looks like a fun car
The drive train on the RS mk3 does sap a lot of power, plus they suffer from drag at high speed, I have a 400bhp st mk 4 and it’s the same at high speed, these cars are great fun though, and this car is still going 165mph! Which is very impressive

Which engine faults? There was the head gasket issue which was blown out of proportion but actually affected a small number of cars and a recall was made. What else?

wich is a big issue in fact for the engine's head if not rectified properly or replaced
Even so it still appears to suffer from bad cooling
Some also said they broke cylinder head screws plus the fact that this engine never made the power he was supposed too.
Despite the fact that his base ils apparently (correct me if i'm wrong) the same as old mazda's 2.3 260hp, he is a lot less tuning friendly. I felt in love when this focus came in 2016 even though he was slower than mk7 golf r and than all his competitors
@@darochachristophe184 only a small proportion of cars had the head gasket problem, it was nowhere close to entire years of production. I think it was a few hundred cars in total.
The cooling isn't sufficient for prolonged track use, I agree, but at least it got track use warranty.
Power also seems to be overrated, yes, but this isn't exactly an engine issue. It's probably because of the complicated AWD system which introduces high drivetrain losses. I suspect it's a combination of both though, I find it kinda hard to believe that the drivetrain robs something like 80HP.
Honestly the only thing you really need to take care of with this car is to buy an oil cooler if you're going to the track frequently. To be honest that's something you should do with basically all cars in its class, especially from that era.
Oh and to be honest I liked this car when it launched too, just like you. I was pretty serious about buying one but it seemed like the suspension is pretty harsh for daily driving.

My dad and I bought a Focus RS just before Christmas last year for my mum and the guy we bought it said it had been "played with" 400awhp is not what i'd consider merely "played with"

Accelerating in high speeds the aero at this car comes into importance as it has a very bad drag coefficient, that´s also why it may feel slow on the speedo at this claimed power level.
That reminds me of another youtuber's car, his name is JackUltraMotive, go check him out, cause he had a focus rs but he dosen't have it anymore, plus his was white and not blue but it still reminds me of his, cause his was also tuned like that.
Its a fine car indeed... but that is definitely not 420 hp, maybe 350, 370 max

@@blackwidow7804 no, it's the AWD system. It's a really good system, but also rather complicated and has lots of drivetrain loss as a result.
This isn't the first RS which is tuned to '420hp' yet looks slow. I suspect they dyno the car in 'dyno mode' which seems to decouple the rear axle completely, thus making it look like there's more power to the ground than there actually is.
They seem to hit a wall at that speed i was running this power with fully forged engine hybrid turbo etc it was tough to hit book speed handled really well but like the scoobs not designed for top speed long runs
All I want is for a car to pass my way🙃

@@milanpavlovic2142 Wie kommst du eigentlich auf die 420PS? Wurden die mal auf dem Prüfstand gemessen? Was wurde an dem Auto alles gemacht? Die Ecoboost-Motörchen streuen ja teilweise arg nach unten. Teilweise drücken die gerade mal nur 300 PS.
Ansaugung downpipe llk und stage 2 gemessen serie 332ps/444nm mit der stage 2 Software gemessen auf 2 verschiedene prüfständen 418ps/622nm
Doesn't feel like it has 620nm of torque for some reason.
Der MK3 RS ist ein schönes KFZ was ich auch gern hätte aber der Motor ist eine Katstrophe in Serie und optimiert auf vielleicht 380PS gerade so gut wie er mit 350 sein sollte.

This car has intake air temp issues or more thermal problems where the ecu limits power if that is a cheap 420 software only mod

I’m an owner of a mk3 focus RS with 400 bhp and while I do think it’s slow for its power, I have beaten m140i’s and mapped golf R’s. Mine does also seem quicker so maybe this one isn’t actually 420?
Its because of the long gears it sounds/feels slow. But the turbo bar indicator seems to be at 75% all the time... So its tuned allright... Its more a fun car than a car to drive on the autobahn...

419/623 last week on 2 diferent dynos 11.0 100-200 is good for the car all rs are slow 👍🏼

Because of slow shifting
All focus rs’s are slow for their power. They weigh as much as a boat and suffer from severe transmission/drivetrain loss. My stage 2 st mk3 is nearly on par with this 😂

My stage 3 fiesta st with 310hp at the time kept up w a 400hp rs so this should be around the 400mark
@@user-yk6iq2cn5t I used to have a z20leh swapped big turbo mk4 gsi. 430bhp. Had 344bhp per tonne, it used to absolutely laugh at e60 m5s. They’ve only got about 290bhp per tonne. But yeah my point is this is very slow for 400+bhp. My old gsi would’ve made this look like it was going backwards. What torque was your st? Mines 555nm (410lbft) but it is a focus

A small proportion of cars were affected and a recall has been issued. I don't get why some of you people blow this issue out of proportion.
@@xIcarus227 I‘ve been interested in buying this car during its first two years. At least in my country Ford insisted it wasn‘t their fault even though there were many cases… they handled it terribly, just like the blown entines of the GT350 which I was interested in as well. Oh and let‘s not forget the blown engines in the V6 broncos. I just have a hard time trusting Ford nowadays. Instead of the Focus RS I got a GR Yaris and instead of the GT350 I got a C63 6.2L (to be fair this is a bit of a risky one as well)
@@sveeny that's fair, Ford have been pretty nasty with those things. I'd even add the whole Powershift fiasco, what a mess.
Cant see the point of top speed runs unless you have a higher rev limit. A 250bhp Focus st has the same top speed.
