- Throwing / Making a clay pottery Candlestick on the wheel.
These types of pot always tend to go a bit out of control by the nature of the pot being tall and solid.
This one was a bit of a trial to see if I could get three ridges on the stem.
This uses a different technique to other pots as you're just squeezing the clay into shape instead of making a wall in the pot.
Always love how quick and straight to the point he is with these videos. Entertaining from beginning to end (:
We were throwing something with a similar problem a few weeks back and found that it's easier to steady the upper part from the inside of the form than the outside. Just let your finger ride around the inside of the rim. Also at the bottom, "reverse" pull... go down to the foot with the excess clay instead of trying to pull it up into the already unstable stack..
I've made candlesticks myself. Never thought of starting by the top, though.

It’s actually surprisingly easy! I made a pretty good pot on my first try on a pottery wheel and I was wearing a skirt...look at how he’s sitting and you’ll know how uncomfortable that would be
