    Thanks for watching everyone and if you are interested in how I create depth in long fur like on spaniel ears, you can watch this video which shows my process...

      Hi ☺️ My brother is on vacation and found an art store with the Fabriano Artistico HP paper (640). Can you please tell me if it is the «grana fina» you use/the type (they have 4 types) I’ve looked true most of your videos and can’t find the type. I’m so sorry if it’s a stupid question 😅 Thank you so much in advance 🥰

      @@tMarie234 I list all of the supplies in the descriptions of the videos. I buy from Jacksons arts and they just list it as hotpress and the weight and I go for the bright white as there's a warm white too I think...but covered in paint, it probably doesn't matter anyway.

      @@TmHudsonArt Thank you SO much! I’ve already sent him the link from Jackson art and said I didn’t think it was the rough one,so he told just now(!!) they had looked at your stuff and decided to go for Grana Fina,xtra white! 🥹🙏 Thank you SO much for your help (and all your tutorials of course 🥹 I really hope you get to start a patreon,so we can support you there ☺️) Have a great weekend 😃

    Thank you, I have recently started my pet portrait journey. I find your videos always give me a few tips for different fur types. I actually like the short videos with voice over 'cause I don't think anyone needs to see all of the millions of individual brush strokes that go into a pet portrait! Thanks again!

      Some people actually request full real time vids but it means they can skip to and watch specific bits relevant to them...not always about watching it all in one go.

    The piece just comes alive after the eyes. 5% of the painting literally doing 95% of the work. Almost doesn't seem fair we work so hard to get that 5%, but that's life, isn't it? Beautiful work, as always.

      Well, I guess the dog does need more than just his eyes still lol...

    This is gorgeous - just like every single painting you create! I'm in the middle of painting my brother's beagle as a gift to him, and I swear I'm struggling with these shadow colors so badly. Every time I lay down the shadow color, which is a warm and VERY dark brown/orange color because he's in the sunshine, I talk myself into thinking it's too dark and I start all over again. I've been at this painting for SIX months! LOL - I'll never finish at this rate. I know I need to work on my color theory and tones, but I just want to finish this beagle and then figure it out later. (I know how bad that sounds, believe me. LOL)

    For some strange reason, this painting brought me to tears! I've never owned a spaniel, but watching you paint this beautiful dog struck a chord with me. I've recently switched from oils to acrylics; not going to lie, it's a bit of a challenge (could be the reason for the tears!) Watching and listening to your videos continues to give me 'hope'! Absolutely stunning work!

      Funnily enough, I have considered trying oils but would have to be water soluble ones....there's times when i think being able to blend easier would make things more simple lol...but the drying time of acrylic is an advantage where such blending is not required...

    Really gorgeous. The dog, the process and the painting.
    Could you do a short tutorial on how you lay down the very initial drawing. ( Grid, free-hand, [eeks] tracing! )

    • @TmHudsonArt
      @TmHudsonArt  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Grids take too long so don't do those anymore. I do both freehand and tracing if I have time constraints but I always do it on separate cheap paper and then transfer it onto the final piece so that part of the process would be the same however I got the outline. I guess i can do some freehanding sketch videos at some point...

    It's so lovely. Thank you. Did you use gesso on the paper? I was told I would need to gesso the paper first. Edit: Ok, I saw someone already asked that question and you responded. I 😊

    • @TmHudsonArt
      @TmHudsonArt  Před 5 měsíci

      Hi..I tried Gesso on a few paintings but it was just messing about and no real benefit. I stopped doing it. I can't recall if this was one of the ones I did it to but using the paper I use, I don't need it. I have paintings on paper that are 20 years old or more now and they are still fine. If it was oil, it may be different though....

    • @SnowS162
      @SnowS162 Před 5 měsíci

      Thank you for your response. I haven't tried painting yet but you gave me courage to try without gesso. I agree that gesso is so messy and hard to get it smooth.😊

  • @MG-vo7yn
    @MG-vo7yn Před rokem

    i don't know if i already asked you this..... do you do any of the matting or framing for your work? if yes, what is your process? another question: how many different paint colors do you have? when i did my watercolors, i tried to follow the method of the "masters", and i only bought the primary colors (red, blue, yellow). i had a warmer and a cooler for my red and my blue, but i only had one yellow. i mixed my own blacks and all other colors. i tried to do the same when i switched to acrylic, but it was a lot more difficult (time-consuming & wasteful as i struggled to match every color perfectly). so i have bought a few more colors in the acrylics. but i really don't know which colors to buy, lol.
    for my part, i feel like i have to work on the rest of the painting before i do the nose & eyes. for me, noses & eyes are the easiest (and most fun) part. so i want to get through a good part of the more challenging (for me) fur before i do the eyes. i think it makes me work harder on the fur, as i try to make it alive without the eyes. i don't know if that makes any sense, lol!
    another absolutely stunning painting. i feel like i could actually touch and know the texture of the fur on the right ear (as viewed). you perfectly captured the clumping texture. brilliant!!! and the eyes are absolutely incredible! everything is incredible!!

    • @TmHudsonArt
      @TmHudsonArt  Před rokem

      Ive never done it myself..used to have a framer unti, he retired but since it's all commissions, clients tend to sort that themselves.
      As for colours, I have more than the primaries and you really can't mix all the colours you want just from those. I always have yellow ochre, burnt umber etc...and a few different greens and blues. I also use plain old black lol...if I want to cool or warm it up, I add another colour like blue or red.

    Hiya again. Do you prime the Artistico papers with Gesso beforehand?

    • @TmHudsonArt
      @TmHudsonArt  Před 11 měsíci +1

      I did for a time but quit again as getting it dead smooth was too hard, it was messy, added extra time onto preparation and the paper copes with it fine without anyway…
