This video is a part of my childhood growing up as a drummer. I wanted a set of Gretsch drums so bad.
Hi guys.
As we mentioned before, there is no point comparing two styles of music. that is just a matter of taste!
this video is just about fun and shows how Gretsch drums sound in these 2 different music styles.
Cmon legendary jazz drummer Louie Bellson had already invented the double bass drumming back in 1950's... So, accidentally he is the all father of extreme metal drumming...
metal and jazz came from the same roots, so that's not very surprising...
@@Vaylon. that’s probably why at their cores they’re the same thing
I am a proud Metal guy, but I must say Jazz dudes takes the cake for technique. After all Jazz is known as THE most difficult genre to play... BUT Metal on the other hand is known for Raw Unchained Power WE ALL LOVE and admire! METAL FOREVER! :D
Cheers!
xD
Jazz is far from the most challeging genre to play.Anyone who can't keep even time is already playing jazz..just like the New Orleans non musically inclined slaves that invented it on Sundays.
Im telling yah man! Jazz players can play anything, precise flams to accented drum chops, theyve got it all.
Hahaha, how cute... Jazz players can JAZZ. You can watch jazz drummers attempting at other complex genres (like extreme metal) all over CZcams and you'll see that they struggle just like non-jazz drummers attempting to play a swing.
Nice video!
The Jazz drummers were the pioneers! They were the great masters!
The Metal would not exist without the roots of the Blues!
it would, metal can perfectly be independent of blues.
@@sebastian6121 bruh what do u even know jazz history thats not how it works
@@silva7903 you don't understand technology progress, was just a matter of time to metal to appear
@@sebastian6121 bruh wdym without blues rock wouldn't exist without rock metal wouldn't exist either, it's evolution and music history, metal ddin't just "spawned" in our society
@@silva7903 you're assuming that blues was the only genre with 4/4 or pentatonic scale when those sounds were already all over the world
A lot of the comments here are cancer. Drumming is not a competition and the video was made for fun.
Yes!
For fun? No. For marketing.
Yeah i think the point of the video just for entertainment
but don't use cancer it not funny
Fernando Vasquez it wasn’t supposed to be funny?
Bravo !
Merci à ces deux batteurs pour leur talent...et leur humour..
Et tout spécialement Yann qui devrait faire du cinéma :)
Don't take it too seriously! these videos have been made to show how Gretsch Drums Kits sound... these are definitely NOT made to show some technical moves.
Take it easy!
GretschDrumsFr You TELL em!
it is too late... you started a war between metalheads and jazz musicians 😂
Fun display of 2 styles i love very much. Was in good humor taste too.
You set yourself up for it with that title
And the video is quite funny!!!
Thanks, mate.
Don't worry... more videos coming soon!
Jazz CHOPS are so much cool. As a metal drummer, jazz drummers always amaze me for their level of coolness
There is a jazz/metal band callled Le Scrawl.
For all of you that enjoyed.
I for one, love this video. Such a nice contrast of sounds. Wow, I love the ring in those toms. So rich and well dampened. Great vid.
Jazz = technique
Metal = crazyness + speed
1:11 that is all i want from a black metal drummer
Same
0:37 sepultura-territory :3
I was thinkin the same... Then Overkill from Motorhead
Yes. I think
And like 30 other songs
U goddamn right
I thought so
The most important thing to remember is....music isn't a competition. I've seen metal drummers do things it would take years for jazz drummers to do, and vice versa. While learning different to play different genres will make you a better drummer, it isn't a requirement. If you like jazz, play jazz. If you like metal, play metal, one isn't better than the other, it's as simple as that.
Nicolas is a very good jazz drummer. Check out the other videos on the channel. you might change your mind
I think the point of the video is to show that they have good drums for different genres. Either way it all depends on preference, I started off with punky and fast but often monotonous beats but as I have progressed I find it more appealing to try lots of different vintage rock, funk and some jazz beats to add some flavour to the sound and also because you don't just learn new techniques, but also the history of drumming more as a whole
Best video ever!!! Plus it really let's you compare the tones of the two different sets. Thanks Gretsch!
Thanks, checking him out now.
People say; metal drummers all learn jazz but jazz drummers don't learn metal. I've found this to be absolutely true, and i've grown up playing saxaphone in big bands, very musical family.
HAHAHAHAAHAH! this is the funnest thing ever.... It took me 5 years to realize i should of learned jazz first before skipping straight to punk pop/hardcore/metal..as you see with just knowing how to play jazz you could play anything, their wouldn't metal if their wasn't jazz
Maravilloso... ¡LARGA VIDA AL JAZZ!
Funny AND great drumming from both.
Ambos géneros son excepcionales!!
7 years, good content
wow these guys an amazing job complimenting each others playing it was entertaining
Ladies and gentlemen,
we are happy to announce that some new videos will show up in the next few days... with a special guest!
Mesdames et Messieurs,
nous avons le plaisir de vous annoncer que de nouvelles vidéos ont été réalisées et seront publiées très prochainement, avec un invité exceptionnel!
I absolutely agree with that too. A jazz drummer who can't work a double pedal, do a short solid blast beat, or go all out energy when the time is required, is as crippled as the metal drummer who can't do paradiddles and find the hi-hat pedal from time to time, both are missing on very cool options in their drumming repertoire. Like a bodybuilder who's all strong from the top but no cardio and no legs. It's much better to be good at everything, than awesome at some and suck at others.
Brilliant sense of humor ))
thnx for a good mood
I like the brush work
I feel so old rewatching this
Not a very good example of metal drumming.
Of course this is for laughs, though.
aerogun18 No. They're just showing that a jazz drummer can do the same as a metal drummer.
Why not a good example? Want to hear emo metal?
DBSaiyanTim777 It just isn't what I'd consider a true example of what metal drumming is about. All he really does is double bass and blasting and there's more to metal than that. But, as I said, it's a joke, so I don't care that much.
This is punk drumming, not metal.
@@viniciusbertucci no
Jazz was the first music with the drumset we know
I listen to wide range of music. I can say that they are indeed good in their own style. No winner and looser.
lol! Good ole fashion trading 8s. Great drumming and great humor. Yann kills it at the end with the brushes and that look of injured pride.. Thanks for this..
haha Yes! Clearly Jazz
Absolutely Brilliant..more please...love the humour.
that jazz dude would easily be at home in a metal band when he picked the sticks up
be at home with infant anhilator, yeah lol
I think it just takes two different kind of skill sets to play Jazz vs Metal. With jazz, drummers seem to play the instrument more "melodically" (like Max Roach), whereas Metal drums require heavier, straightforward rhythm, without having to worry as much about nuance.
I like Jazz more, that's just me, but that's not to say Metal drummers are just a bunch of wild-armed hacks either.
I agree with you, both have elements alot different than the other. Great comment 👍
For me I don't look at this the way some of the others do here. To me this is just a parody and a well done one at that, a great clip and top playing from both sides. Both drummer's sound great in this clip and both styles have something to offer.
awesome love the jazz
Amazing and funny!! Both of them!!
The comments are making me sick.
This is actually a very good video and they are both good drummers!
Metal and Rock is making my adrenaline rush while drumming and Jazz makes my muscle crazy with this shifting of hard and soft. Jazz is tough, indeed it is.
Native Construct says [insert "why not both?" meme here]
Fabulous drumming and concept video.
the jazz snare... WHOA. GORGEOUS!
such a great/entertaining video!!
hey guys, I love your videos
very funny and incredible good drumming
hope you will post some more
all the best
Michael
Que duelo Maravilhoso!
Both are great in their own rights. Though I'm more lean to jazz. Props to the metal guy for his awesome energy!
Perfect minimalist set::: Drum: Gretsch Catalina Club; Piano: Nord Grand; Bass: Fender Jazz Bass.
0:53 Wake Up Dead?
ちゃんと音止めてくれるロックドラマーの優しさ
I play jazz influenced beats with my metal friends and it still works lol
It's what metal is about, being loud! Yes, I am a meta head. Great video!
0:58 when you finally get your act together after a nap
Nice sounding kit
Brilliant love the ending
That's awesome
Metal kit: Daddy loves me more because im more popular!
Jazz kit: Daddy loves me more because im smarter!
Me: Now now kids...i love you both DIFFERENTLY.
Ofcourse jazzers win, the concept of jazz music as a whole is to be free of rules governing music, so it maks it dynamics is ever changing. Plus Jazz music has been around more than metal did. Its one of the foundations of music genre the proceeded after it.
Jazz, Blues and Rock (including Metal) all have the same roots.
Fantastic ending❤
when you'll see the upcoming video... you'll only think about Gretsch!
in reality,it depends on the drummer how he attacks and show his idea in a specific genre..any genre can be creative.technical.more dynamic etc
Awesome Video!!!!...
I am a metal drummer, but I respect jazz guys a whole ton. Even if I don't like the music.
awesome ~~~ love this
I'm a metal drummer and this video is hilarious!
Jazz and Metal did once have a fight but in all the passion and anger they started making love. 9 months later prog metal was born.
It was so funny when the metal pretty much crush the first go and the jazz drummer picked up a pair of brushes!😂
check out other videos of this 2 guys...they are both jazz players
These videos are hilarious!
Great video :D
for anyone that doesnt know most of the things you hear in metal came from jazz
for example alternating blast beats.
Jajajaja me encanta que maravilla 😃😀
I find this so sunny. e.g. 30secs. A musically phrased/tastefully syncopated bit of drumming is just returned with what sounds like a man having a fit with a chainsaw.
There both great styles of playing drums don't hate it's music
It's only "necessary" if you want to not grow as a drummer and limit your creativity. The moment when you set rules for genres is the moment when you limit both your mind and physical abilities as a performer.
The fact that you don't think jazz players can play a double pedal is one of the most hilarious things I've seen on the internet all day, good on you!
aight, now bring a jazz player that doesn't play double bass, and make him play 270 bpm with only swivel technique, good luck
Love it.
dude hes actually not kidding that is one baaaaad example of a metal drummer. and yes metal drummers know how to play soft and with dynamics but the songs that they play usually don't allow them to due to the heavy nature of the songs.
I finally bought a Gretsch kit and I just noticed it's the same kit Yann is playing in satin black. lol
pure awesome!
That's awesome 😂👍
Love it!
Cool !
i have got the black set :) ist awesome :)
awesome!
I thing I'll take Gretsch Drums
most jazz players can play rock but only rare are those rock player who knows jazz scales
true, but I don't know any jazz players who possess the same power that rock drummers have, or any that'll be able to play it with the same conviction. that's what makes rock hard
Are you sure ??
really? scales on drums?
+Stephen Barlow it doesn't matter how hard you hit the drums, but how you hit it to get the maximum sound out of it. Rock drummers hit it hard because if they don't, then the guitars and the singing would cover them. but jazz drummers don't have to hit it hard, but if they do, they'd rule over rock drummers, because not only they have the strength, they also possess the speed required. so yeah jazz is better than rock
+The Usurper Lol
Jesus, I want that Classic snare!
Anyone know the piece Viccaro plays at the beginning of the video by any chance?
How I interpret this video:
Don't diss musicians from other genres. Being haughty doesn't make you any better.
hahahahaha funny as hell. I am a drummer myself, so I am always checkin these out. I watched the last 10 seconds 5 times in a row laughing
Love it! :))
this video just proves fusion/prog metal drummers are the best on earth.
2 videos que he visto de esto, 2 videos en los que hay una clara tendencia al jazz xD
Neither " was better" than the other they both are great at what they do
Super !!! :D
Okay the first three times Nicholas played it was jazzy (especially the third time) but I don't know if, as a jazz enthusiast, I would call that fourth piece "jazz".
