  • My mini dam constructions has evolved a lot. Previous dam models started as simple vertical barriers to stop or restrict the flow of surface water or underground streams. Here we bring you the construction of mini brick fortified dams, one of the largest dams on my channel. Check out this satisfying Dam Breach Experiment with LEGO Minifigures and let us know what you think!

You could solve your problem by making sure the dam an the supports have a stronger foundation. It would also be useful to go underground to prevent water from crossing over the dam.

Could you do a wall curvature comparison? Like how most dams are curved inward toward the reservoir, maybe do experiments with different curvatures and see how they hold on compared to a straight one

Try to use a circular dam, and probably use aluminum reinforced bricks. Just connect them, and in case all hell goes loose. The dam will stand.

    2:36 - 1 brick, two brick, CHAOS
Love your work man, would you consider throwing in some buttresses in your other sand and brick dams? The mortared ones will probably hold with a buttress but I wonder if a brick buttress would be enough to hold up a sand core dam.
    Good job all round, subscribed!

I'm just thinking... Maybe if you seal the face of the wall with a layer of mortar that's non porous (won't absorb water) it might go a long way to binding the bricks together better. It seems like your experiments are failing along the mortar lines. Yes, a shape wider at the base tapering narrowed as it goes up like real dams are usually shaped will obviously add to the strength of it.

As a 40 year old bricklayer watching this at 10:30pm, lol yeah I know where all surprised to be here. I would suggest a double skin of brickwork bonded English bond, so both courses are tied together for example a course of stretchers, then a course of headers layed into the skin behind. Also raking buttresses. Also tied Into the wall, It would be interesting to see. I know you could make it impenetrable by going further but this would be how a retaining wall would of been built years ago to hold back large sections of earth and still wasn't enough really, but would be fun to see.

I think the issue isn't strength of assembly, rather strength of material, the mortar is penetrated by water, if the water can get through then it can take some mortar with it, repeat until all the mortar is gone and its a pile of bricks vs water easily able to push a pile of bricks
solution: slow the water's passage through the mortar
