to build up my profile.
Thanks for watching my videos Brenda! I think you are taking all the right steps to tackle this new challenge! I'm excited to hear more about your journey as you progress!
@@KenJee_ds Hi Ken, that's great! I feel kinda relieved to know that I'm on the right track. I will keep following you and send you more about my progress. BTW, I like the style of your videos. I don't feel it dry at all.
Does he have a LinkedIn?
Wow! Thank you so much for this! Gave him a follow! :-)
Also, I noticed that you have a BS in Economics. I am currently an Economics major too and am interested in your hearing about your journey from Econ to Data Science. I wonder if you'd be willing to make some videos about that because I would appreciate your insight and advice.
I would be happy to! My third video ever is actually about that. Excuse the poor production quality: czcams.com/video/IFceyuL6GZY/video.html&ab_channel=KenJee
@@KenJee_ds Yay! Thank you! I look forward to your future videos! :-)
Hey Ken Jee, hope you are doing great.
I jave a question, in your opinion how long it takes to become a good data scientist or data analyst for someone who is good in statistics and using excel, beginner in programming, knows the basics of sql, python and tableau
It really depends on you. I still wouldn't consider myself a "good" data scientist. There are plenty of things I need to improve on. Something more concrete would be how long do I think it would take for someone to learn enough to land a job. I think one can reasonably know enough to land an analyst position in 6-9 months, and 12-24 months for a data science one. I hope this helps!
@@KenJee_ds more than helpful, thank you.
brah when the video was minimized and you know it start moving i though you are flithy frank
I want to ask you a question and ı hope you will answer. I am willing to be a data scientist. After 3 years, ı can have a job because i am in a college right now and student of statistics and computer science program. And my question is; will data science job die until i get the job or data science will die in the future?
bro, it's only gonna grow. Data are multiplying every year.
The data is now like oil in the late 19th century
I would expect it will be around for quite some time. I'm not a fortune teller though haha
