This was actually really interesting to watch, coz my parents literally TAUGHT eachother their respective languages, _while dating._ They didn't work together or have to be around eachother at all. Somehow they just met at random, and knew they had chemistry immediately. Ultimately it _was_ cultural differences that did end their relationship though. Swedish women tend to be independent and self reliant, where Mexican men tend to lean very traditional conservative. They were basically destined to hit a wall. But to this day, it's obvious they still have a unique chemistry that wasn't just physical attraction. Though they'd definitely both deny it lol.

Language differences definitely has to do with why people are nicer in general. Language processing has such interesting connection to parts of the brain that controls cultural behaviors
I feel like the language barrier really just means that they are surrounded by another culture thats why they are so nice and respectful lol they know how to be kind to people that are different from them since they are used to a different culture/language in their home

That happened with my Grandma and Grandad. 🤷♀️ They married and we’re together for life. My Grandad was Polish (an airman) and my Grandma English. My Grandad couldn’t speak a word of English when he got here, but he learned and spoke English for the rest of his life, as he had very little contact with his Polish family after the war ( except for his Dad, who also came here to the U.K.) his Dad was never able to speak English, I don’t think, so Grandad had to interpret. To be fair though, looking at the pictures of my Grandad when he was young, I understand why my Grandma was willing to though the language barrier - he was very very handsome!
As someone trying to learn French in a new country I understand the pain of both sides trying to communicate in their own language and only comprehending hand movements and smiles lol

I was looking for this comment and wondering if I should say anything. More than annoying, I think its quite sad to see a pattern where in a lot of media Bangla-speaking people, both Bangladeshis and from West Bengal, have a representation of "we dont speak the language very well though" and this is ofc in Western media. It's clear he has a Dhaka accent but clearly isn't in practice of speaking it or worse is embarrassed to.
It's been a long ride with the Button series, it had its ups, it had its downs, it broke our hearts and made us laugh, but damn, this episode was simply the best for how polite and sweet the people were.
It's useful to remember that standards are different in every culture, and so are the people. Things that seem odd to you are not necessarily things that they are doing 'wrong'. This is useful for all of life
I would honestly recommend for people to go out on a date with someone of a different background. Like not searching out people by nationality, that would be weird, but definitely be open to it! It's such a unique and fun way to get to know a different culture even if you aren't looking for something serious.
