I can say personally I get hunt with a bare bow and that was actually one of my first beer pose I've ever owned in my life back in 89 I took a bull elk you know it's aero dynamically fit !! They shoot well!! But of course it's all about the Hunter and the person that's holding it and now we are nowadays we have all these high style bows aerodynamic nothing's really changed on them it's just the style really is where it's at and those bear bows you could shoot a Target at 40 yards and have a good impact and that's totally awesome that you guys are sharing this cuz the older the better they say in tools weapons those are the ones that have been holding on all these years and still will kill..
      Thank you for sharing guys

Im old now and started with a recurve and hunted with most of these old bows and arrows and i also have used most broadhead styles. A lot of people comment that you need to use this weight arrow or these kinds of broadheads or this brand of bow. This video is the perfect example of it really doesn't matter what you shoot. Putting the arrow where it belongs is the most important thing. Learn what your efficient range is, learn what shot angles to take and tune your bow and you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.

My grandpa gave me his 1977 bear polar ltd earlier this year, I took it all apart and cleaned it up. I put new cables and strings on it, tuned and built some good heavy arrows for it 600 grains with 20% foc. I am using it this year and shooting it traditionally like my grandpa used to I've passed a few already but it's getting harder and harder. This is awesome and I enjoy seeing you guys try something that more people really should. Bows are over priced these days and you don't really need all the bells and whistles they have on them as long as you practice with whatever you have and are confident you can kill a deer with it. Good luck the rest of the season gentlemen I can't wait to watch one of you kill a nice one!

Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine czcams.com/users/postUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older. But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.

I’m one of those old guys...actually started with a Bear Polar II. My brother and I combined our money to buy it, and would take turns practicing and eventually hunting with it. I liked Jennings the best, but went traditional after maybe four years with compounds. Zero let off! After a lifetime of bow hunting at age 61, I may have to take an easier route at some point. I enjoy watching y’all’s hunts, and keeping the sport going.

I’m only 30 and I killed my biggest archery deer with this same bow 31 inch draw and 70 pound pull at 60 yards in 05 my friends dad give it to me and I got really good with it but too think someone could get a deer and only stay under 20 yards is Embarrassing too hear someone say. All this new 300+FPS stuff has really made ppl think the old stuff don’t work 😂 I’m young but old at heart. I just got a crossbow this year payed a lot for it and love it but practice in whatever you use is the key. I knew from the post they got one but hearing the worry was pretty funny. I’d have been like naw it won’t kill I’ll give u $2 and go kill one 😂

  • @chrisnixon9529

I was 15 when my father bought me my first bow, it was the Bear Whitetail II and for its time it was one of the most popular bows for hunting. I hunted with that bow for 5 years and never harvested an animal. My second bow at the age of 21 was a Pearson Spoiler Cam (1991) it was what I believe the first “speed bow” and I got my first deer with it. I still have both of those bows and have tons of memories using both. This was a great video, enjoyed it immensely.

    • @CCRider5312
      @CCRider5312 Před 2 lety +2

Yeah I said in my comment I owned that same bow back on the 80’s.
And you’re right I had a 3 finger shooting glove and we Had one arrow string knock on the string. I put my arrows knock under the string knock and let gravity hold it in place. When i knocked them on the string and pulled arrow back with 2 fingers Index over the arrow and middle finger under the arrow knock. I used my ring finger to fit in the corner of my mouth as a anchor point to look down the arrow! I started bow hunting with a long bow before compound & Cam bows & site pins ever came out. So you had to learn how to shoot by aiming down the arrow what they call instinct archery 🏹 shooting. It took me forever to get used to the first site pins that came out that you mounted onto a slot in the bow body. These long site pins came out long before these new round sites with the pins in them now. Bows and bow hunting has come a long ways since I started hunting with a bow. But this Particular Bear bow he’s using in this video I had one and we used 3 long site pins 10-20-30 yards on that model & that’s all it was really good for 30 yards tops. The first Bear cam model I bought came up in speed and got us accurate to 40 yards. But like you said for him to be more 80’s era correct with that bow he should’ve used a 3 finger glove & drawed with 2 or 3 finger and used the long site pins instead of the new age site. Like I said in my comment above Easton sold us old Timers a ton of those aluminum arrows. Because that was before graphite arrows was mainstream and every arrow we released in the woods into a animal or we hit the ground with would crack, bend or break lol 😆. These young guys got it much better now, they got 300- 350 feet per second bows, trigger releases hooked to the wrist with 70-85 % let off. So on the draw weight they pull back they’re only holding back 10-20 lbs. They don’t know what holding back 65-70 lbs is like trying to get a good shot. I’ve spooked & lost some really good bucks back in the day. Because I had to let down the bow because my arm and shoulder was hurting so bad waiting on that Buck to turn just right for that perfect kill shot.
These bow hunters got it made in the shade bow hunting now.

Yeah, I tried to get all gucci and bought a set of First Lite gear this past year. I got one hunt out of their Obsidian pants, covered in seed ticks so I washed them in warm water. Not hot, warm. Tumble dry on low. They shrunk up to where a kid could wear them. First Lite wouldnt stand by it. Partially my fault for not following washing instructions, but I thought it was crap that such a high priced item is so finnicky. Im done with First Lite. I bought a pair of Magellan camo pants from Academy for $17. Done spending money on expensive hunting clothes

My first bow was a Bear Hunter bow, 1981. Had Easton gamegetter aluminum arrows set up for it and Bear razorhead broadheads. Shot with my fingers with a Bear leather three finger glove. I had a bolt on quiver, cable guard and a heavy, short stabilizer, brass sight pins. It was so easy to change out the strings yourself with those bows and using a gauge and special pliers do you own nock installation. Weren't at the mercy of the bow shops for costly maintenance like you are now.

Those silencers were string puffs, had them myself back in the day. Got my first archery deer in 1991 with a Pearson Renegade pulling about 55lbs and using a finger tab. I was so naive since my dad never bow hunted and I only learned from reading magazines. When you're young and interested you can learn so quickly. Those were the days for me. Keep up the good work and thanks for the videos!

When I was a kid my dad had that exact same bow. When I was a teenager I shot it through a chronograph, and then I shot the same arrow through my Damon Howatt recurve. No joke, my recurve shot 8fps faster. Very cool hunt fellas! Love it!

You need a 6” overdraw, Tracker string and an Amaker climber! My first bow in about 1990 was a Martin compound bow with a WOODEN riser and limbs. The wheels were about the size of a half dollar. In 1995 I upgraded to a Mountaineer with cams that I still have today even though I haven’t hunted with it in over 20 years. A friend of mine owned Diamond Bows when they were top of the lone and I got a Hornet from him that I still use today.

The hardest part about trying to do budget build is the judgement from the bow shops. One of the reason it has taken me so long to get into bow hunting was all the funky looks from the guys in the bow shop

Great Hunt guys. I also take out some of the old compound bows I purchased off eBay or from local yard sales. It's always a cool hunt using bows from 25+ years old.You can definitely tell the improvements the bow company's made over years when shooting them but those older bows have killed many deer and it's good to see others out there still using them to hunt with also.

I have a 1969 Bear. I took a 4x4 last year with it. Newer doesn't always mean the old stuff is bad, you just have fewer advantages. It was really neat taking a deer with a weapon that my grandad used for many years and find out its still accurate.

I smiled the whole way through the video because I like the information you all share and you all seem real and show that you are having fun.
