    Aimee, I was a tennis player turned golfer. everybody's been telling me for years how I pause so long at the top that it is incorrect, yet I hit the ball much further than most women. It is truly refreshing to hear you confirm that that's the way to hit with the body. I love your videos.

    I really had a difficult time pausing at the top for a three count. I had no idea I was swinging with my arms as you described in the video.
    However, once I tried the three count pause and the step drill in front of my bathroom mirror I got it almost immediately. I am enjoying going to the range and practicing now.
    I plan to take the step drill to the course as my practice swing to keep my tempo in check.
    Thank you Aimee, you are a great instructor!

    Aimee, this tip, TURN ~ PAUSE ~ BODY is invaluable. So much so I watch your video every day. And watch it many times before a game. I played several shots today that were effortless but went a good distance thanks to you. I have found you need to trust your swing but do as you say. THANKS

    Aimee - thank you for the clear explanations. I watched the setup video last night, and discovered that I was putting too much weight on my heels. At the driving range today, it took a while to get used to putting my weight on the balls of my feet, but the difference it made was tremendous. Thanks again!

    I LOVE these videos!!! I am a very new golfer... My husband and I try to have weekly golf dates and to my surprise, I am HOOKED on golf! However..I do need advise if possible... I am a very large breasted woman, so it's awkward for me to get the right grip and set up angle on my clubs... is there anything I can do to help with my swings by adjusting my stance or am I going to have to settle for a lesser range of motion?
    THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I think the pause at the top is something that would benefit both high and low handicappers. For low handicappers, even with the swing thought that you begin your upper and lower body downswing at the same time, your lower will still inevitably lead. I still remember those old articles from Tom Kite that emphasized this point...but I think Aimee describes it very well.

    My great question: do we grip the shaft with a loose fingers or strong or both are correct as long as we can create a good club head speed thru the ball. Tx

    • @Silly.Old.Sisyphus
      @Silly.Old.Sisyphus Před 2 lety +1

      "Grip" is a very unfortunate term, because it implies a strong hold, whereas in fact you should grip the club as lightly as possible, only firm enough to stop it slipping out of your fingers during the swing.
      A golf club handle is encased in textured rubber; not just to cushion the vibration of the impact, but to provide a friction hold. Wearing a soft glove on the leading hand increases the friction between hand and handle, further reducing the need for pressure.
      The reason a soft grip are important is that the golfswing is not a swing - it's a sling! It's a jointed-arm swing, with your wrists as the joint between the upper and lower parts of a jointed arm (the upper part is your arm and the lower part is the clubshaft). A soft grip does not tense your forearm muscles, which enables the wrists to pivot without resistance during the latter part of the downswing, in a kind of double-pendulum motion, the same dynamics as a shepherd's sling shot.
      It's all explained here:

    Is this for all clubs but the driver?

  • @jamesyoo67
    @jamesyoo67 Před 5 lety

    Maybe stupid question @Golf with Aimee, but at the peak of your backswing shouldn't your club be parallel to the ground? Your backswing looks tiny bit shorter, is that okay?

    • @GolfWithAimee
      @GolfWithAimee  Před 5 lety

      Hi James, I think it's a great question.
      With irons I have better coil & control when I keep it slightly shy of parallel. Max coil is better than forcing the club to get to parallel. Especially if you don't have the best flexibility.
      Hope this helps!

  • @iljasweep7406
    @iljasweep7406 Před 7 lety +1

    I can easily stop at the top but I still do not understand at all when you or anyone mentions that you cannot use your arms to hit the ball but you have to use your body. I'm a beginner and I do not understand this concept. I can stop at the top, then move my body, but it's not that suddenly my swing will follow by just moving my body. I have to do something actively with my arms maybe shoulders to make the swing go, so I'm confused each time I hear this. I know I do not really have much of muscles in my arm, but I definitely do use them in some way. Could you please explain this?
    Besides my question, I do like watching your channel a lot and try to implement what I learn from each lesson.

    • @andyblackwood5310
      @andyblackwood5310 Před 7 lety

      its a sequence of moves in a particular order , you still swing your arms but in tune with the other sequences

    • @ArtJorgensen
      @ArtJorgensen Před 3 lety

      It is a subject worth working on, Ilja, because I 100% believe that, in a proper golf swing, you should NOT use the arms at all to swing the club. You cannot swing your arms fast enough using arm muscles to get the clubhead speed you are capable of. The power for the swing comes mostly from the hips (and proper sequencing, of course). Two professional teachers who can explain this to you are Aimee and Paul Wilson. They both teach this most important subject well (but Aimee is much prettier). Paul Wilson even claims that NO professional golfer uses his arms as a power source in the swing. That is astonishing to hear!
