As long as there is no mold on the food it´s mostly fine. You just have to look out for rancid smell and obviouse discolourations.

I know that visible mold is a result of spores already infesting bread but I'm not above cutting off The Moldy bits and throwing it in the toaster
The problem with mold is that it´s roots go much deeper than you think, but the worst that happens if you don´t do it on a day to day bases is that you might get an obset stomach.
+PAKTRA PRODUCTIONS That's actually really bad to do. The mold spores easily permeate through bread much further than what's visible. If there's any visible mold on a piece of bread, it's not safe to eat any part of it. I mean hey, it probably won't kill you, but your stomach may not thank you later.

A health food store in my hometown would put organic eggs that were super close to their expiration date on sale for $0.99 for a dozen! I’ve bought as many as 12 dozen at once and used them for the next two months. They were still good and the savings was so worth it.
I try to push expiry dates on things as much as possible. But once mold is on it I am out. My Gran used to tell me to scrape it off the cheese and it's fine to eat. No gran, it still smells moldy and my brain cannot communicate the fineness to my stomach.
EcoLynn you can only really scrape mold off blocks of hard cheese. My mum would say the same thing. I still toss cheese if there is mold.

Yeah, mold actually can exist without physically appearing. It can have mold spores in it that just haven’t surfaced visibly yet.
@@Hadaron that, and just scraping mold off of the surface doesn't guarantee it's okay to eat then because it can even be growing on the inside
It is definitely risky. The firmer the cheese the safer it is to remove the mold (plus a little extra) the softer it is, the deeper in the food will be affected.

In the UK there are two different types of expiration dates, Best By and Use By, Best By means it's safe to eat it after the date on the package, but it wont be in it's best condition anymore. While Use By means it usually has to be eaten within two days of the date on the package and eating it after that means there's a good chance it will make you ill.

My dad works at a restaurant, and they can’t sell chips past the expiration date. Sometimes we have the chips for like a month after it expires. Still fine. Compete waste

It's a health hazard thing. My dad brings home bread they can't sell anymore, we just freeze it to stop the mold and keep it
Yep my family has a business with vending machines and same goes for the chips in the machine. We bring them home and eat them, they're still fine - just can't be sold.
It’s a liability issue. Most stores and restaurants can’t even donate expired or even soon-to-expire food to food banks or homeless shelters because of the costs of transporting it safely (for refrigerated/frozen stuff) and because if someone got sick the lawsuits would be enormous.
