Car fires are generally the last thing on a motorist's mind when they see 'steam' coming from under the hood. My first thought would be radiator issues or hoses blown out. That being said, and I cannot say from experience because I have never experienced one, I would guess that the smell would be obviously a fire vs. coolant smell (several incidents of this over my 40 years of driving--I KNOW coolant smell, lol) , so it would be wise to quickly look under the car where more 'steam' is coming from to see if there is a fire as was obvious from the angle we saw this incident from. Then, yes, do NOT open the hood feeding the fire with oxygen.
I was more upset at the firefighters. They had the hose out and changed, and it appears that they are still putting on their gear. In my department and most others, you are supposed to be fully geared up before getting in the truck, and while riding to the scene, you are supposed to put on and ready your air pack.
1:14 (blown engine?) and 5:43 (blown front tire?). So many times the narrative explains the obvious, sometimes to unnecessary detail. Then we get clips like this that could definitely use a little explanation.
Can someone explain something to me? Why is it that in virtually every crash involving a semitruck that their hoods flip open? Shouldn't they be more secure than that?
There is a latch (most always a heavy rubber strap) on both sides of the hood. Next time you walk past a semi in a parking lot take a look, they're easy to see. If it pops open in a low speed crash it's because the driver forgot to latch them, but they will often fail in a high speed crash even if they are latched.
Lots of mechanical issues this time. #4 looks like a turbo charger failing, #15 is a steer tire blowout with a very good stop, #24 is what happens when a transmission is breaking and you just keep driving through the grinding noises.
6:41 The Honda minivan (center lane) is at fault. Their mistake caused the overcorrection, and even if they would have gotten away unscathed, they would have been at fault due to a miss-and-run given the dash cam video.
6:41 this is every highway in new england btw. Everyone loves to bunch the hell up and use whatever lane they want. Don't expect anyone to wait a moment to think either, they're merging now. see: featured odyssey, and all the debris in the median
While we can see fire underneath, the driver might have though it was something else. If, for example, that car always smokes a bit from an oil leak, and it suddenly let loose like this, the driver might have thought he lost a radiator hose, despite smelling some smoke.
#6 -- Motorcycle reving may have been his equivalent of a horn, but louder. Expressing displeasure with the other car's actions. #11 -- Bit of Karma there. #15 -- Bit of luck there, keeping the wheels on the ground. #16 -- People trying to win Darwin Awards. #18 -- Primary fault is the minivan that was trying to change lanes without making sure the space was clear. (That driver, and our cammer, both get F- ratings for following way too close on the freeway.) #19 -- Medical issue, likely. Or DUI possibly. Those who were inattentive drivers tend to start paying attention (and trying to control their vehicle) after the first hit.
2:10 The revving is because the exhaust is lauder then the horn. Motorcycle horns suck. 6:54 The van is at fault for not checking their blind spot, but the Kia Driver overreated way too much
We have to rev engine on motorcycle to let somebody know how much we are unhappy with their stupidity. On most motorcycles ( especially sport bikes) horn button is very little and placed right next to turn signals switch which makes it pretty uncomfortable to use horn when you wear gloves if you’re not looking specifically at the right button. And also in dangerous situations we have to hold clutch with left hand, exactly on the grip where the horn is and this makes using horn at same time even more difficult. Revving is just so much easier to do without distracting yourself from the road and it is much louder. So most bikers are using revving instead of horn.
@dwalmop2 yeah your hand is already operating the throttle, whereas you have to reach for the horn. Granted it's only quicker by (probably) less than a second, but still quicker.
#18 That's not a safe lane change, so they are at fault. Once a car is hit anything can happen. That's why you want to avoid being a crash. Could the other driver have maintained control? Maybe, maybe not.
@2:16 - 'blipping' the throttle like is something high reving sport bikes will do to warn a vehicle they're about to hit the biker. The horns typically are shit, and it's much faster to do this than try and press the horn button. If a cruiser has louder pipes than stock, they'll typically do this too. I installed air horns on my rides and it was fun to watch drivers wake up. 😂
revving the motorcycle is the way the cyclist alerts the bad driver he is almost hitting him, most people will ear the motor revving, before they hear the horn
For 20, its red for cammer. Which indicates green for sedan. And solid green for red suv. Which suggests unsafe left turn, not protected, for the red suv. Which suggests fault to red suv. Most of these are obvious...
I was more upset at the firefighters. They had the hose out and changed, and it appears that they are still putting on their gear. In my department and most others, you are supposed to be fully geared up before getting in the truck, and while riding to the scene, you are supposed to put on and ready your air pack.
6:34 (Clip #18) Honda/van driver is at fault bc they did an unsafe/improper lane change. However, for the Kia driver, I don’t think they overcorrected really but more so they lost traction/control of the vehicle as they briefly hit the dirt area on the left side of the road. (Agree tho that the Honda driver got a dose of karma being hit by the Kia). Still an unfortunate accident.

#18 -- Primary fault is the minivan that was trying to change lanes without making sure the space was clear. (That driver, and our cammer, both get F- ratings for following way too close on the freeway.)
#19 -- Medical issue, likely. Or DUI possibly. Those who were inattentive drivers tend to start paying attention (and trying to control their vehicle) after the first hit.
I think bikers rev the engine in lieu of using the horn, because revving the engine is louder.
6:33 that was the slowest turn ever
2:13 it is basically the same thing a blowing a horn since the horn isn't usually very load.
9:13 OOoooohhhhhhhhhhhh is that what happened??????
2:10 The revving is because the exhaust is lauder then the horn. Motorcycle horns suck.
6:54 The van is at fault for not checking their blind spot, but the Kia Driver overreated way too much
I bet the driver was startled… but that’s not “fault “
Motorcycles rev because it’s louder than their horn
#19 - Medical Emergency?
1:23 - Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
2:05 the bike revved because the car that hit you cut them up in their lane
#17 Vehicle on the left "stopped" at the red light, crept forward well over the line and pedestrian crossing while it was still red.
...which is exactly what you're supposed to do if you can't see whether there's any oncoming traffic.
2:15 revving is quicker and louder than hitting the horn
🤣 💩 🤡
Quicker? 🤡🤡🤡🤡
8;21 Fire extinguishers are relatively cheap compared to replacing your car. I guess some lessons can be taught and others have to be learned,
3:56 That didn't go well!
Carma 😂
2:16 louder then a horn.
So, when submitting videos, is it customary or required that I fail miserably at writing the description in proper American English?
revving the motorcycle is the way the cyclist alerts the bad driver he is almost hitting him, most people will ear the motor revving, before they hear the horn
0:13 they do NOTHING unless there is an at fault collision. You should have taken the jackpot law suit.
8:24 do all engine fires look like the car is belching lava? Did this thing have a Mr. Fusion in it or what?
For 20, its red for cammer. Which indicates green for sedan. And solid green for red suv. Which suggests unsafe left turn, not protected, for the red suv. Which suggests fault to red suv.
Most of these are obvious...
How come people don't know the difference between BRAKE and BREAK??
Common Core.
Dr. Jill Biden school of grammar.
6:13 Why do the hoods come up so easily?
8:40 I am not a mechanic but i think the engine might be overheating just a bit..
#20 7:25 - Who's fault is it? It's pretty obvious. The red SUV that was making a left is at fault. Failure to yeild against traffic.
3:48 ah sweet karma
6:40 THAT is why you put cameras on your house? to catch random cars going through your fence? lol
New driveway goal achieved.
I don't mean to insult anyone, but you'd think that if he has money for cameras, he could afford to clean and mow his yard.
Meanwhile, they could have possibly shaved the car, but no, they just rather let it burn.
It was fully involved when the fire department got there, wasn't much of anything left to save.
I was more upset at the firefighters. They had the hose out and changed, and it appears that they are still putting on their gear. In my department and most others, you are supposed to be fully geared up before getting in the truck, and while riding to the scene, you are supposed to put on and ready your air pack.
Would it burn slower if it's shaved?
@@pazuzu7119 Have you seen how fast hair burns? 🤣
@@mikesmith-po8nd *engulfed. It was involved from the first spark.
6:25 I thought there was a huge snake in the middle of the yard. It was just some net!
"I would have saw him"
I "seen" that too 😂
Everybody knows it should have said "sawn him".
Clip #11-😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
6:34 (Clip #18) Honda/van driver is at fault bc they did an unsafe/improper lane change. However, for the Kia driver, I don’t think they overcorrected really but more so they lost traction/control of the vehicle as they briefly hit the dirt area on the left side of the road. (Agree tho that the Honda driver got a dose of karma being hit by the Kia). Still an unfortunate accident.
