Allis Chalmers WD45 Rebuild Episode 1: Head Removal and Inspection

    It looks like this WD45 needs a rebuild. In this episode I'm removing the old D17 loader frame to get easier access to the engine, and removing the head to see what's going on inside. This is what happens when tractors get left outside without a cover on the muffler.

      I was thinking that too. The hood is really messed up but everything else looks good still

    Good luck with the manifold studs. If they are as rusty as the rest of it they will probably snap off

      Surprisingly, all but one came out without issue. The last one broke off flush in the head. I’ll try the welding a nut and washer trick to see if I can get it removed

      @@Tractor-Roy be careful with that. if the nut snaps off too that weld will make it hard to drill out

      I’ll have to go slow with it, that’s for sure. I don’t want to deal with broken bits or taps too

    Are you going to put the grill guard back on it?

      Probably not. I don’t have the loader for it and it just gets in the way. I think it looks better without too
