The craziest thing isn't that he hit that note - it's that he held it AND added vibrato. Any singer knows that when you're in an uncomfortable range of your voice, vibrato is impossible/difficult. That means that he is COMFORTABLE at that range. Right before he hits it here, he shakes the mic like he did before, but what I think was happening is that he hit a note that was too high for the equipment/our ears to pick up - because it looks like he is actually singing during that time - and then he realized it, reset, and went "down" to the D8.
This dude is a literal superhuman.

As for the "silence" just before he hits the D8, and this is my theory and I am sticking to it, he hit an even higher note and realizing that our human ears did not pick it up, dropped down to a D8. In September 2017, Dimash performed 5 songs live at Gakku, including “Unforgettable Day” (2015) and “My Beauty (2012); which are two of his own compositions.
He sang as the headliner at the Gakku Open-Air Festival in Almaty, Kazakhstan to a crowd of 150,000 people. Dimash also sang “Daididau”, “My Star” and “Give Me Love”; which are also fan favourites. It has been documented, that when Dimash does not have back up singers on stage with him, he pre-records his own backing vocals.
Before this event, his highest recorded note was G#7 in whistle register, on par with Mariah Carey. At the Gakku Festival, he surpassed himself by hitting D8 during "Unforgettable Day".

    • @prinymitywebdesign

It was actually amazing how he did that and all the vocal coaches I have seen react to that one miss it or don't mention it, when it is pretty epic, because to come back so quickly was nothing short of amazing and for sure it does show his human side. He is amazing and he spent hours to get there but what is best of all is how humble he is about it. Also this guy mentioned lip syncing and I must admit I can't imagine him lip syncing especially when he has done more than one performance while he was sick, and I have seen concerts where he really wears down his voice and improvises a lot, which I get, makes sense. Another part of him being human, so if he did lip sync the guy doing this video should do some research and say why since I can't imagine Dimash lip Syncing unless there was a really good reason for it. Only my opinion though.

@@prinymitywebdesign Dimash *does* lip sync sometimes depending on the conditions set by the producers for some shows. Sometimes it's only small sections of his songs like the last run in Sinful passion, sometimes it's a whole song like I miss you. But honestly if it allows him to sing longer and preserve his voice, that's totally fine by me. We all know that he can sing them live and that he actually recorded those songs anyway so we shouldn't be defensive about it.

Lip syncing has got a bit of a bad reputation so if the person took the time to explain it as you did, I just feel that it covers things better because people can take things in a weird way and they hear lip sync associate it with that perhaps he always lip syncs because lets face it, the guy is really talented and many vocal coaches have said what he does is out of this world. Even Tara Simon pointed out that you cannot teach that to someone. It is their unique skill. I do appreciate your full explanation and it makes sense. In relation to the in ear piece, many people know that there are other devices that replace them and provide with the same function (usually placed on the stage floor) and the fact that Dimash has been trainned as an opera singer also provides him with the tecnique to sing without many of these devices and still project his voice.

This is just a relaxed intimate interaction performance with the audiences and fans so he just chills here. He uses that mic movement a lot of to create the voice effects as well as let them know he sings live since his pitch is perfect and people who are jealous will always say he is lip syncing.

I think too that he wasn't able to get the hight note from the 1st try, when he waved the mic with no sound, and then he got it from the 2nd attempt to the delight of all of us. It's not given he'll ever do this again - It's clearly a physical achievement that may not be easy to repeat.

Opera singers who have seen this say that when that silence happened right before the D8, he didn't have enough air to start the whistle. Need a lot of air to get the whistle, so took a second breathe and with full capacity was able to get to the D8. Also, swinging the head back and forth relaxes the vocal chords and muscles, which the opera singers have said that is what they use when singing the higher notes.

    Off piano!!! Wonderful!!!!!
He doesn’t show off much, but certainly he is playful with the audience at times, like insane highs and connection with the audience. But if something goes wrong he doesn’t go for smaller, instead he says ‘why not do something big?’. And that’s what he did.

I think you are correct on the "miss note" thing when he shakes the mic a second time. I've always wondered what the purpose of shaking the mic and no sound was about. Your explanation makes a lot of sense. You are the first reactor that I've heard that caught that, and or questioned what was going on there. Thanks, you have cleared something up for me that always bugs me everytime I see this performance.

Hogue Music I know! That’s exactly how I feel. It’s so true. To me it’s low quality for sure but to most they think it’s all fantastic. I just don’t get it. To me it’s nothing but that. Let’s face it, most of the good quality of music and great vocalists minimally exists in this era. I just think today’s song melodies and let’s not forget most of their lyrics are substandard/inferior to those of decades ago. That’s my opinion anyway. Well, for those that feel differently, that’s all fine with me. If that’s what they enjoy that’s great. I certainly have stopped enjoying it for a long time now and very seldom even listen anymore.
