I asked my older brother who was in college during that time, why the Black Panthers didn't get involved in the fight between Forrest and Wesley. He said it was because it was 2 white guys over a white girl. It was kind of an unwritten code.
Robert Davidson Also, the BP probably didn't want to resort to violence. Killing a vet who was awarded the Medal of Honor would bring about extremely bad publicity as well as heat from law enforcement.
At the end, he apologizes, despite being in such a hostile environment with very armed men. It demonstrated Forrest's resolve, composure, and legitimacy as a battle hardened man. 🇺🇲
Eh, I think it had more to do with him not really understanding the gravity of the situation he was in - a white outsider in a Black Panther meeting. If he'd had any awareness of the social politics of the time, army training or not, he'd been more nervous. Even in the battle scenes he was kind of running around like a chicken with its head cut off - granted he demonstrated bravery by saving his friend, but he was far from an elite solider. Don't be a nice person, be a good person. A good man knows when to be nice and when to be a warrior. Forrest switched between a nice man and a warrior in this scene, based on the circumstances he was in. Nice should be a state of being or a circumstance, not a personality trait.
What I find truly sad is that if the black panthers knew what Forrest did for Bubba in his last moments and what they talked about and planned to do after the military. I think they would've respected him more and had seen him as a brother
that's a recurring theme throughout the movie though. Almost no one takes an interest in Forest's story or asking about his story because they're so busy telling their own stories. It's only when he's at the bus stop that he finds people willing to listen. I don't think it's an indictment on any one person, but on humanity as a whole.

Robert Davidson Also, the BP probably didn't want to resort to violence. Killing a vet who was awarded the Medal of Honor would bring about extremely bad publicity as well as heat from law enforcement.

1:06 i always loved the slow motion capture of Jenny’s hair swing and the storming towards Wesley. Beautiful shot.
Forrest is such an innocent character, whatever he goes through.
