Here it is, finally! This is the first Q&A video that we made together with Timo. We talk about the history of Loituma, about our studies at the Sibelius Academy (the music university in Finland) and about inspiration and motivation that surrounded us.
The story here is not complete or perfect, but there will be a chance to ask more and talk more. There are a lot of questions that we needed to leave out, but on the other hand there are many extra things here that nobody asked. =) So, I hope you'll have fun listening to Timo and me.
I'm aware of the technical mistakes, but you'll get the idea, I hope. For the next video we know much more, again. That's when we are going to talk about Ievan polkka. =)
The questions / subjects:
0:18 How did Loituma get started?
3:08 Did you have any other groups or a musical career before Loituma?
3:47 Which moments of Loituma’s life are the most interesting or memorable to you?
5:08 Some words about our albums
6:34 Who inspired you to make music?
8:32 About motivation and inspiration
9:40 Does Loituma have another song?
10:10 Have you concidered making your music available digitally?
10:20 Does Loituma have a plan to make a show in Brazil or visit Russia?
10:40 Did you ever think about representing Finland in Eurovision?
Filming and recording by Timo and Hanni
Editing by Hanni
Everyone aged like fine wine!
Better with age
Pol Pol
Even looking at the thumbnail makes me happy
finnish accents in spoken english are so unique and awesome sounding
Loituma needs to be available on Apple Music. Can’t wait to play some Ievan Polka full blast while cruising down the street! 👌🏼
While even people my age are a bit attractive to me, I am totally in love with a person who is 30 years older than me. Loituma members get sexier as they get older.
=)
Like wine and cheez?
Wow, matey, hold your horses ;)
Finland is the happiest country because of people like you..
"... plus the others we didn't record"... I will add my hope to others that one day we may have a third CD to enjoy :)
This was so nice to watch, would love to see more videos like this, and also with the other Loituma members! 😄
I like your feeling, it's for that I come here !
Love the 90s style editing.
This is the best I could do. I'm not an editing professional. =)
@@HanniAutere it is great though. I'm looking forward to the next Q&A session.
We need more of this! Awesome content! You will be very welcome in Brazil!
"Yes we did but Lordi went there, and won" xDD so dry, lovely ^^
=D
What a coincidence, I was listening to Ievan Polkka when I came across this video ^^
Hello Mrs Hanni, I am a Chinese music lover who likes to play flute and dj. Twelve years ago, when I was in primary school, I began to pay attention to Loituma vocal group, especially like the leva's polka. I sincerely hope the band can come to China to perform or hold open vocal lessons. I also u can have a good health forever.
love from India!!! I am just 15 years old...but i thn also i was attracted towards this iconic song...and i felt like deja vu after listening the real song....LOVE UH LOITUMA!!!!!!
THNX FOR THE HEART!!!
Am I the only one who thinks Timo is really cute?
No girl even I have a huge crush on himm
He has this very polished aura about him that I believe draws people in and of course he's just a good looking gentleman who's very talented 😁❤️
Loituma is still my relaxation and meditation music. Whether I'm wandering around the forests, doing some stretches, or I just need to step away from my mind for a moment into music, Loituma soothes me. The Kantele is such a beautiful instrument and your violin work brings me great joy. Plus, the vocals from all of you are sublime.
Much love from Canada, Hanni and Timo
How great to see this.✨😻 My childhood, my early teenage years were spent listening to your Ievan Polkka.🌿 And today I still listen with great love. (I'm not neglecting to sing it when my tongue rounds.🙃) There is no other song that makes me so happy and at the same time bursting with memories.💟 And every time I see you, I feel so happy again. One of my dreams since childhood is to listen to you live.🌼I hope it happens one day.🍀 Thanks a lot, all of you.😇
Thanks for this Q&A. And I have to say, you are a beautiful woman, Hanni :)
=)
You've inspired me to learn more about Finnish folk music since 2014! Thank you for reaching out to international fans :)
This was a delight to watch. Would you maybe do a video with Anita or Sari?
I'll see what I can do about that. =)
I admire you both for speaking English, instead of Finnish, for the audience. English is not an easy language to those who do not speak it as their first language (myself included). Kiitos for this Q&A session!
Hanni,i love you singning, kiss from Brazil 🇧🇷
Thank you! So nice to hear Timo’s voice as well, finally :D And really interesting video on the beginnings, kiitos!
You guys are very cool and love to see and hear your private stuff!
This is gonna be amazing, Can't wait for this
She is soooo beautiful, talented and interesting, i love her!
=)
It became available at lunch time so I couldn't watch earlier. But here I am. Thanks, Hanni and Timo
I'm really looking forward to this.
Great to listen your beginning story and about your inspiration.
Love from Greece ❤️.
He's still so handsome
Loituma's music was like a wonderful signal from outer space for me. It is absolutely charming and magic but in the same time is absolutely enigmatic and mysterious. Who does play it? What is it about? There were no answers. Glad to find your channel to discover something about Loituma.
By the way, Finnish are very musical people. Your rock bands are super! One of my favorite is "Amorphis".
And of course I like "Loituma" very much :-) .
I can't wait for this!
Over the past two months, I have become pretty much addicted to Finnish Folk music. It is such a beautiful language and the meaning of some songs really hit deep for me. That's why about 1 week ago I started to learn Finnish on my own. Progress is very slow but it is progress none the less. For one day, when this whole Corona stuff is over, I want to visit Finland.
I had one question for you though: Is there a way for me to buy your CD 'Things of Beauty' somewhere? Or perhaps download it? I would very much like to add your CD to my music collection!
Anyway
thanks in advance!
your music is amazing!
That's very cool that you are studying Finnish! We're answering your question on this video. =)
@@HanniAutere Your music will be available online soon?!
I'm already looking forward to that!
Yay.... Finally after a long break, both looks good together.
=) =)
I can't wait!
I love you guys more than you can imagine ❤ it was wonderful 😍😍
Now there still two left to make questions with please Sari and Anita
I'll see what I can do. =)
@@HanniAutere ❤ thank you, you are amazing
This is was amazing. Thank you
Do you still perform together? Are you a functioning Band? Do you have other jobs? Is it sufficient to live off Loituma or your individual music careers or must you supplement your income in another way?
We perform only occasionally, we no longer work officially as a band. Most of us live as music professionals, performing and teaching. =)
@ThatItalianTeacher Well, we have some ideas with Timo. We'll see which of them could come true. =) But yeah, we live in different towns and have our separate jobs. But we are still friends. And we considered making a concert next spring. =)
Omg I am so excited ❤
Yayy!! Soo looking forward to it😁
Nice
Just wanted to say thank you for your version of Levan Polkka. It’s beautiful...found it on YT by accident. So glad I did 😀
I actually really love the audio-mixing approach you took of having each speaker's vocals come from their side of the screen! It looks like you recorded all the audio mono, then panned the audio to the speaker's respective side, adding some reverb and muddiness to the opposite direction? Regardless, more videos in this style ought to do that - definitely helps improve clarity.
Pol guy legend ...Its great to know more about him. Great Q/A but pretty short 🤣👍🎵...🇨🇱🇫🇮 Chile loves you guys....keep doing your magic
great video and great answers and good people 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻♥♥♥♥♥♥
I am very excited for this 😊
Thanks CZcams for bringing me here right after rewatching the original Ievan polkka !
Even though i understand no single word of it but still makes vibe 😅
Sending love to you from Iraq 🇮🇶
Lucky me that you're still here in this life while I'm here in my early 20s ... Hopefully we meet someday .
Timo, Hanni, hello from Russia!
Great to see you 2 together Hanni Mam ❤️
Love from India 🇮🇳
Don't worry I'm also here
Please also make a Qna video with Anita!
Great to hear you guys! Thanks for a nice time.
Thanks mam for the sweet memories 💓
I cannot wait :)
I am so excited!! :)
Wow it has been a pleasure to see you, very talented people who have my admiration ... And I don't know why I feel a strong attraction to Celtic music .. Greetings from Honduras, distant friends..
so glad that i found this channel, still look great! brilliant songs!
Omgggggg. I love finland 🇫🇮
@Kalle Halme Iam from czech. But iam plainning to visit or live in Finland.
@Kalle Halme Well, now iam not in czech.
Hanni, you're so beautiful on every level. And Timo....just seems more handsome every day. I really think your music is absolutely timeless. It would be great if we will be able to buy it all digitally....so I can have the proper versions of all your songs, plus I want to show my support to you guys.
Love from Moldova🇲🇩❤❤
Waiting eagerly!!!
This was fun and very lovely. Thank you for making it and speaking in English due to not as many people would understand Finnish. I hope you guys make some other videos as the 4 of you or as Loituma and maybe if you planning to have another video make sure to include Anita and Sari cause I would love to hear their real voices too as I just did yours in this video. Again thank you so much and I'm looking forward to seeing hopefully all 4 of you more in the near future. 😘😊💗👍👏
Well, it's a bit challenging to get all of us for a video recording, since we live far apart. Also, we don't really work together anymore.
@@HanniAutere OK, I guess. As you said you are all friends and keep in touch and I was just wondering as you did your famous Polka song maybe even like on skype or zoom or something like that could be done. Not now but in the future or when you aren't so busy finding a 15-20 minute time. I mean it's no secret but I did become a big fan of all 4 of you. Also, just knowing you reply to my comments makes me humble cause I know you read what I wrote. Little things make me and some others happy too I guess. Live far apart? Well, I'm smiling a little cause my new home after I defected in 85 is Canada. The world's second-largest country. I have friends in Montreal and I live in the west end of Toronto and we just say just come by or come over on the weekend and it's like 600 Km 1 way. So to me here is relative what is far. I mean just in this Province of Ontario if I leave toward the west no matter how or what I drive you can't get to the next province in 1 day or 24 hours of driving. I did once 21 hours and 1700 Km. lol. This is what I mean I smiled when you said far apart. This past summer I drove 3 provinces over to Alberta and it took me 3 days. 3400 Km. It would be 4 hours on the plane. Anyhow, I'm sorry for being too long just came out a little funny that's all. If you guys ever come to Toronto I would definitely be going to see you guys. Thanks for your response and all the best to all of you!😘😄🤗👍💖
Great interview! It'd be very interesting to hear an interview with Anita. So excited like many people here to look forward it!
Yes, I know many people are waiting for that, but I think Anita is not very eager to come in front...
Amazing! Please go to ESC! I'll vote for you. And I love the way you are pronouncig the finnish words. Sounds for me like "Loituuuuuma". Well, the upper Bavarian dialect has probably much more riddles (for non-native speakers), sayings an proverbs :) . Must listen to this song again and again! "Salivili hipput tupput tapput" :) . It's the perfect earworm. After Corona I think I'll visit Finnland, have never been there. And please do another remake, a cappela, disco, Techno version or whatever. JUST PLEASE DO IT! :)
Did you guys know I'm a 9 year old and still can sing ievan polka? Here'a the lyrics:nuapurista kuulu se polokan Tahti jalakani pohji kutkutti/jutkutti
Ievan aiti (idk??? But still can sing it!)
This would be so cool!
ver este video después de ver a Loituma interpretando a Ievan Polkka es una locura
Love Loituma! Best wishes from Hungary.❤️
I can't wait =)
198686 OMG the year I was born... and when I watched the song I was like how pretty she is I meant how pretty Hanni is. Internet is an amazing place. God bless you and your team. Love and respect forever.
just discovered your channel today, great vocals and finding out the story :)
I knew nothing about this Q&A session, it just popped up on CZcams, but it was definitely exciting. Ievan Polkka was extremely popular in Russia when I was a teenager, about 20 years ago, although I guess you might have grown bored with it. I have read a lot of comments and other bits of information about it and I've listened to other versions of it that came out prior to yours. Yet I have a question. Why did you decide to cover this song? And why did you choose to make an acapella version? Thanks
Just wait, there's another video about Ievan polkka. =)
Brazil loves you
Yes, we do.
Hi, great video, so interesting :D
Will you ever release unpublished songs? I listen to amazing Kuutamolla and Things of Beauty songs every day, but I would love to hear something new from you :D It would be awesome :)
We'll see. =)
Reminder on
Love this!
wow kuuntelin Loituma haha on kiva nähdä teitä vain vuosi sitten - rakkautta Tampereelta ❤
It's very interesting that your name comes from the lake name, as majority of european hydronyms comes from finno-ugric languages that back then were spread all over europe. So the biggest river in my country for example, Vistula comes from "vis" which means just "water".
So metaphorically and literally speaking, your name just like every other european hydronym flows through every part of europe just like your music flows through the veins of europeans.
=)
Great video see you soon Hanni!!!
Thank you so dear Hanni and Timo.
Fantastic video. Thank you!
Great and super interesting Q&As! I also really like how you edit your videos :)
Thanks! May I ask, what is it that you like in my editing? =) Just qurious...
@@HanniAutere I really like how and when u switch the scenes and your usage of cuts :)
@@clemi5051 OK. Thanks! I just wish I had better equipment for doing this... =)
@@HanniAutere There is a good video editor called Adobe Premier Pro, just a suggestion.
@@thesmartnerd732 I've thought about trying Final Cut Pro.
