I wanted to see how the PlayStation VR headset would react to various video sources including the Xbox One. Turns out that it works... Sort of. The PlayStation VR headset will display an HD video source in a cinema style mode. Of course it won't be a proper VR experience, it's more like sitting in front of a large display. This might be useful to people that are tight for space and want to use the PlayStation VR headset as their main display for various sources.

That's an interesting bit of info. I could even see plugging in the HDMI from my PC for games, movies or web surfing at times. If you have roommates, use the VR and some headphones and not disturb anyone at all.

It'll work with every HDMI input. That's what the breakout box is for - a virtual cinema for every non-vr game.

Prescription safety glasses do exist (and they can look mostly like normal glasses), the differences being the frames have to be ANSI certified, the lenses have to be certified (and have special marks on them to prove it), and they have to have (sometimes removable) side shields.

Hi Lewis, I had watched this video once before, and now I am watching it again.
it got me thinking what are Xbox's plans with VR? it's a space they are lacking, but need to get into.
If it's done right and Xbox can deliver, it will be an amazing experience.
Then there is also the Metaverse, I wonder what Xbox has planned for that if anything.

Xbox doesn't have any interest in VR, but as a nice thing for gamers you can use many headsets like oculus that are compatible with Xbox and play Xbox VR games, there is quite a few in game pass actually 😎

Yes, you can. But it's a lot better to have a good LCD display than PSVR for that. Too blurry.

I have all three and happy with all four gaming platforms. PC, Nintendo Switch, PS 4 Pro & PSVR, And Xbox one original as well the S & X. It's good to be a CZcamsr.

You proved that a PlayStation VR headset will work on an XBOX, but only if you connect a PS4 to it and have it running, only to have the same experience as if I was playing XBOX on my lounge room TV. If the USB is just being used as a power source, then a simple volt regulator might do the trick so you can just plug it in the outlet.

There's something for a good brain to hack. Say capture whatever comms that come out of the PS4 then make up a box that let's yoi connect the USB you have regardless of what device it is from. For his idea we'd just be looking at theatre mode anyway.

Question to those that have this. If I want to play black ops can I simply just play it and it be cinema mode but without having to plug in the cords

I think you can just play in cinema mode by bypassing the little processing unit (HDMI anyway) and plug the PSVR HDMI directly to the PS4.
I will try it out, and also test the connections with the Xbox One where you can
HDMI out from either the PS4/PSVR into onto an external monitor. It should work..

AdamL. The virtual reality does not work (because there are no games that are VR in XBOX) but having a virtual television in front of you is the main idea. It saves space in the place you are living in. So, no. It is not compatible and capable for virtual reality.
no it won't work but i'll tell you this i went to a xbox convention center in Dallas tx on August 2017 and they made a VR for xbox but the Thing cost 499 but the cool thing was we played future games this new madden type game and this rpg game we played at the Con for the VR xbox

I don't own a ps4 but would save people a lot of money and maybe an incentive to purchase the PlayStation VR vs the oculus/vive if it could be used on the PlayStation as well as PC. Doubt many people would pay £400 for PlayStationVR then another £600 or £800 for a PC headset.
I am already using a generic VR headset $200 two PS3 Eye cams and two Playstation Move wands for my PC as hand tracking. Total cost $260 GG

so is it basically the steam vr mode where you are in a large theater and there is a large screen and you can look around in the theater or something or is the headset in a fixed position and the screen is always in front of you no matter what?
since the xbox controller works on a modified version of wifi _technically_ you can stream video, therefore vr could be a thing

This isn't true. Sure all usb is 5v but the USB is not for powering the psvr, it uses a standard wall charger for the processor and the USB is used to communicate data such as cinema mode, screen size, brightness, and transfer the microphone audio. Does not work with any USB. The cinema mode only works because the ps4 tells the headset to display the image that way.
Would this also work with any PS4 game.

No sure if this has been discussed, but are you able to change the depth of the image? Maybe I won't want to sit in front of a huge projection where I have to move my head to see like a mini map. Of course I'll enjoy big screens watching and playing certain games but sometimes I enjoy my 24" asus monitor vs my 40" tv.
