The map in DD2 is the new standard for RPGs. Its so large and immersive nothing else compares.
130 hours in and I am sooooo excited to see what comes next.
    My only complaints are:
    1. the lack of end game content, because I want to keep playing, but theres nothing left to do. I want dungeons. BIG dungeons. Like BBI but 4x the size.
    2. Trickster needs some improvements. Its my absolute favorite class because of how unique it is. But so much of what it does is a gimmick and not practical.
    3. More vocations in general. Really sad Mystic Knight wasnt here, and I was really hoping Alchemist from Online would make the cut. Hopefully soon(tm).
    4. difficulty settings. the game is just wayyyy too easy. Dynamic scaling and more mob density would be great.

This game likely has some serious memory bandwidth mismanagement coupled with heavy cpu utilization. Typically (though certainly not always) resolutions scale off of the GPU independently of the CPU. This means that even if the resolution is lowered, the cpu is still preoccupied with running other tasks to render an extra frame. This can sometimes be a sign of poor optimization on the developers end. But regardless, extra concessions would need to made other than resolution (say, cpu driven physics would need to be scaled back) in order to free up the CPU’s task force. With that you potentially risk altering the fundamental mechanics of the game. I’m not defending Capcom here. But it’s not necessarily that simple

performance for me is completely fine, 70-90fps on my 3070ti while GPU reaching 50-70% with graphics on max, except ray tracing which i left disabled (~80% on intensive scenes). however the optimisation in the city is GOD AWFUL. from what i gathered it seems to be CPU issue and NPC's are unoptimised or needlessly complex, making it CPU intensive.

DD2 has a ton of world logic, NPC/monsters AI behavior, physics interaction NPCs with surroundings and game mechanics under the hood, and this all works not only in front of the player's eyes, but also in a large radius around, it is CPU heavy for calculating. So anyone who thinks that the game is eating up more PC power than it should - think about whether this is true.

I'd wager the 2nd game is going to do something similar to that. As for optimization, yea I heard it's a bit rough, but if you can handle 30fps then I guess it's fine, maybe?

It's not overwhelmed with negative reviews, it's mixed at worst.
The microtransactions is the thing people complain the most about, not because it's predatory but because it's microtransactions on a game that sincerely had no need for.
The next thing that turns people off is the fact that the game only allows you 1 save state, if you screw up your playthrough, you can't reload from whenever you want.
My main concerns though, are none of that.
The game doesn't offer a very deep and engaging plot, the gameplay is exactly the same as the first one, skills and everything, it barely tried to do anything new. While it's not necessarily a bad thing, the potential to be something better 10 year later was there, it's easy to see and hard to ignore.
