Sill Logs for the new LOG CABIN | The MOUNTAINS are Calling!

- After spending three weeks on the road exploring Canada, I return to the off grid wilderness homestead eager to make progress on my new log home. I cut a 24 foot eastern larch log in half to make two sill logs, which I lifted into place with cables (next video). In the second half of the video, I show highlights of our trip, including amazing encounters with grizzly and black bears, elk bulls fighting, deer, bighorn sheep and more.

Hi Shawn,
I've been in those mountains and other areas a number of times and you were totally in Alberta. The badlands I've actually gone digging for fossils in. And Been in Emerald Lake, which I believe was one of the shots you showed, it sure looked like it. The Big Chief, I could never mistake, I worked on a film that Sylvester Stallone filmed there called Cliffhanger. Uhhhh man I miss the mountains. That's one thing that no other place in Canada can compete with is the Rocky Mountains in BC and Alberta. The absolute wilderness is incredible!
It's great to see you step away for a vacation and relax! You deserve that. I hope Dervla went with you?

THIS is absolutely the most incredible footage I have ever seen, its almost unreal. It boggles my mind how you were even able to capture this lightning in a bottle. If a person has not even seen wildlife like this up close they would surely believe this to be fake or taken from a studio with tamed animals. The backdrop of Banff proves to me though that this is in fact 100% raw and wild. Absolutely amazing.

How lucky we are to have such an absolutely wonderful planet. May man awaken his consciousness of the lethargy that prevents him from realizing this treasure that gave birth to all generations and has given us everything and appreciates it as it deserves. It is about our common home, the only one we have for ourselves and the generations to come. Something so sublime deserves our respect and effort to preserve it. It is our opportunity to give back to Earth all that it has given us.
Wow!!! I’m lost for words. The last half of this video is just amazing. The footage is better then any National Geographic I’ve ever watched. You and your wife did an awesome job.

Some say Shawn should have his own show. The magic is here on YT. Regularly a viewer this diary is like taking a serenity pill. But not in the sense of falling tranquil. Shawn has re-kindled the importance of quiet achievement and determination, no matter the enormity of the task. Thanks for the beautiful scenic, just like the Northern Scandinavian. Canada is a beautiful country with many beautiful peoples - the sweet beauty of simplicity and kindness.
Somebody has a new camera/lens! Wildlife that I've never seen so clearly and shot with such empathy. This is Professional (yes, capital P) level shooting. And so sympathetic both in the soundtrack and the video. I feel privileged to be able to share in this. If this is Canada in the wild, I love it.
It's enough to make you cut the TV cable and just watch Shawn's videos. I agree, totally pro level videography and skipping the vocals to just let the scenery unfold telling the story.

Having spent my nearly 45 years growing up and living in the Appalachian Mountains of Middle Tennessee, I can say without a doubt that you are resurrecting a lost art in these videos. EDIT: Cali is so sweet and patient! I love how you randomly throw her toy, and she runs off after it, retrieves it, and waits patiently to present it! My wife and I are 'dog people' as well. We have four small, indoor dogs, and the oldest is a nearly 16 year old miniature Dachshund. They are family for life. EDIT EDIT: okay, I'm sorry, I don't usually "double edit", but I'm a trees and mountains guy, having spent my entire life in the Appalachians, but you, sir, are in God's Country (TM), and I can't imagine a more beautiful place on this third rock from the sun. Kudos to you and yours!
Today`s count of envy people on a mission; 205.. Almost always the same count. I have to wonder if there is a secret club? Todays count of supportive people that is inspired, love the scenery and what is accomplished by this man; 15 000. I too live in calgary, happy to have the Rockies,the wildlife, the winter sports, all the natural lakes, several provincial and federal parks in My backyard..I still love it all!
I don't know what to say to adequately express the joy and peace in this video. You have captured the beauty of landscape and wildlife. Honestly, a few shots of whisky, a cigar, and a couple of f-bombs would help your boy grow up properly. You can't shelter him forever, pops.

I grew up in Newfoundland, lived over 40 years in Alberta and now spend my winters on Vancouver Island. I have driven coast to coast in Canada many times but I’m always drawn to the mountains. They are so majestic, the water so clear and such a beautiful colour, and the smell of the forests can’t be beat.
I must say I’ve been watching you each week from when I was diagnosed with cancer, 4 and a half years later iam still watching, I often wonder where you get the strength from , my god you never take a break , but it’s lovely to watch a man build his future with such determination and reliance , please do keep it up , and I’ll keep watching as long as I can 👏👍say hi to lovely Cali too

I just wanna say I love your channels and how much I appreciate the fact that when you started up the chainsaw you dropped the sound, so many other CZcamsrs don’t do that and it is killer in a migraine, and just annoying other times. Love all you do! :)

Having not visited this channel in months, I just happened to do it today only to see Callie still walking around with that orange toy in her mouth, eagerly awaiting the periodic (and completely unpredictable) moment that Shawn will reach down and throw it. She LIVES for that three minute thrill! As soon as I saw the orange toy, I knew all was well in Shawn & Callie's world.
Love how Cali got a special grooming to join you both for your 25th, probably from your wife, what a beautiful team you two are with your combined cinematic and other earthy skills. Most spectacular vid I’ve ever seen of Alberta. Sadly I never got that far away from Calgary. Abundant blessings and best always to you and yours. This is my favorite channel to have on while working from home. The sounds are great. Sawing, pounding, sizzling, birds, crunching leaves/snow, and on and on. Sometimes I'll even glance at the screen to check the progress on a project. Great stuff!
