    Great video, made simple.
    I've made some notes whilst watching this:
    Step 1) Turn Water Supply off
    Step 2) Disconnect Old Hose
    Step 3) Connect one end of the COLD WATER HOSE onto the water supply and feed it through to the dishwasher
    Step 4) Turn the water back on and check for leaks
    Step 5) Pull through the DRAIN hose from the dishwasher through the same hole as the COLD WATER HOSE, under the sink
    Step 6) Place the Dishwasher in place
    Step 7) Pull the remaining excess of the DRAIN HOSE under the sink and attach it to the DRAIN SPIGETT, use a jubilee clip
    Step 8) Reposition the height of the drain hose to prevent sink ester from entering the dishwasher
    Tools Required:
    1) Grips
    2) Screwdriver
    3) Jubilee Clip

    I wish my sink cabinet was that tidy but sadly it isn't. However, I can still make it work and I now know what I need to do... Get a double spigot. I was going to cut the drain pipe at the bottom however, I'll of course run the risk of the water not draining efficiently. So thank you.

  • @beckyharwell7078

    The drain hose needs to be either passed through a second hole as high as you can under the counter or looped and supported as high as you can under the counter. The idea is if the sink drain ever backed up instead of dumping into your dishwasher it would back up into your sink until it reached the height of your loop and then would dump into your dishwasher.
    To prevent this completely you would need an air gap that would fit where a traditional sprayer goes.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  Před 6 lety

      Hi, Becky, the video shows the most common way a dishwasher is installed so most people will be able to identify with this installation as most will not have a second hole in the units or an air break.Thank you for your comment and your input.

    • @Justicejamesb
      @Justicejamesb Před 6 lety +1

      Yes ma'am, that's the correct way to do it. The loop on the drain hose has to be at least 32" above the floor, or use an Air Gap and not have any problems, though, if you have a dishwasher with a garbage disposal in it, you can't use the Air Gap method, (all it will do is plug from the particles coming from the dishwasher).

      Dishwashers don't come with a garbage disposal. It is a marketing gimmick. It is simply a flimsy macerator that helps break down very soft foods. It's awful marketing because it encourages customers to put dirtier dishes and larger chunks of food in assuming the machine will take care of it.

    • @Mike-hw5jp
      @Mike-hw5jp Před 5 lety

      *shows the wrong way to install a drain line* "If you get a problem, raise it" Can you seriously go to school or read a manual before making videos misleading people? You should have a drain loop immediately coming out of the dishwasher at LEAST 30" high and leading down to your connection. 90% of people installing it your way will have an issue i guarantee it, whether that is an awful smell or poor cleaning or both. Take this video down because it's embarrassing.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi marinrezaie, most modern machines only fill with cold water now and heat from the machine, if you connect to the hot you can cause issues if the water is hotter than the program temperature it may not work.

    Great vid, helped me to find the reason why my washer was flooding. I didn't have a dishwasher in before and the sneaky drain connection was blocked from the inside. Now I'm thinking of the best way to unblock. Probably will drill through the plastic. is this a good idea??

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi Mathew, many modern kitchens have the type of plumbing under the sink that you can add as shown at 1:57 . If as suggested you need to open the end of an unused spigot you can cut it off using either a small saw or a strong sharp knife (take care with craft knifes as they can break and cause injury). Just remember if you remove the dishwasher hose you will need to block the spigot or sink water may run into the cupboard below.

    • @matthewlemon9282
      @matthewlemon9282 Před 7 lety

      Yeah I went with the lazy approach and just drilled through the base of the spiggot thing. I did a bit of a crappy job (approx half of the max bore). Just finished my second cycle all good with no leaks :) Cheers for the vid tho it pointed me in the right direction to find the cause of the previous flood. Keep up the good work.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  Před 5 lety

      Hi li Ly, the dual tap is called a Y piece, the white bottle has nothing to do with the installation but it is a water filter, the connection to the drainage would have to be cut to size.

    • @eSpares

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  Před 9 lety +2

      Hi Darren, well observed. Most Dishwashers should always be connected to the cold feed as they have heaters for the wash cycle and need cold for the rinse.
      The reason it appears to be a hot tap is simple.
      When I installed my kitchen I had a red washing machine tap in my plumbing bits so used that rather than running out to replace it (you can see the other half of the supply is going off through a water filter to supply my fridge).
      I hope this clears this up. :-)

      This is an installation in the UK. Not the USA.
      In the UK the dishwashers connect to cold water pipes and heat the water up themselves, this is due to how British homes are plumbed.

  • @ramramboo
    @ramramboo Před 8 lety

    Hi, I want to install a dishwasher, but only have room for it on the other side of the kitchen far away from the sink. There is a spare cold water supply there (caped off at the moment) and an electric supply, my only concern is the waste/drainage. Will I be able to just run the waste pipe connected to other lengths of pipe under/behind two existing units and behind the cooker (that worries me due to heat from the oven?) and then through a hole in the kitchen wall to the outside and then run a length of pipe directly to the outside drain (but I'll have to run the pipe under the back kitchen door under the door frame in order to get to the drain)? I'm also concerned about the waste/drainage not being at a steep enough level.
    Do you think it will be OK?

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  Před 8 lety

      +ram ramboo Not a straight forward question to answer there. The key things to consider are:
      1. The water flows through a longer pipe slower so it would be better if the pipe is larger than the drain hose.
      2. There should be an 'air break' in the hose and it should be set higher than the machines water level or the water can either run out or syphon away.
      3. if the hose is being fitted into an open 'hockey stick' pipe on the wall, if there is not sufficient fall in the pipe water may 'back up' and overflow the pipe during emptying. This video shows connecting to a sink drain connection. Is it not possible to connect to a nearer drain pipe?.

    • @ramramboo
      @ramramboo Před 8 lety

      +eSpares No it isn't possible, it's a galley kitchen with the fridge, washing machine, unit and sink unit on one side, no more room for anything else, so unless I build an extension are you saying I can't do it?

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  Před 8 lety

      +ram ramboo As i tried to explain we cannot tell whether all appliances connected in the manner you describe will work correctly and do not have specific listings on hose lengths and drain pipe angles. We have tried to suggest there may be problems but you may find your dishwasher works perfectly. If you already own the dishwasher I would suggest you set up a temporary test before drilling holes and moving cabinets to see if any of the problems I have warned about show on your installation. Generally manufacturers state the drain hose should be fitted into an open ended pipe of an approved type for washing machines like the one shown here:

      At 2:45 we point out the importance of lifting the hose above the pipe to prevent water running back into the machine, on some models there will be a flap valve on the pump that can prevent this.

      I was thinking that too. Our washing machine was leaving water in the bottom of the machine which was also smelly. My wife was about to call someone out (expensive) but I had a look and lifted the hose so that the waste from the sink didn’t go into the washing machine. We had the hoses go through the side of the cabinet rather than up through the bottom of the cabinet.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  Před 7 lety +1

      Connecting the drain hose in this way is 'not approved' by most manufacturers as water can back fill from the sink and when on the rinse cycle the machine can continue to siphon out after the pump has stopped. However often this can be done without problems as long as the hose is lifted as high as possible under the units before it connects to the pipework.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  Před 8 lety

      Hi Simon, the only way to do this is to re-position the trap. We do not think you will find plumbing fittings to significantly move the outlet connector but check with DIY. stores or Plumber merchants. The only other ways will usually involve either replacing the worktop and cutting the sink in a different position offset to one side. Or it may be possible to but a different sink where the outlets are in a n offset position.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  Před 7 lety +5

      Some machines in the US have two connections and they can be connected to the hot supply,, but If a dish washer has only one water inlet connection it should be connected to the cold water as it will have its own water heater. If you connect it just to the hot it means it rinses with hot water and cannot cool the cavity to help dry the dishes.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  Před 8 lety +3

      +nolan scire Thanks for your comments. If your dishwasher only has one connection it should be connected to the COLD water supply. This is because it has its own heater that will heat only the water required for the cycle and not waste heat drawing water through the pipes that may not be hot by the time the machine is full. Also during the drying cycle the machine needs to cool the cavity to help the steam condense and help dry the load. We have mentioned in previous comments that it is important if your dishwasher outlet has not got a 'one way valve' that the hose must be above the connection to prevent the sink back filling the machine.

    • @bmanscire
      @bmanscire Před 8 lety

      Hi Mike. If your machine has two hose input connections it is likely to need both connected. European machines almost all have only cold water inputs and heat only the water they need inside the machine. Many (if not most) machines in the America's have both hot and cold fill and may not have a heater.
