I'm coming from a mixed Catholic - Orthodox background. My Catholic relatives have been very religious, church going people. There have been nuns, priests and church musicians among them. When I was young I was absolutely indifferent to Orthodoxy and the only connection I had was the fact I was baptised Orthodox as a child. Although not being very religious, I absolutely loved Catholic church and was often to masses, weddings and baptisms. I was like one inch close to converting to Catholicism.
Getting older I've become more and more into Orthodoxy. It's traditional, raw, mystical, spiritual, kind and there's nothing more sublime than the Holy Orthodox liturgy.
I still have got a great respect and the deepest feelings for the Catholic church and it's followers, but I'm finally happy being Orthodox myself.

Greetings, my beloved begotten sister/brother! I have some feedback if that's okay. I'd like to say that we as people are so glad that you have converted to Orthodoxy. I so agree it's much more traditional and pretty much more experienced than anything else. That's because it's connected to the Julian calendar (it's old style, but it's the truth) which is a lot better than the Catholic Gregorian calendar (modern-day people celebrate) that my personal opinion is not very truthfully celebrated and not very old style either(old style Julian calendar - either ancient, but has more experience and is blended with Orthodoxy - the traditional way to celebrate the best Orthodox holidays) you know that in Greek it translates to "Prawoslawye"? This is why in the Southern East countries, there are countries that are part of the Balkan. The Balkans are countries, located in the South East(Europe) where many of the population in there who are in it are called Slavic people. Over the past years, history has been one of the top main traditions and cultures from which we adapted today. Bulgaria, one of the Balkans, (next to the Black Sea borders) has one of the largest History in the whole of Europe (probably in the world too), and it's placed the second best mineral baths(in the world?) In the whole continent. As a Bulgarian person, if we ever have been asked how much big is either our history, culture, tradition (etc), oh my, it's going to be, a never-ending topic! Not only in Bulgaria but also in the whole Balkan municipality too! There's Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Croatia- one of my beloved countries that has one of the most amazing cultures and traditions ever recorded. My apologies for not providing more information, as because of that will be probably one of the longest comments ever, but if you'd like to dig deeper into our Balkan world, you are always free to explore and learn about the amazing story of, Slavic people, one of the most amazing countries in the whole world.. ()may God bless you with grace and hope, and remember, Jesus loves you. ❤️ Toddles!~

10:04 fun fact is that Orthodox people rearly sit while praying. It's an exaggeration to say "it happens more" because 99% people stand during prayers (even most of children) even for hours. The thing is that Orthodox churches do have some chairs benches, but they are generally used by old or sick people while the prayer is going on but they are placed near the walls while most of the actual church is empty (for people to stand) with the middle part usually having the icon of the sait of the church (this can vary). Everything here obviously varies from region to region (im personally from Serbian Orthodox region) but it looked like a fun detail to mention here
Great video btw, really enjoyed it

I don't think that part of this video was very well presented. There are people who call themselves Catholic, but have even been to an extent excommunicated or barred from receiving Holy Communion, such as some politicians who push anti-Christian things, and are called not real Catholics. To refer to a survey of people who call themselves Catholic and then give an answer on a social or political issue, isn't really comparing two religions. What does the Bible say about it? What does the Pope say? What are the teachings of the two churches? And if the video is going to mention a current fad, why not give more of a history, how only in very very very recent years has public opinion swayed a bit, at the moment, to support gay marriage, etc. Perhaps someone will say yes they support it, but some years ago they didn't, and their parents and grandparents don't, who are of the same religion. To look at a snapshot of public opinion (and what self identifying Catholics were surveyed? Just those in the US?) and tell us about the differences between Catholic and Orthodox, in my opinion is not really explaining the differences between the two. It would be like highlighting when someone sins, or is in error, and saying that defines their beliefs. No, that is a sin or an error according to their belief system or their religion.

Fun fact for all fellow Skyrim fans out there: In the Orthodox Church we have a holy place that very much resembles the High Hrothgar and the Greybeards. It's a collection of monasteries on Mt Athos in Greece which we call "The Holy Mountain". There are monks from all around the Orthodox world, and in some monasteries life hasn't changed much since the Byzantine era. Sadly no Shouts, but you can't have everything. But the view from high up on the mountain was something looking like it was straight out of Skyrim.

We should also follow the tradition of fasting on all Wednesdays and Fridays. The Orthodox don't just "think that's what the early fathers believed," we know it. We have receipts lol. The creation of doctrine is well documented. The Nicene Creed read "who proceeds from the father, who together with the father and son is worshipped and glorified." In fact, even the Pope agreed with this and said "this can never be changed," until another pope a couple decades later decided it could.

The filioque, which likely originated in Spain as a defense against Arianism, only became a controversy when members of Charlemagne’s court adopted it and accused the Greeks of heresy for reciting The Creed in its original form. Even the pope at the time thought it was a bad idea to mess with The Creed. The real issue between East and West is the doctrine of papal infallibility and the idea that the pope, by himself, can define church doctrine. The Orthodox are proponents of the conciliar method employed in the great ecumenical councils forming the basis of the faith, where ALL the bishops met, discussed, and adopted doctrine together. It was the presence and collaboration of all the church leaders together which facilitated the holy spirit’s intervention.

The Holy Spirit's intervention, but yes.
The origin of the Roman Catholic Church in its present form is Charlemagne. He established the Holy (no, not hardly) Roman (no, German) Empire (not much compared to the Roman Empire in New Rome - Constantinople). He sought out obscure doctrines (filioque, exotic Redemption theories) and discredited practices (unleavened bread for Holy Communion, unmarried priests) to bring into his church to distinguish it from the Orthodox churches of the east, especially that of the Queen City, Constantinople. He was the reason for the split between East and West.

Funny you should mention that. In the old days, Pepsi's owner realized he was losing out to Coke; and, asked them to buy him out. Coke said 'why should we do that? We're #1! Take a hike!' Years later, 70's or 80's I think, Pepsi hired a genius marketing manager to market Pepsi to the younger, hipper, crowd. Pepsi is now a close 2nd to Coke. Each around 50% of their market share! Oops! And, Coke is the most recognized brand on earth!

The main reason why they got split is because the Roman faction was more focused on dealing with Roman ban to Christianity and once they succeed they realized the Roman catholicism was mainly the Italian peninsula and West Europe, where as Orthodox where more free to mix Christianity with local trsditions in Eurasia. This is why Orthodox have local churches and patriarchs, Greek Orthodox is not the same as Russian Orthodox or Armenian Orthodo, unlike Mexican, Peruvian, Spanish and Polish Catholicism is basically the same. Orthodox were more conservative in Christian beliefs it's true, but they then mixed them with local rituals. Catholics only added some traditions but based on saints or church topics but never mixed or created a new religion

All Orthodox churches follow the same theology, the only different you mean is the language in these churches.
Like a mexican catholic church held liturgy in spanish or a french in french.

You forgot to mention how Constantine moved to the city of Byzantium and named it New Rome, later adopting the name Constantinople where it became the new capital of the Empire further causing a divide between east and west, church and state, Catholic and Orthodox. Both churches wrestle for political influence and power until the fall of the empire.
