  • After a little trial and error, I figured out what my printer issue was. Always double check your connections, remember this printer had both circuit boards and the power supply removed and tested. Lucky for me is was a simple fix and the print head looks great!

    That's fantastic that you got the Gerber Edge up and running. I actually learned to cut letters on a Gerber all in one (don't know the model number) machine that had the keyboard, cutter and font cards all in one machine. It used perforated 7" wide rolls of vinyl. I'm looking forward to to seeing what type of printing can be done with the edge. It seems like a good printer to have if you don't do much printing because there is no print head to clog with dried ink.

      It was the 4B, it was out a little before I got into sign making 30+ years ago?? I bet to the day they are still out there and will run...
      The edge is not the most cost effective printer out there, inkjet has a huge advantage cost wise. But the specialty colors it can print, there might be 1 other comparable that would be the SUMMA DC3/4.
      I'm hoping to have the EDGE hooked up and printing this week, fingers crossed!!

    Omg I’m a happy you got a gerber! I’ve got one and I still don understand how it works.
    I know that it makes high level
    Prints, but it’s quite expensive.
    I get it to print.. sort of l, but with a lot of text before the print and I can’t seem to get rid of the text in the software
    And
    The black cutting boxes are very hard to read by the summa for cutting out stickers.

      Well, I'm still learning it myself. What software are you using to print with? I seem to remember it prints the file details when it starts up, not sure if that is what you are referring to.
      I also know the Gerber 15" plotters are the easiest way to cut the vinyl but I don't have one and going to try it with the Q54.

      @@TheSignGuy hi thanks for the quick reply. I use easysign software to make the files and use the omega software to export it to the gerber.
      I know ther gerber cutting machine works perfect with the edge, but I don’t have one. So all the cutting is done with the summa. But to get the summa to cut it right is still a mystery to me

    I have a similar issue, that only happens from time to time. And its only with Gerber White. Any other colour prints fine. Its when it does the white underlay that I get some sparse areas, not like yours, but just a bit and when its printing I can hear the white normal than usual. I even opened up a new white foil and it was the same issue. I also had to stop printing using the 300dpi setting because the white was not printing and making loud noises. So I change the print setting to EDGE one, It takes double the time to print. But is a higher resolution and that was the only way white would work. Never had an issue with white since.. Until now its leaving some random fade spots. I tried to and nothing. If I did a whole BLACK foil no issues. Just white is my issue.

    • @TheSignGuy
      @TheSignGuy  Před 4 měsíci

      What I've tried to narrow it down between a setting, machine or foil is run a foil that I know works. Use the same settings that print perfect but try a different foil, that is how I get my issues sorted out.

    • @spAZZZ82
      @spAZZZ82 Před 4 měsíci

      @@TheSignGuy I Just use all default settings, Not even sure what to change, Every other colour works perfect. Its always when the white does the full fill. Like if its doing white in the design. No issues, then once it does the whole back fill. Is the issue at the moment. I also have a Gerber Edge FX. Which is the newer of the 2, but that thing has been trouble for ever. I don't even use it anymore. I still prefer the Edge 2. I did notice a setting. Not sure if its going to effect the print. But it was set to ProcessPro, and I just changed it to ColorSet because that's what it says on my Gerber Foil, and I am also printing on Lexan II

      Seems to be an overprint issue. Trying to resolve. I set it to Darker, it was slightly better, but I can hear the white, like its making a sticker sound Its weird. So I used to be able to print in 300dpi. I can print ANY colour at 300dpi, but but if I try to print the white at 300dpi, it makes loud noises and sometimes while rip or wreck the foil so I need to stop it. Im not sure what make white so different.

    • @TheSignGuy
      @TheSignGuy  Před 4 měsíci

      @spAZZZ82 maybe it the caddy?? Has to be something in the foil or caddy if it's only on that color, I would assume...

    • @spAZZZ82
      @spAZZZ82 Před 4 měsíci

      @@TheSignGuy I have switched white foils to, it just when I do the overprint. Like if I have White print IN my design, no issues. Once it does the final Overprint (which is last) because I print on lexan so the white is last. It just sucks. The GerberEdgeFX printer is 10x worse. It just sits under the counter collecting dust. We tried to fix it before with customer service and they could not find a solution. So been using the Gerber Edge2 which up until this point has been a beast, lol. Also what do you mean by Caddy? See we aren't a printing company like you. We just have the machine because we make remote systems for Trucks, we just happen to print out our own decals that go on the remotes, which is basically labels that says what each button does. So I do not know a whole lot about fixing printers.
