  • Today we’re making quick and easy hardware bins and taking full advantage of the French cleat system. These are a great way to use up 1/2 inch scrap plywood in the shop and maximize your shop organization. I have several of these and use them almost daily to efficiently move hardware around the shop and optimize my work flow.

    Talk bout quick n easy. I like the simplicity, no fancy tools, no awful music, loud machines, not having ur mug on the camera 80% of the video, skipping over important parts of the making process, not having other peeps on the video or pets, talking bout urself for the first 2 min, 3 min well edited video, done! 👍

    I see myself making these. I see myself hanging these on my work bench. I see myself smiling. I see myself walking around my bench and knocking it all to the floor and cussing for 15 minutes while I pick up all my screws.

    Something that would go well with this is a rolling cart with room for tools and french cleats where you can grab bins with the fasteners and other parts you want, hang them on the cart, and wheel it to where you are working.

    Nice build, what i do to get small or sometimes sharp items from the bottom of the smaller chubby holes is to reach in with a pair of needle nose pliers, MUCH easier,faster and lest aggravating for small or deep containers . So keep a pair within easy reach of your storage bins.

    I tried open containers and I hate the dust collecting in there. Now I just keep them in the original box and put them all on shelves that are the same depth as the box size

      @SirJer Před 4 lety +1

    What is the spacing and dimensions of your French cleats on the wall? Would you change it at all? I'm considering doing an entire wall of them in my shop, but can't make a decision.

    • @InspireWoodcraft
      @InspireWoodcraft  Před 5 lety +3

      I believe my cleats are 2-1/2” tall and are spaced pretty close to that. I haven’t really found anything I would change about what I’ve done so far. I think the biggest thing is to make a bunch at one time, even if you don’t install them all right away. At least then you have them down the road and you can space them farther apart if you want now, and fill in the gaps later if you feel the need. Inevitably there will be some sections that get covered up or unused, but that will change when you decide to relocate some things.

    What did you spray on the back before gluing the final piece?

    • @InspireWoodcraft
      @InspireWoodcraft  Před 5 lety

      I didn't rewatch the video, but I am going to say it was probably CA glue (superglue) accelerator. I use it SO MUCH in the shop! I'll be doing a video very soon about that because a lot of people have asked about that as well in other videos.

  • @milpedroso
    @milpedroso Před 5 lety +1

    What is that spray at 2.02" ? Thanks.

    • @InspireWoodcraft
      @InspireWoodcraft  Před 5 lety +1

      It's a CA glue accelerant. It speeds up the cure time of "superglue" and works really well for setting parts together. There's a link in the description that should take you to Starbond's website and you can check it out!

    • @InspireWoodcraft
      @InspireWoodcraft  Před 5 lety

      Hey thanks for the sub! I’m really glad you asked this. I would like to incorporate the actual making of videos into this channel at some point. I use Adobe Premiere Pro, and I absolutely love it. If you look through my videos in order, previous to the “transitions” video I was using iMovie because it was free and I was completely uneducated with video editing. I maxed out its capacity to the point that it seized up on me and I dove into Premiere. The learning curve was not as bad as I though although obviously it is on a whole other level compared to iMovie. What I like the most is how much support there is for it. Whenever I have any question, a quick CZcams or Google search brings up the answer and I keep working. It’s been perfect for me.
