@@theutgardianchannel1952 Not that simple, basically in this genre of music you have to divide a bass performance into 2-3 tracks, high cut one at around 200-300, low cut another at around the same, apply different amount of comps to them, and then apply saturation to the top end of the low cut track, then cut out the junks (3-5khz) that you don't need.
I tried numerous, numerous times to try to get close to this, I can get 90% there, but that last 10% is so elusive to capture - guess that's in Mos' performance.

Ok, so here's my 2 cents...
I accidentally discovered TesseracT with "Altered State" and I fell in love with the album. Tried their older stuff and wasn't feeling it as much as "Altered State". I simply love Ashe's voice and lyrics better than Dan's. However, I admit I decided to give this album a try, and the more I listen to it, the more I like it. I'm starting to view TesseracT like many of their long time fans... Each album should be judged on its own and not compared to other albums. Each album is a different/separate project with its own distinct sound or "flavor" and appreciate it for what it is on its own.

I cant stop listening to this album, Tourniquet is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard, brings a tear to my eye. Its been about 15 years since I really paid any attention to metal in all honesty, the genre was sort of dead to me.
I think the vocals, the lack of solos, the attention to bass and rhythm, this sound just transcends everything that was wrong with metal for me. Some kind of universal artistic beauty to it, like abstract sculpture it seems to speak a very fundamental language thats beyond any particular genre of music, or even music itself. I think any art that can shake off the trappings of the moment and resonate with you on that raw and candid a level is a rare thing to be cherished.
Well done for joining Mike Patton on the 'metal can still be interesting' bench, that was a lonely looking bench in my musical world for a good while there.

+Nuno Dias I must disagree. I started to listen Tesseract after hearing Altered State. It's different from Polaris in almost every possible way but still unique and beautiful. in fact, even though I love Dan and know that everything he participates in instantly turns to gold,I thought that Ashe was a better fit for Tesseract and Dan was perfect for Skyharbor. That is of course until I heard Polaris. Ashe has a beautiful voice, he is a master of harmonies and all but god damn Danny... The best part of it all is that now we have Tesseract with Dan, Eric Emery (another brilliant artist) in Skyharbor and Ashe in VFTF. I could not want anything more...well maybe except a tour with all three of those bands. that would be a dream come true:)

I cannot begin to express how great they are live. When they played Phoenix, I couldn't contain my emotions. Tears were running down my face as I sung as loud as I possibly could. They're technical masters live. Not a single beat was missed. Every note was nailed. The light show was perfectly synced.
They placed in a venue that's notoriously known for having terrible sound and acoustics, from where I'm from. They even defied those odds. I forgot where I was because their sound was impeccable. I've been a fan of Tesseract for quite some time, and I admit that before my first time seeing them live, I began to listen to other bands more than them. I have listened to One, AS, and Polaris so many times and it was losing a bit of magic. After seeing them live, my love for them has never been stronger. Hearing the soaring power and emotion of each song live was something I will never forget. I'm just rambling at this point. I just came here to say that Tesseract has solidified themselves as my favorite band ever in my 26 years of living.

it would take less time to make an equalizer algorithm than to animate something like this manually; they're arbitrary, look at any sound wave graph and then define a series of rules like : 'when volume reaches x, play 'large pulse' animation; when frequency is between some range of numbers, animate in this direction; when pitch/volume/temp/[some property] has value/has change in value/[some event] etc. then hook it up to some front end library

+Brendon stacey I disagree with both you and Jody. Not that Altered State isn't better than Polaris, it is. In fact, NO album, in last who knows how many years, comes close to the perfection that is Altered State. Quite possibly the only flawless album I've ever heard.
Polaris is amazing, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't touch Altered state, and here's where I disagree with Brendon, not because Dan did poorly, or that he could do better. No. Dan sang his heart out in this record, and I couldn't be more amazed and mesmerized by what he's done. In fact, I'd say Dan is the strongest Tesseract member on this album. The reason why Polaris isn't as good as Altered State is somewhat eluding me. Objectively it is brilliant, as groovy and melodic as anyone could hope for and expect from Tesseract, but it just doesn't strike the same emotional strings as Altered State does, for me mind you. This is a completely subjective and personal opinion.
If Jody really likes this album best, I take that as a good news, a reassurance that Tesseract has not only kept the edge and originality they showed us before, but are obviously pushing it further!

Got to agree +allcartuner . I think they've taken the root sound of Altered State, which isn't a bad thing per se, but they've not taken it in a new direction or as far. There are a few gems like Messenger, and overall I think it finishes strongly. It just isn't the same wall to wall amazement that Altered State was (and it might be a high bar to reach again).

I do put Polaris as my #1 TesseracT album, but Altered State is definitely a very close #2.

+Michał Zbrzeźniak I really love this. But I aggree... Its momments like the ending of Seven Names that evoke most emotion and pleasure into me when listening to Tesseract. And I just feel like Altered State had more of "these moments" even One too. Still, this is great.

Love altered state but it has one or two weak tracks making it not a perfect album I feel like dan is more consistent but ashe has his moments that blow you away but is pretty unpredictable whether or not your going to get something good. I mean listen to the new voices from the fuselage album ashe sounds good in some parts but he sounds very mediocre in others his just not consist

For me, Altered State remains the best TesseracT's album yet. Polaris has its good moments too, of course (I simply love "Seven Names" and I think it's the high point of the album). I'm not going to compare Ashe and Dan because I love both. What I really miss in Polaris is this sense of continuity that "One" and "Altered State" had while listening to them. Polaris has for me too much different feelings: for me it's too fragmented! Gonna listen more and I know, it will grow with the time.

+Mirco “Renkse” Marinelli I find it interesting reading what people have to say about the album. Lucky for you, I can't pick a god damn favourite album from these guys! >.

I sat in my chair still, covered in my blanket with my eyes closed as I let the melody resonates in my head. What a brilliant and well produced album. I honestly did not think Daniel Tompkins could front two bands and still had this level of passion. His flames burn bright. Bravo!!

I first listened to TesseracT in 2014 and heard Altered State and fell in love it and I heard the other albums they had and it was magical to me but... Polaris is probably the album that everyone needs to listen because this album truly shows what they do and who they are. It's a combination of literal and figurative lyrics, groovy and sad, depressing and joyful, progressive and groovy, metal and rock, makes you feel like YOU ARE the person in the songs like you can relate to the lyrics to a deep and emotional way especially Utopia how it makes you feel depressed and everyone of us has gone through depression but many people has feel like they aren't worth a life and those people, sadly I use to be one of them, can relate the most to this song but as you get through the song it gets groovier but still depressing, but at the end you feel a sense of hope like once you start realizing things and live through things these things do get better and how the next song is Phoenix hmm what a convenient placement of that song, how it's about people who feel like how Utopia is, they are a failure and not worth a life but at the same time this song gives you a sense of hope throughout the song and how there are people who are with you and can help you, and you realize that you must change how you live your life to end this sense of hopeless and how it's always going to get better at the end of that period of your life, this album really helped me through a tough time in my life and I can never thank TesseracT more because of how they've helped me. If you have a different interpretation of a song or this album in general feel free to reply to this comment.

I feel like Tesseract is the second coming of Tool. I mean that in a good way, and I don't mean that they sound like Tool because obviously they have their own unique sound. I mean the way they craft their songs, the otherworldly feel of it. The way they combine the darkness and the light. Theres something very special about this band, something I cant quite put into words. Maybe its the sophistication of it, the extreme attention to detail, the soaring vocals. Things Ive always associated with Tool.
