Taste is like sound. And let me tell you guys, a very expensive flat-tuned pair of fine speakers will not please 98% of the non-trained listeners. People wants something that sounds great, engaging, energetic. Only recording engineers, producers and audio master engineers would ever want to listen the mix over a flat, analytical sounding speakers.
Back on coffee, there's a difference between "clean" and "tasty"
You can in fact get a cup that's both things, clean and tasty but this is not always necessarily the case. I personally like syrupy and creamy Sweet cups more than superb clear ones, by a mile. That's me.
In the coffee scene you should look for a profile you really enjoy with most coffees. Once you get that, you're good to go. And with all this I'm saying that ZP6 is a great filter grinder designed for clarity and tea-like body. K series bring out more sweetness and body, still clear and layered. Just not lab-grade clarity, like some flats and even the ZP6

      Nice analogy.
Do you have experience with the X-Pro?
I have an Ode Gen 1 and an X-Pro, though I’ve only done one direct comparison, and the taste was very similar. However, I must say that my palate is not as refined as some.
      I’m curious about your experience.

@@johnmpifer unfortunately not at the moment. I've heard good things about the xpro. Some claim it produces a profile that's almost indistinguishable from that of the C40. But xpro workflow greatly surpases that of the C40, with a better adjustment mechanism and bulletproof zero calibration, which makes it dead consistent.
Electric grinders tend to produce a uniform profile given its rotational speed is fixed by the motor itself (some high end devices offer variable RPM)
With manual grinders profile is relative to how fast and how strong you can crank the thing, but certainly within a tiny RPM range variation. I'm a huge fan of manual hand grinders and the 1Zpresso brand (my daily driver is the Kpro)

Can't forget another advantage of hand grinders; Noise- Or should I say lack of noise? I make coffee at 5AM every weekday morning. And I would hate to wake up everyone in my house by using a noisy electric grinder.
It's a shame that the ZP6 is out of stock. I really hope that it has a continuation at some point. If anything, at least the Baratza ESP has an almost identical burr, AND it can grind for espresso.

I've been enjoying my ZP6 so far. I have a Monolith Max with Shuriken LM burrs that I tried for pourover; those result in a very silky body and rounded mouthfeel, but the ZP6 wins out in terms of clarity (at the expense of having a more tea-like body). Only brewed light-roasted natural-processed coffees so far though, so that's my experience with those types of beans.

ZP6 has so much dang hype! At first, I was underwhelmed by the Ode gen 2 coming from a Kmax, but with the SSP cast burr upgrade I’m now very happy. Still going to preorder a df83 v2 and SSP cast when they’re available though. 😅
