And a year later I’m back here to check how to change a cartridge! your explanation and overall review is really complete and it’s been my go to video for this printer, which by the way has been really good especially at this time! Hope you and your loved ones are healthy and safe. Laura
The correct way to fit the cartridges, and prevent excess ink spillage, is to follow Canon's own instructions. Firstly remove the tape from the breather hole, (this helps to reduce pressure in the cartridge), then flip over the cartridge so that the plastic clip is at the top and remove the plastic clip, then flip the cartridge back so the breather hole is at the top and immediately slot the cartridge in to its position in the printer. If you take the plastic clip off first, the cartridge is still under pressure and this is what forces the ink out of the bottom. By removing the tape from the top breather hole first, this equalisers the pressure in the cartridge so hardly any ink will escape when inserting the cartridge.
THANK YOU!!!!! So, so much for this video. I had a paper towel because of your suggestion and I'm so grateful you mentioned the ink might drip a bit. It did! Laura
Had I watched your excellent video before installing ink cartridges the first time on my new Canon printer I would have avoided dripping magenta ink on my new carpet. This leakage never occurred with my Epson printer and I am sorry I bought the slow to respond Canon. So now I have a lousy printer and permanently stained carpet. Other owners take heed and watch this video CAREFULLY.
We're sorry to hear about the trouble on our leaking ink cartridge. We will be happy to help to make this right. Please contact us through email, livechat or call us at 888-321-2552 for immediate assistance, we will certainly be here to assist you!
Some of ink cartridges are pressurized, and when you grasp with a bit pressure or opened this can cause the tank to leak. A paper towel can be used to cover the nozzles to prevent ink leakage.
If you want to print with black or color ink only, you can open the printer driver setup window. From the Page Setup tab, select Print Options. From the Print With: drop-down, select Color Only or Black Only. Hope this helps.
@@Ldproducts Thank you for your help. But there is no page set up tab or Print Options or any drop down box to pick from. That’s why I was asking. I have a nice huge apple desk computer and the Canon TS5020.
Just replaced my ink tanks and suddenly black and cyan won't print... I've deep cleaned it multiple times... what happened? It's been fine for 3 years until now :(
I agree! All it said in my manual was scan one of these bar codes. They couldn't be bothered to print the instructions right there. Not everyone has a smart phone, even in this day and age. This is a great, clear video. Thank you!
Hi Jordan, we're sorry for the confusion. This video is applicable for Canon TS5000 printer series. Hello! Some of Canon printers take photo black aside from the regular black ink cartridge. If you notice another slot for black ink cartridge on your printer, that means you will need 2 black ink cartridges. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please contact our customer service team directly here ld.ink/2DM8cOU
Hi Rebecca, thanks for reaching out to us! We offer a compatible version of the Canon TS5020 printer cartridges at a super low price and they come with a lifetime guarantee. You can find them on our site here: www.ldproducts.com/Canon/Ink-Cartridge/PIXMA/TS5020/10918-Printer.html Hope this helps and let us know if you have any additional questions!
Most of the time, the flashing red light indicates that you are running low on paper. If the paper is not running low, make sure that the roll is pushed all the way to the back of the printer.
No, you do not need to totally empty the cartridge before replacing it but we would recommend trying to print with the cartridge as much as possible so you get the most value out of it before switching to a new cartridge.
Hi Daniel, We apologize if your printer does not recognize the cartridges. Given what you described, it sounds like the chip on the cartridge may not be making a full connection with the printer. A hard reset usually does the trick. Please try: 1. Remove the ink cartridge 2. Turn the printer off 3. Unplug the power cord for 1-2 minutes 4. Clean the contact with a lint free cloth 5. Plug the printer back in 6. Turn the printer on and wait for a message prompting you to install the cartridge 7. Then install the cartridge(s) and try printing a test page. Should you need further assistance, feel free to contact us through email, livechat or call us at 888-321-2552, and any one of our representative would be more than happy to assist you.
I'm looking at getting One, but if it's like some other cheap printers that when One cartridge is empty, it doesn't let you print in B&W. Is it the same problem with this One?
We sincerely apologize to hear about the trouble! We would want to check this out. Please contact us through email, livechat or call us at 888-321-2552 for help. We'll be happy to help you!
Have you tried checking the printer setting and increasing the density? Sometimes light print can be remedied by simply changing the darkness setting in the printer.

Anyone knows if LD products available in Canada do they have retail stores.?
I find that if you grasp the cartridge by the short ends when undoing the tape there's a lot less likelihood that it will drip any ink
Some of ink cartridges are pressurized, and when you grasp with a bit pressure or opened this can cause the tank to leak. A paper towel can be used to cover the nozzles to prevent ink leakage.
