The Reebok Avant Garde Returns
Mid-90s basketball belonged to Reebok. The brand, who had Allen Iverson, Shaquille O’Neal, and Shawn Kemp all wearing the ‘Bok, could do no wrong. But aside from their signature wears, their run-of-the-mill releases were some of the most popular sneakers around; the Ice Pick, the Kamikaze, the Blast, the Mobius and the Avant Garde all loved by hoopers the world over. And while we’ve seen retros of most of the aforementioned pairs - even a remodeled Mobius Experiment 3 by way of Pyer Moss - the Avant Garde has remained absent from a retro since its 1996 release.
A RETRO BASKETBALL STYLE THAT'S STILL A STEP AHEAD
In the '90s, the Avant Guard was worn by basketball point guards who liked to hustle. With a casual low top design, a big Vector graphic and wavy lines on the sides, the standout style feels fresh for today's streets. The shoes are made of textured nubuck and synthetic leather.

Debuted in 1996, the Reebok Avant Guard came to the basketball scene together with the similar-looking Reebok Icepick. Never associated with any player as a signature sneaker, the Reebok Avant Guard made it to the hardwood anyways, for example during the NBA All-Star Game, or on the feet of Clyde Drexler for a Reebok commercial. The bulky sneaker celebrates its return after more than 20 years.
