I heard a quote about Meltzer actually critiquing Snoops peoples elbow... like really guy... if anything that was the most in gimmick peoples elbow of all time. I wouldn't expect Snoop to do it any other way.... not to mention he completely saved the segment.
Anytime I read "Snoop saved the segment" I shake my head. Not because I disagree, I just can't believe it even happened

We should all care about Dave Meltzer's ratings. Conrad Thompson trusts these ratings. If it's good enough for Conrad, it's good enough for the rest of us.
The more I think about the Shane match the more it makes me laugh, it might be one of the funniest WM moments of all time. Snoop asking "you good, cuz?" and Shane yelling "I'M FUCKED" twice makes me literally laugh out loud every time I think about it.
I find it funny how "I'M FUCKED!" is wrestling shorthand for a leg injury now. Both Corny and Kevin Nash had the exact same reaction.

Roman vs Cody was literally on route to being one of the best WM main events ever. Right up there with Taker vs Shawn at 26. And they just couldn't let the fans have a moment. Imagine if Thanos after Infinity War, snapped his fingers and that was it, was literally the end of Marvel.

Aww Jim, Snoop is a 51 year old non-wrestler who ended up in a situation that was totally unexpected. It was more realistic looking than the Sami Zayn/Johnny Knoxville match last year! Snoop did the best he could in the moment. 😂😂😂
Gunther vs Brock Lesnar if Brock is motivated would be an all time classic.
I don't trust Lesnar anymore to put on a banger. Quite clear he doesn't care anymore and he doesn't have good matches against big dudes

The Meltzer curve is you add one star to his WWE ratings and take away one star, some times two, from his AEW ratings.

Something like this, but then you have to factor in parenthesis if they're his friends, enemies or if they came from 2000s PWG. Then the equation is even more accurate.

I really thought Shane was gonna win, but Father Time's interference really gave Gravity a screwed finish. Really incredible match.
At the very least, he didn't crash through the wall or trip running to ring and slide underneath the ring.

I was amazed at how many matches Jim and Meltzer weren't that far apart on. I think when it comes to big WWE events, Dave must, in his mind at least, grade on a curve as compared to how he rates AEW and Japanese matches.
I think it may have something to do with the fact the Usos aren't busting out the 1-dave anytime soon
Dave just grades on a curve for aew compared to WWE. Some matches they had in aew should not be rated high due to all the spot heavy waits yet they still got 5 stars.

Meltzer really likes the hard-hitting, beat-the-piss-out-of-each-other style of match, so it makes sense that he'd give the IC title match 5 stars. I actually have similar tastes, so I agree with his rating there, but I don't think it would be a universal rating depending on tastes.
Yet he loves Aew which hasn't had more than five in 4 years.
I have similar tastes also, stiff brutal and physical matchups is what I love the most.

Perfect match for me needs to have a good build, believable in ring story telling, great in ring performance, no botches, a few spots, and an emotional finish.... BTW, I have never seen a perfect match
I did it for night one but here is night twos rating using Dave's 7 star scale he uses for Japanese promotions and AEW. So here is the WWE being fair.
Brock vs Omos - 5 stars
The woman's tag 4 3/4 stars
The IC three way - 7 stars
Bianca vs Asuka 4 1/2 stars
Edge vs Balor 6 stars
Cody vs Roman - 6 1/2 stars (with a negative 5 ending)

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Cody losing at Wrestlemania happened simultaneously as Vince returned to creative. Vince couldn’t help but screw the fans over YET AGAIN.
I'll never understand why so much significance is given to Meltzer's ratings. It's literally just some dude's subjective opinion.
When I first started participating in online wrestling discussions I thought they meant something until a few years passed and I realized that they don’t actually mean anything
Heck, I don't understand why people take either him or his won awards seriously. After looking at which wrestlers and companies won the 2022 WON awards, I lost my brain cells.😂
At the height and peak of pro wrestling's popularity (Monday night wars) very few people gave a shit. His ratings got more and more significant as pro wrestling got less and less popular and watched and everyone got a internet presence and a podcast. I never heard him him brought up much in the 90s to early 2000s. Only after pro wrestling got less popular and youtube and podcasts became more popular did I hear him talked about.

@@MarsofAritia to allow the guy to get a breather and let the other 2 fight in the ring. These aren’t small guys, these are guys over 6”3 240+ so one of them disappearing made sense to me. The camera never exposed the missing guy either in that match

- Lesnar-Omos could've gone a bit lower, yeah. It was fun, it made Omos look good (before he got Bork Smashed) and nothing was botched, but you can only do so much with Omos.
- Women's 4-way... could've gone even lower. This made even less sense than the men's showcase, and had less spots.
- Gunther vs Sheamus vs Drew... yeah. You could say it was a 5-star match in spite of being a triple-threat, but they did manage to use the dynamic to their advantage, using the Sheamus vs Drew feud for the emotional heat, and Gunther for the excellence of execution.
- Asuka vs Bianca was alright. I actually liked it, but the lack of a story held it back heat-wise.
- Shane vs Miz got no rating.
- Snoop vs Miz was a joke. Just give it a DUD and be grateful that there were no negative stars.
- The main event... Jim said it. 5-star match, with a finish that took away all the heat (and about half a star's worth of rating).
Omos needs to stop screaming after every basic move he does.

Leave it to Jim to illustrate in such a plain and vivid way what's like to have a fantastic match with an awful finish.
most of these ratings, i don't have a problem with for night 2. i do think the snoop/shane/miz segment was a DUD rating as a match just because it got screwed up...as sheer entertainment because it was real in a way and completely unintentional with everything going wrong and right at the same time, it was a lot of fun just because you get to laugh at the people you want to laugh at for being stupid. so pure entertainment/comedy gold value, it's 5* as per Brian. maybe the the three way with Gunther was a bit high for me. people liked it in the audience, the right person went over, the stiffness/realism for a modern environment, etc. i just personally couldn't get it into because of the build/structure of it. it still felt off for me no matter what and it obviously can be attributed to it being a 3 way.
the main event up right up to the "sports entertainment" stuff was 5* with the build, drama, etc. then everything after just killed what was left. overdone, people are tired of Reigns even though he is The Man (sorry Becky) right now, where the story needed to go, etc. all i know is that if i spent a horrid amount of money for a WM39 ticket in this current economic environment and i was there to see Cody win, i would never watch another WWE show ever again afterwards. even if there were previous plans for Cody, this is where you needed to cancel those plans and make new ones because of the momentum he was building and all the expectations that were being created that needed to be fulfilled in that moment. why give someone a "finish the story" catchphrase and just pull the carpet away? why sell t-shirts, etc. with something like that and have it rendered absolutely meaningless? it's friggin' Wrestlemania. Its not like Roman couldn't eventually win the title back. but it's just a situation where you have all the right variables lined up and because of previous plans and/or "we need to defy expectations" where you can ultimately just kill a match, the fans, a future star and a promotion whether it was Hunter, Vince, the Endeavor deal, etc.
It's funny how people ignore stuff when it doesn't fit their agenda. If people are tired of Reigns, then how come half the stadium held up the☝️after he pinned Cody? There was a large sector of fans that wanted Cody to win, but no one except some little kids are devastated that Roman retained. They've pretty much guaranteed that Cody will be walking into Mania next year as champ.

Uncle Dave is never going to give Roman a 5-star match, he just isn't. Plus it didn't have any Tumblesaults or Omega. GUNTHER/Sheamus/Drew was a 5-star match and the best thing during the entire Weekend, which is why Dave had to rank some random New Japan match no one watched higher. Asuka carried the match and should have won no matter the rating, if they had built the match up properly it could have been as good as Rhea/Charlotte. Counting Miz/Snoop Dogg as a serious match is just Dave trying too hard. Edge and Balor was better than anything on Dynamite that week.
Really? that women's tag got higher than Theory and Cena? Even Cena's strikes with another 10 years ring rust will look better than most of anything done by Shotzi period.
