    Spoiler Warning
One of my favorite scenes in the book is when Italrulde says thank you when Eliyas pushes him off the cliff. Since he had figured it out but was powerless to stop himself. That and when Demandred POV is the only person who realizes how good Mat really is at his battle plan. Everyone else thinks Mats doing a horrible job meanwhile the only other true battlefield master believes he’s up against LTT because he doesn’t believe anyone else could be that good.

It's always the opponent's POV that really shows how good the protagonist is. In Red Rising book 5, when Lysander's POV shows how terrifying Darrow truly is and then it cuts to Darrow's POV after and the contrast is so epic. Jizzzzzz

Don't forget Logain giving up his search for Demandred's sa'angreal. He wanted it so that the he would be feared and in turn the black tower would be feared because of their power. Instead he gives it up to protect defenseless people that were being slaughtered by shadow spawn. In doing so he sees the people he saved look at the Asha'man as saviours, not as monsters. It's such a beautiful ending to the Asha'man and Logain.

I have never feared a character more than Demandred. His power was built so perfectly. First, his terrifying introduction where he not only wielded powers never seen before by the reader, but brought with him an army that undermined every advantage the reader assumed the protagonists had. Then he assumes the most powerful position the reader can understand regarding the one power, a full circle feeding him the maximum amount of both sides of the one power. And striking down both of Elaine's brothers, who are some of the greatest warriors on the side of light, enhanced by various ter'angreal. Lan's victory is not only an overwhelmingly emotional release for the reader, it is so purely Lan, in every way. Everything we come to know about Lan is thrown full-force into Demandred, and he swiftly, precisely, and professionally deals with the threat in a way only he can. Again, one of my favorite scenes in the series, or in any book.

Eric Phennicie I really loved how all throughout the series, Demandred is shown in the background speaking with the Dark One about how successful his plans have been. We know throughout the series that he’s been up to something, and been successful at it, but we have no idea what his plans are until literally the end of the series.

Lan is by far my favorite character. In many ways Lan would be the hero in almost every other fantasy book dealing with these changes in the world in which he lives, where the stoic man with the sword does not always make a difference. Lan's victory over Demandred was perfect for me, in many ways it illustrated the importance of the battle between Rand and the Dark One. The man with the sword made a difference in this world but ultimately, it was still the Dragon Reborn that won the day. However, he could not have done it without Lan. Rand's victory was built off of the efforts of ordinary people's selfless acts.

I always considered Darkseid to be my favourite villain. My new favourite is Demandred. He was amazing and terrifying all at once. I just realized that Moiraine also knows. Dont know if that was obvious? XD If so, then sorry, Ill write it anyways… At the end after being rescued, she has infos from the Aelfinn/Elfinn about what will happen. After 14 novels emphasizing how Moiraine always speaks the truth, we have to pay attention to the wordings. She says in the end, when she quotes the prophecies, that Rand is be the one person „they know wont walk away from the fight“. He did not - I found it quite obvious that it was Elan who carried him not the other way around, because his closure has sth to do with Elan wanting to know everything, that having broken him and him being a puppet for the Dark One. So the moment „Rand“ walks away from the fight, Moiraine must already know its not him.

Wheel of Time was one of my favorite things for years. I read Dragon Reborn first because it was gifted to me. The story seems to end with the Dark One dying, and I thought it was over and was satisfied. Then it said “continued in book 4”. I then spent the next 20 YEARS waiting for it to end.
As the years wore on and Mr Jordan passed away, I just wanted closure. I tried rereading the series in my late 20s/early 30s and found I didn’t like it as much any more. Maybe it’s harder to immerse yourself fully in fantasy worlds as a busy parent than as a teenager. I listened to Memory of Light as an audiobook. Hearing Michael Kramer read “this is the end of the final book of the wheel of time” was really moving for me. It brought back the decades long journey for me and how important the series was to me growing up. I also thought about how big a part of the narrators’ lives it must’ve been. Kramer was clearly emotional, pausing every few words.
It was a wild ride and part of my growing up, and I’m glad I could be a part of it.

yep, watched all 14. You did a great job for the most part and I appreciate you going through it all. I will say that the last battle with the dark one was made even more climactic when basically the fate of the world rested in Perrin's hands. Despite his compulsion from Lanfear, at the moment of truth with Rand Moridin Nyneave and Moiraine, Perrin's actions were key. I really loved how they did that part in the books, and made the anticlimactic death of Fain sting a little bit less.

So.. I just finished reading Memory of Light an hour ago, and I already feel the post series depression building in me.
It feels like a lost a best friend. All the characters lived through me during the last year, and I cannot believe it is all over.
At the beginning of this year on the 3rd of January when I started reading ''Eye of the World'' I told myself that I would never finish the series... but here I am now 11,300 pages and over 2700 named characters later it has finally finished.
I have read Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings, but imho they cannot compare with the greatness and immensity of the world of WOT. Maybe I am just subjective to the feeling that I've just finished the books, but this is the best fantasy series I have read so far.
Who was my favorite character? -Blood and bloody ashes it is Matrim Cauthon, I found in him very similar characteristics in myself(dancing, joking, gambling)
Which character death made me feel most sad? It was definitely Hopper...
Which book did I enjoy the most? All were great, even the slow ones from 7 to 10, but if I had to pick one it would be Lord of Chaos, especially the chapter of Dumai's Wells. I really liked when Rand was locked up, and felt that the shield from the enemy Aes Sedai was becoming weaker and weaker, and his laugh to what will happen when the shield faded.

I think the realization that suldam is the string that unravels the seanchan or at least their damane tradition. Especially when Tuon realizes she’s one of them. I always thought this was a parallel to the founding fathers. Many of them wanted to end slavery even though they themselves participated. Georgie Washington wanted to free all his slaves but by law he couldn’t and only achieved this through his will. The ones that wanted to end slavery knew ending slavery would divide the country. They decided the best play was to unite all 13 colonies into one. They knew that by establishing a government based on the idea that all men are created equal and creating a constitution that provided a mechanism for amending it would ultimately be slaverys downfall. It took longer and cost more lives than they wanted but it did happen in the end. There’s an easy argument to be made that had they tried to end it then, there would have been 2 separate countries one of which would have their entire economy based on slavery. Without that connection to the north and the pressure secession out on the south, slavery may not have ended for quite a long time so they made the hard choice that had a better outcome. This is what egwene did. She sacrificed some sisters thinking the influence of the other nations in the dragons peace would ultimately end the practice whereas if she refused, the seanchan would isolate themselves, keep the custom indefinitely, and possibly kidnap even more women.

Yep its gonna cause a civil war for sure the truth isn't nearly as important as whtfolks believe. So due to human nature alot if not the majority of Seachan. Will just say it's a lie or some other justification and try to maintain the system. Which will eventually lead to war just as with the Confederates. Its only a matter of time I'd say 50 years tops.

Some shoutouts for minor characters here:
Leilwin becomes Egwene’s warder after Gawyn’s death. Egwene releases her bond before she dies and Leilwin is able to relay Egwene’s final message to Logain about breaking the seals.
Tam makes a path for Lan with two rivers archers to get him straight to Demandred. This all happened shortly after Bela and elaynes horse dies, and it did not escape me that Lan jumps off Mandarb so he is not a target 🥲 I’m sure I’m not the only one who wants to be Nynaeve and would settle just being LAN’s horse 🎉
When Galad gets almost killed Annoura burns herself out to save him for Berelain. I wonder if she was happy to learn that she could be healed now?
I thought I remembered Hopper appearing again in the end like when the hero wolves appeared with heroes of the horn. Did I imagine that?
Bela who was a faithful steed for so many characters, even Siuan who hates riding. She gave her life saving Olver so he could blow the horn. I shed the most tears at that part.

Androl played a huge role in this last book. I enjoyed the part where he used a tiny gate way to keep himself from getting bale-fired, and made a gateway pop in front of/behind the person channeling against him so they essentially channeled at themselves. He may not have been the strongest Asha'man, but his ingenuity with the abilities he had was genius. I enjoyed reading what Pervara and Androl discovered about their bond. If I'm not wrong, it was briefly touched on that they were able to weave through each other? Really neat story line.

These were fantastic, thank you so much for doing them! I always figured that a different outcome altogether happened at the Last Battle: the Dark One won. He's been known as the Father of Lies from the get-go, and what better way to ensure your continued survival until the Third Age comes again than by lying that such a world without the Dark One exists? I know that's probably not how it was meant to be taken, but it's always seemed that way to me, that the Dark One tricked Rand and ensured his survival. Thanks again for such a great series!

    • @rockyseverino9230
      @rockyseverino9230 Před 4 lety

The Dark One survived. And Rand knows that. When the second age comes again they'll drill a bore into his dwelling again and there will be another dragon to lock him back up.
      Hence the "wheel" of time.

    • @moormanjean5636
      @moormanjean5636 Před rokem

I think its deeper than that. Rand saw that when he created a world without the Dark One, people had no choice than to be good, so they had no free will. He saw that this was just as terrible as having no good in them, so the only logical option then is not to kill the Dark One but just lock him away in a permanent fashion, at least as permanent as you can get. At the end of the day, theres an argument that maybe the Dark One was never truly the problem, it was power hungry humans, such as the Forsaken, the Black Tower, and Padan Fain, to name a few, that really brought about most if not all of the evil throughout the series.

@@moormanjean5636 That's definitely how we're supposed to take the information on the surface, since that's almost word for word what's written in the book lol. I just think it adds a much deeper layer to the ending, and brings the whole series full-circle from the many-threads-endings in TGH to the name Father of Lies to the Fisher game that's clearly a metaphor for the overall series if the Dark One lied to Rand to give itself another chance the next spinning of the wheel

Despite the last book being 3 books it still felt rushed. I don't know what happened to the foreshadowing that Egainin would somehow show Tuon that damane's teachers could also channel, crumbling the Seanchans society to a degree but this never happened. I also expected Tuon to finally show some affection fir Matt.
I also expected Birgitte to not be killed and to met Gaidal when the horn was blown.
Sanderson finished off the series very well, i especially liked how he immediately started writing from a lot of various characters perspectives...but Elayne and Egwene were almost insufferable to read at times, i thought that both became quite arrogant and Elayne may of well just turned to the shadow with some of her irresponsible actions, one that was directly responsible for Birgittes death...there just never felt like any real development/learnings from Elayne, she was constantly putting herself and the entire struggle of the light in jeopardy.

Daniel- Thank you for making all of these. I just finished a couple days ago and I'm thrilled I can finally look into all things 'Wheel of Time' without fear of spoilers and can revisit some parts of the saga I had questions on. You did a wonderful job summarizing the most important plots. For this video I had a question. When Rand was with the DO outside of the pattern, I understood that they were taking turns showing their own interpretations of how the world should be rather than just the DO showing Rand different realities. Do you agree? You had mentioned that the DO showed Rand all the various realities including the one without the DO (19:00). I think it is worth mentioning that Rand had the power to create visions of realities, mainly the one without the DO, because he ultimately realizes how much worse it would be if people did not have their own free will. It is more powerful that Rand discovers this after creating the vision himself, because he learns how wrong removing the DO completely from the world is. In fact , he accuses the DO of altering his alternate reality. Even the DO admits he didn't tamper with Rand's vision. It's such a minor point- but an important one to note.

It's something I've seen in the books I've read so far: Egwene continually thinks of the boys as still being the silly boys they were in their village. About Androl's epic struggle to make a gateway when the Black Tower is locked off, I always had the impression that he actually managed it just before Perrin removes the spike. I might be wrong though, I think it is sort of up in the air at this point. :-) In my personal head canon he did, it really doe¨s not matter in the long run. I know Androl has a gift with gateways far removed from his power level which is really insignificant. In theory he should NOT be able to weave the threads to make one as he should not be powerful enough, this has again and again been shown to locked behind a certain power level which Androl is not even close to possessing so he has as serious talent for it. Which I feel gives him the possible ability to bypass the block, but again it is just a theory. Feel free to disagree.

It's been quite the journey though what surprised me most was how well I remembered most of it. The only thing I would change would be an extended epilogue with coverage of how everyone faired after the victory. I'd love to hear how Perrin and Faile managed their kingdoms and marriages with Elayne and Rand's offspring. How Mat deals with marriage to Tuon. Do Lan and Nynaeve have children. About a reborn Malkier. That provides my only sadness.

Was so excited to have a tiny bit more WOT to read. Though i feel i would have liked it if it had been left in the book. It really was just enough insight for me. One complaint I had with Memory of light was knowing nothing about the Sharans after they came into the battle. I wonder if they cut anything else? And it couldn't be the true source because it was lanfear and Ishamael (I believe) who hypothesized a new form of power both men and women could use and that caused them to drill the bore and free the dark one.
I always figured there's the true true source, from the creator.
      And he was using that.
