Legendary Texas BBQ | Unlimited Feast at The Salt Lick BBQ

- After a failed attempt to try some authentic Texas BBQ at the Pit Room the other night, I was not going to give up. Also, a big thank you to everyone who suggested great places to try and BBQ places that one simply must visit. And I recall David Sriracha posted a video about a wondering BBQ experience that I simply must try ... and that took me on a journey outside of Houston all the way past Auston to Driftwood, Texas.
After a bit of a drive, I arrived at the impressive grounds of The Salt Lick BBQ. Not only can I smell the smokey goodness in the air, upon a little exploring, I was able to find their winery along with their picnic grounds where you can feast on their BBQ and enjoy a drink or two BYOB style. And if you did not bring any beverages, the winery has you covered.
With all going on, I almost forgot one important fact; it's an unlimited - All You Can Eat Texas BBQ! And as good as the food and drinks were, it was the people you meet that made the experience exceptional; from the hosts and the servers to the families and fellow patrons there, all made this great BBQ feast an exceptional one!
I still can't get over the price of $32 for the tender smokey brisket and luscious pork ribs...what an incredible deal! Once again, things are simply bigger in Texas!

Tim is just such a nice person. I love that he includes his mom from time to time. Tim is like a good friend to everyone.
And he gives thanks to kitchen and buffet staff for their good service.
Tim, seriously you have to be the most Canadian person I've ever seen, great episode, keep up the good work!
The reason you meet so many nice people is because of your demeanor you attract nice folks, check on your computer is Hard 8 BBQ I have been to the one in Stephenville location 2/half hour drive from where you are but they have other locations
Thank you for the great suggestion! I'm just checking out hard 8 barbecue and see that they have 2-in thick pork chops and prime rib as well! Keeping a list of all the great suggestions. Thank you again 😋

💯
Tim is literally the nicest man on this planet
Tim, you gotta be the most positive and down to earth person. All the food in Texas looks amazing. I need to make a trip soon!
Oh, the people there were amazing! Texas has got to be one of my favorite places to visit.. hope you get a chance to visit too
I've been here 20+ times. Their brisket is just ok, probably slightly above average. Their pork ribs, sausage and BBQ sauce are all very good to excellent.
Tim,came across your channel just this week.I can't stop watching, keep up the good work and stay safe, you are so kind to everyone.
When it comes to food review, my man Tim is simply the best!!! 👍🤗👏
Thank you doesn't seem enough to say. You are a gem!!!
Thank you again for your kind comment 🙂
Positivity attracts positivity are a gem Tim glad u enjoyed your meal!!!!
It was quite a wonderful environment.. lots of good food and good people 😃
Yes, definitely the humidity making your shirt tight! Thanks for the vicarious thrill of all that delicious looking BBQ! My AYCE days are long since over and I get tummy ache full just seeing the quantity of food, but it's still fun to watch.
Your video is excellent! A must in the world! Browsing your video is like going back to school again! Let me benefit for life! thank you for your sharing! I wish you health and happiness every day!
I love watching how kind and friendly you are with everyone. You make it feel like we’re hanging out with you!
Thanks for reaching out Victoria... It was quite a pleasant experience as everyone was quite welcoming.. really great people there
Never seen you or any of your videos. But you have the most amazing happy energy! I’ve yet to watch a video of one person so happy and nice about everything for 20 mins.. which I’m sure was hours of you waiting but still so genuinely happy! Love it! New fan here!
Hey Tim! I'm so glad you got to go to my favorite BBQ place! Too bad I live in far far West Texas! Always have a bottle of their BBQ sauce in my frig! When Red Rocks Casino in Vegas opened they had a restaurant. It just wasn't the same without those glorious Texas skies! Cheers!
Hello Tim Lee
Have a good day
Good luck with your food blog shows
U are awesome buddy
God bless you always
Be safe out there
As always Tim another fantastic video the pork ribs look tender so did that brisket and a sausage I like smoked turkey so I would definitely try that and both of those desserts looked delicious 🤤.
The brisket was definitely the favorite 😋
Always exceptional, besides the wonderful food, it is your friendliness to the staff and servers and also to the other guests that make you a favourite of all the food bloggers. .. Cheers ..
Thank you again Laurie, I think everyone there was just enjoying themselves... As they should.. really good food and a great location 🙂
Always gracious and well-mannered. Spread the love, Tim!
You can order bbq from Salt Lick to be shipped to you. We order it two or three times a year and we look forward to it so much! It comes well wrapped and we absolutely love it!
You know, I know it's probably not the best thing to order because of its high shipping costs relative to its cost, but I would probably get some more of that potato salad 😋
The whole time watching this my mouth was salivating. The peach cobbler looked amazing.
Love your videos. You are such a pleasant person and you a lot of fun to watch experience different food.
Tim I love your warm personality and politeness. With the way sometimes people view Asians after the pandemic you truly reunite all people of all backgrounds with common respect and kindness thank you for representing.
thank you another great video from the great state of texas
Aw you make everything look so good tim wow amazing and bucees has great BBQ sandwiches love the mild Jerky yummy stop in its so good and the banana pudding cups the fruit cups everything is so fresh
Thank you Tim for your videos. I envy you. Great food, great places. If you ever need an extra companion, sign me up...hehehehe
What a wonderful BBQ feast you took us to. Can't wait to go there and try when I go to Texas next time. Thanks so much, Tim, for driving such a long way to show us this lovely feast.
Awesome Tim! Thank you for bringing back some treats from buc'ees as well!
My pleasure Alex! Hope you enjoyed 🙂
Good video, Tim. I really like the Salt Lick, but most Texans wouldn’t rate it very highly. I like the sweeter sauces they make. Did you notice that the Cole slaw had sesame seeds. One of the founders was Asian. That’s why the potato salad also isn’t a traditional southern potato salad. Whenever you order brisket, make sure you request the moist brisket. Also, something funny to note is that both the wine steward and waiter were named Cash. I have lived in Texas for 14 years and never met anyone named cash. You go to a barbecue place in one afternoon and you meet two guys named Cash. I guess you were rolling in the Cash that day! Happy travels. That Mexican place you mentioned to David looked awesome!
Awesome Texas BBQ Tim !!! The Peach cobbler is the Bomb ! Thank you for sharing ! You are so Kind ...Tim ! I love how you acknowledge the workers !!!
Thank you Gail, the peach cobbler was a nice way to end the meal 😋
OH MY GOODNESS THAT FOOD LOOKS SO GOOD. THANKS FOR SHARING, KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK
Thank you again Tracey 🙂
Hey Tim my Vessi’s arrived today and I really love them! Thanks for the recommendation!
I joined your channel today after seeing you on David channel at Xochi. Can't wait to see more of your videos, from Texas!😎👍
The nut name battle is old as time. In Texas and the South the nuts are called 'Puh-cons.' No one in the area say "PEE-cans." Glad you are enjoying your travels...
Thank you so much! Glad to know and have it settled ...at least in the south 🙂
Oooh look very delicious. Thank you Tim
I doubt if you'll see this so long after the showing - but I feel the need to type anyway! There are so many opinions about ribs as there are about politics - 🙄- from sauce or no sauce - beef or pork - red sauce or white - even bone or no bone and fall off the bone or with a "chew". I've not had it every way- but I've certainly had a variety! Myself, I like a bit of chew to a pork rib and not so saucey to a fall off the bone beef rib just dripping with sauce -heavy on the vinegar for both 😋!
And as many of your vlogs as I have watched I am still astounded at how much you can eat! Thank you for sharing your travels with us!
I really enjoy your videos Tim!
keep posting!
Hi Tim thanks for another great video I live in the UK but love watching your videos you always have such fun meeting new people and eating great food your soo kind and humble and it shows in every video 😍.
I would not be able to move after eating all that food. They should have a hotel next door so you can drink and relax after all that food. Happy digestion Tim!
I could certainly have used a hotel next door 🙂
Mmm bbq!! This looks amazing!
Hi Tim Wow All the food looks Delicious 😋 and the Ice cream looks too good ❤️
The ice cream and peach cobbler was a nice way to end the evening 😋
Would love to go to Texas. Great bbq restaurant. Would love to go to Buc-ees, go to Buc-ees Tim you will be surprised and don't forget to take a video would love to see what you think. I also watch David all the time. Well thanks for taking us to all these great places. Thanks and take care.
Another great video Tim! Thanks for going the extra miles (so many miles!) to get this content and show us the Salt Lick BBQ! It looks so good. I wish I was brave enough drive / fly that kind of distance to explore and try different restaurants on my own. Do you ever feel unsafe travelling alone? I want to one day overcome the fear of travelling alone so that I can do what you do. For now I live through your videos. Thank you for sharing it! 😀💖
Thank you so much for reaching out Bren! Just very grateful to get to visit these places and share with everyone here. I hope you're able to travel soon either on your own or with a group. I'm definitely paying attention to the places I visit, but touristy areas are perfectly fine. Sometimes if I have a few days to myself, I would sign up for a walking tour with a group of people and it's a nice way to get your bearings in a new place safely.
@@TimLeeLetsGo Great work as usual Tim!!! Salt Lick is the spot!!! I used to hit it up a lot when I lived in Houston. I would commute there on the weekends. If you're ever in Columbia, South Carolina, please check out the BBQ buffet called "Little Pigs" BBQ, off of Alpine Road.

I,must try this place🥰🤤😋!
Thank you 😍.
salt lick bbq is awesome! i miss that place!
Have you gone there before CJ? I agree, really enjoyed the meal and the great people there 🙂
This is great Tim, our family will be taking our spring break vacation next week to San Antonio. This is about an hour drive, but will be so worth it. I’m adding this Salt Lick to our itinerary! Great vlog!
Hope you and your family have an amazing time Tim! It's quite an enjoyable afternoon and lots to eat! It's quite nice that they have a BYOB policy, and also back it up with a winery in case you forget 😉
Is,this really all you can eat?
Love barbecue 🥰🤤😋!
Always love your videos Tim..
Cheers!!
What an amazing meal and such friendly people. I would love to try that potato salad! I will skip the ribs but give me doubles of everything else! Thank you, Tim.
Thanks John! It's quite nice that something as simple as a potato salad can be done so well.. I think they put the barbecue sauce in there 😋
@@TimLeeLetsGo Plus, you are such a gentleman I think you would be a great dining companion.
Share that wine Tim 🥂
Absolutely! It wasn't shown on the video, but I definitely shared the wine with some new friends. Definitely watching the consumption as I had to drive back 🙂
That cobbler reaction!! Umm... we are going!!!! Love your videos. Found them through David's Channel and your video on Kim Son buffet.
Salt lick is ok but Franklin's is next level BBQ please try it next time Tim great video
Thank you Joe! Cool, would have loved to have visited Franklin's! I heard the lineups were insane 😮😉
Tim: I don’t understand why you don’t have more subscribers than mike Chen? You deserve way more subscribers. So laid back and so friendly to everyone!
Tim is probably too young. Mikey Chen’s new wife is only 23 year young, and he is 40 or 41.
Thank you again Vincent! Really grateful to get to visit these places and share with everyone here. All the best to you and yours 🙂
LOVELY.. Hi good morning watching from England.. I feel I'm in USA now foods is awesome.. Thank you for sharing this video.. Please stay connected love Sally and Paul 🦋🌹🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Hi Tim, as usually love to see your video clip. Austin, Texas is my second home town though anyway 'Buc-ees' is a convenience store with restroom along free way for fellows long distant traveller. Hope you have a good time at Texas! Cheers,

Gosh I hate it when the humidity makes my shirts tight..LOL! Another Great review, love ya Tim!!!
Yeah, it got more humid as an evening went on 😆😉
@@TimLeeLetsGo LOL!!! Too funny Tim!!!
Well Tim, everything looked finger-lickin' good! You may have discovered a new sandwich with the potato salad, coleslaw, brisket and sausage on bread lol. That peach cobbler looked amazing :)
Thanks Tom and Mike, there was quite a bit of food so had to start combining things into a sandwich 😉
New sub here. It's such a pleasure to see what a people person you are. We are heading to Texas In a few weeks and will give this spot a try. Great video Tim
I am new subscriber, I have glance at some of your videos before subscribering, I like some of the places you are traveling too, including this location. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Tim it's nice to see and hear your voice. Well, I can smell the food from here and I'm hungry too 😆 Well you are always an easy-going person that is why people love you. Anyhow enjoy those tasty foods.

Wow. Looks amazing.
Looks delicious!!! Great job as,always Tim!
Everything looks so good. I could tell the beef rib was tough. That’s too bad.
Yeah, definitely need to search out for some really nice beef ribs 😋
Beautiful bbq pit
Nice shirt and great video Tim😄At this point, I'm pretty sure you have 2 stomachs ..turkey AND beef ribs on top of the all you can eat BBQ 😆 I can't believe you actually drove 182.3 miles for this 😁that BBQ sandwich looks mighty tasty ..I might have to try that next time..if you have a chance.. look up Hisako Roberts and you'll see why that mashed potato was so 🤤
Thank you again David 🙂. Really grateful for your kind gift, and it was really appreciated... Mom is loving her t-shirt also. Just checking out why the potato salad is so good 😋😋😋
@@TimLeeLetsGo it's not a problem Tim and I'm glad you had a wonderful time in Texas 😄stay longer next time 😆
My job took me to TX, NC and MS, and I had a pleasure of eating lots of bbqs. Too bad, there were no unlimited bbqs then but the prices are cheap. That parking area with small gravels reminded me of most eateries there. Thanks for your video again.
It was a very nice BBQ experience and glad to hear it was similar to the places you visited 😋. The barbecue was definitely very affordable 🙂
I was born and raised in Texas, never been there but I hear it’s well worth the drive, there’s a barbecue restaurant on every corner here but a lot are just so so
Hi Tim and warm welcomes from Texas! Love your videos and the way you describe the food and locations. BTW, I found your channel from fellow Houstonian David Sriracha. Looking forward to your next videos.
Awesome video Tim!
Thank you Sam!😀
Awesome content, I enjoy traveling and eating with you so much!
Really good looking BBQ. A nice meaty feast. Cheers, Tim and God Bless! ✌️🇨🇦
Hi Tim. The food looked incredible, that potato salad actually looks as delicious as you said it was and I really want to eat it. The turkey was just *mm*. The way you describe every single piece of food you taste makes it sound more amazing than it tastes. Every time I watch your videos the food looks more delicious each time. I look forward to your next video. Happy eating Tim!🧋🙂🍪🤤
Evening Tim. Good place. As always I try to pick what my favorite might be. In this case it is...Each and every.

Hi Tim. It’s good to see you traveling to different places. I’ve been craving good bbq. Cheers 🍷
Tim, it would be fun to see if you could do a review on 'Bucees' (Texas largest gas station) and its food before your leave Texas.
There were so many buc-ee's around... On the way back, I finally had to stop off at one to get gas.. it was unreal inside 😮
@@TimLeeLetsGo -- I'm glad you stopped at a Buc-ee's! I was blown away the first time I went in one.
Try the beef brisket sandwich.
Sad fact: You as a Canadian have seen more of my country than I and I was born in America. I'm hanging my head in shame. Thanks for letting us live vicariously through you. PS...I'm watching out for that humidity!
Sad fact: What I was trying to say the last time didn’t come out the correct way. My English isn’t that good. I don’t write Chinese either. I was only trying to says that as a culinary professor you would know whether the comments people wrote about your former student is true or not. I guess I’m just stupid cuz people I talked to says she has to do the sick stuff!! Also, being born in America means nothing!!!! Young CZcamsrs like Tim get to travel all over which is a good job or hobby so that is not a sad fact but a good fact.
@@minlui2752 I'm not a culinary professor I taught her science almost 10 years ago. I don't keep up with her channel. And I certainly don't fact check anything about her. She is a stranger to me.
Also when I said sad fact, I meant it is sad fact that I am American born and have not seen America as much as Tim, who is Canadian. Sad for me, NOT for Tim. I think you are having issues understanding my comments. It was meant as joke on me, not Tim. Tim is lucky to be able to do the things I wish I could. I am jealous of him. Again, I think you are misunderstanding my comments.
@@tinayu4540 I thought you said you taught culinary so it’s a mistake. I don’t watch her anymore either. I did Not misunderstood your comment about being born in America, and haven’t traveled and seen so many places as Jim has. I didn’t want you to misunderstand my comments so I said being young CZcamsrs is not a sad fact but a good fact. I understand you were joking about yourself. Being born in America means nothing is just my opinion not about you. This is what I mean about my English Not being good enough to properly express myself without misunderstanding!! Oh, if she was a student of your 10 years ago, she isn’t exactly a stranger even though you no longer have contact with her. She is still your former student where as Tim is indeed a stranger unless Tim was also a student or an acquaintance of your.
@@minlui2752 Ok, as long as we understand each other, it's all good. I didn't mean any disrespect to anyone. Sometimes even my husband, who was born in Hong Kong and came to America over 35 years ago, have issues understanding me. Maybe it's me! 😂 Keep working on the English. It will take time, but eventually you will get it. Watch lots of movies and videos. That's how I learned a lot of my Cantonese, by watching Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung movies!
@@tinayu4540 Oh my goodness, I just saw the cute baby picture next to your name. I learned Cantonese from my much older sister. I also watched lots of Cantonese movies.
Nice reminder of our trip, we just arrived home from Austin Texas, we did our BBQ tour, Terry Black, Franklin and Salt Lick! Kids loved it, Terry Black is our favorite!
Oh! A few people mentioned about franklin's, was it good? Much appreciate you reaching out about blacks!
You sure know how to make someone salivate, Tim 🤣🤣! Now I’m thinking about where I can get some good BBQ… Glad you’re enjoying your trip to Texas. Be safe and looking forward to your next video 😊.

It was quite an impressive area! Really good food and the location was stunning
WHAT A WONDERFUL MEAL THANKS
Thank you Linda, really great food and great people 🙂
Fantastic video Tim! You should stop by Buccees if you can, they are the largest gas station in the country and has a huge variety of foods for you to eat. That BBQ is definitely making me hungry haha
Hi Nishino, I actually stopped by a buc-ee's on the way back for gas. It was crazy big inside and out 😮😃

Thank you again Jade 😃
Hey Tim,Texas looks good on you❣️We welcome you with open arms anytime you would like to come back,we hope you enjoyed your stay🙂
Wow...another winner! This is my favorite kind of food. Great videoing and narration. Stick with the humidity story re the T-shirt, however, it might not stick......haha. Thanks.
LoL, the meals have definitely been catching up to me... Thank you again Allan
The environment at the Salt Lick is amazing - the giant oaks, the winery, etc. However, there is much better BBQ in the Austin area than is available at the Salt Lick.
I’ve been there and loved it 😍
It's quite a great area!
Glad you got your BBQ Tim!
Thank you SA3🙂. It was quite a nice afternoon to go explore 😋
BBQ beef ribs are so hard to find (at least here in south florida)! They are my absolute favorite!!!
Yeah, I was actually looking forward to them at the first place called The pit room. And they were pretty good here also, but could have been a bit more tender 😋
Beef ribs are my favorite, and I knew as you took that first bite that they weren't tender. Oh well, glad you still enjoyed your bbq. I can't believe no one told you to stop and check out Buc-ee's!
Thanks Tim for another Delicious Video. The food and desserts looked Amazing.
I noticed the freeways weren't as packed as they are here in California. Take Care!!!
I was pleasantly surprised too! The drive was quite pleasant.
Oh you GOTTA make a video on Bucee’s!!!
I let curiosity get the better of me and on my way back, I stopped by a buc-ee's to get gas... It was unreal 😃
Red sweet wines are my favorite wines.. I'll have to try that one some day 🙂
That was quite a pleasant wine indeed.. very light 😋
Hadn't heard of Driftwood, but looked it up ...quite rural...love it. So the deals are big in texas but not the prices. 😂 ty for bringing us a new video to brighten our Sundays 😊 also...a friend of mine drives to Florida every summer and can't wait to stop at a Buccees....he says they have THE best jerky..😋😁
Thank you Pat! It was quite a pleasant visit 🙂. I'm still surprised at the Great value one fines in Texas. I actually did stop by Buccee's afterwards for gas and it was unreal.
@@TimLeeLetsGo safe travels back home 🤗
I first ate at the Salt Lick in 1971 with a bunch of my fraternity brothers when it was only a few years old. Back then the family style all you can eat was 6 dollars per person, which we thought was kinda high. Not near as fancy as it is now. It has changed a lot.
That’s so cool they’ve been doing the ayce for so long. It’s a beautiful place and the food looks amazing. And definitely worth the price now. I think for ‘71 that might be expensive based on what I know about prices at the time. But the price now is so low I actually checked the date of the video and was shocked it was from today!
Looks delicious Tim!
Thank you Brandon... Very good food and very good people 🙂
Aw dang it, wish I knew you were coming to the Austin metro! I'd have shown you some special places!
I've done all the top 100 bbq places in Texas 😁
I used to eat nothing but BBQ when traveling throughout Texas to do every stop.
Glad you enjoyed our state!
Thank you so much for your kind offer! I wish I had some time to spend in Austin... And that's something certainly to look forward to 🙂
