So yes the 85 Bears were absolutely nasty but I think getting a sack in today's NFL is harder because of how easy it is to get called for RTP. Defensive players have to be careful how they swing their body weight and how they bring the QB down so to do this in this era is insane.
True but they play more games today than back then too.
There are factors that more than make up the difference in terms of the roughing the passer you’re talking about. For example, pass/run ratios in 2022 are *significantly* skewed towards the pass vs 1985 which results in significantly less pass plays/opportunities
Also it’s not like back then they have the quick pass game that we do today. We saw the Giants in week 18 basically have Davis Webb get rid of the ball quick to avoid the pass rush. Lot less mobile and quick passing games affected sack numbers in the 80s
I completely agree. We’ve had at least 4 sacks taken away for RTP that I can remember seeing, I’m guessing it was more like 5-10 from games I wasn’t able to watch.

I gotta give big props to the D line and the secondary for these sacks. I was very interested in how many times we brought pressure so I counted. We brought more than 4 guys a total of 12 times maybe 14 times. While we have stars on this line I'm not very enthused about how Gannon rushes these guys. I will say that maybe the new way to rush is by having good coverage. I'm only 29 years old but I was brought up on Jim Johnson's defense so I know a thing or two about blitzing. I don't think you have to blitz all of the time but disguise your blitz, it creates confusion and turnovers. These players need more credit because as a consumer of football I was easily able to point out "No Blitz, no stunts." I'm not a QB or lineman but if I'm able to do that then imagine what the pros can do. There were about 2-3 plays where 5 men were on the line and there were only 4 rushers. I know my eagles are beasts but Gannon I'm worried about, he has yet to have a decent game against top QB's. His philosophy is cover over the top make the QB throw underneath if our guys don't win on the line. Against decent QB's they usually have a completion streak that's in the double digits. It's shocking how simple our rush is and I'm just proud of these guys because they bail out his simple defense.

This Eagles Defense had 70.0 sacks that season, 3rd most team sacks in a single season in NFL history. Only behind the 1989 Vikings and the 1984 Bears. Now, 70 sacks team sacks is far more impressive today than it was back in the 80s because of the strict rules put on defenses today. If this Eagles D played under 80s NFL rules, they possibly could've had 100 team sacks

This D line was a beast even better than the 89 team of Buddy's D line of Reggie, Clyde, Jerome, and Mike, Reddick is a beast off the edge, great super free agent signee by Howie, and Jason Hargrave is the best pass rushing DT in the NFL, should be an investigation that he didn't get voted as an NFC starter in the pro bowl and Sweat is a beast at DE! Should have made the pro bowl also hope he's back for the playoffs for real if Gannon would blitz more too the Birds would average having 10 sacks a game they were an entertaining watch this season, so close to getting the all time sack season record, hope this pass rush carries the Eagles to another Super Bowl title!
That 89 defensive line was definitely better. Mr. White was unstoppable on the end and Mr. Brown would collapse the pocket so you couldn't run up the middle and Mr. Simmons could get the Quarterback from the other side. This team has more depth and that's the difference so they stay fresher for longer periods of time.

As a Niners fan that hadn't really paid any attention to the Eagles or their season I had to come here to see
what we're going to be up against. 70 sacks is fucking incredible! Without really looking into the Eagles or
the season they had I was just assuming we could run it down their throats and our defense would do the
rest but god damn. This is going to be a crazy NFC title match! One thing I do know for sure! If the 49ers
play against the Eagles the same way they played against Dallas the 49ers will end up losing the game!
I'm actually happy that Brock Purdy finally struggled a bit against Dallas. It allows him to come back down
to earth and hopefully correct some issues this week in hopes to eliminate some of the mistakes he made
against Dallas against the Eagles. Without paying attention to the Eagles this year, I honestly just assumed
they were an overrated team that would choke in the playoffs but now I'm a bit nervous! Whoever ends up
winning the turnover battle with most likely win this game! The teams are similar in many ways! Should be

Reddick is so relentless and, based on his numbers, should be D player of the year.
Everyone talked about how our last team that made it to the SB (and won it) was built for the future, but I just didn't feel right about it. Wentz didn't start in that incredible playoff run, nor did he win those games. Hopefully we will win it all again, and if we do, I think that this team has a much better chance at sustained success moving forward. Heck, regardless of whether we win or not.

Hassan Reddick Brandon Graham Josh sweat the big boys in the middle our linebackers and when we bring pressure from the secondary listen we need to be aggressive and go after the quarterbacks cuz we had the potential to really bring pressure like our ends in every passing situation are getting home or getting very close are tackles can get to the quarterback as well if we can be just a little more aggressive in our schemes with blitz packages every time a quarterback drops back we could have a guy on them I mean almost that's my only problem again and he's just not aggressive look at all the talent on this defense I mean I could be the DC give me Hassan Reddick and Fletcher Cox Brandon Graham sweat hargrave I mean the list goes on and on and wait until they break out our boy the linebacker from Georgia he flies around the field it's time to bring him in it's time to go win the Superbowl
