@@dolurosu from what I've read there was a case in 2019 where the victim died and the perpetrator was sentenced to 20 years - but there's no consistent punishment for swatting where no one is injured or killed, it's essentially 'you may be fined $1000 and/or face a prison sentence'
It also takes police away from doing their real jobs, to follow up on fake calls. And they have to treat every call like it could be serious; every second can matter in life or death situations.
I've heard that it's prosecuted as assault w/ a firearm b/c the caller is essentially putting things in motion which will result in the target-victim end up w/ a firearm (carried by a police officer) being pointed in their face. It's not attempted murder b/c it's not clear that the caller is intending to kill the target or simply trying to scare them...

If I were a steamer and had the money, I would reinforce the doors so they can't be busted down easily by a battering ram. Doing this can prepare you to get your family to safety. Installing cameras in the front and back of the house and also any sides is also important to have battlefield awareness.

Well they probably used VPN and VOIP. Hopefully they can figure out who it was.
@@godtiermullet Well, some of the VPN’s say they don’t keep logs. If that was true, using a VPN as in like an onion or double, or tripple VPN cannot be traced without those logs. That is how hackers get away with shit they use proxies as well. Even though proxies keep logs but are limited. But yes, a VPN that doesn’t keep logs cannot be traced. It is very very rare that it is. But it is impossible to know if a VPN truly doesn’t keep logs or taps your connection. For instance, I connect to multiple secure proxies and from those proxies I connect to multiple VPNs. Good luck tracing me. I watch Mutahar when it comes to this stuff, he knows his shit.

These are the types of people who fail to seek out entertainment and success in their own lives. So, they think it is amusing to try to ruin another person's life that they do not even personally know. You dont seem to understand that the police are a reactionary force. When you dial 911, we are reacting. When seconds count, the police are minutes away. You leave investigations for detectives when you have TIME, calls that actually happen, and believe me calls like these that are not false flags do happen, you dont have time. You get out, make contact, and play it better safe than sorry. Were not gonna spend 20 minutes tryna figure if the call is legit because if it is and someone dies, guess what, then police are to blame for not reacting quick enough..perhaps you should wear the badge to educate yourself on these things.

The only way to determine that it's not real is to go check, and the only way to check safely is to be prepared for the possibility that it's real. That's what makes swatting so awful: it's not something that is easily solved.

Don’t have an answer for the first question, but to answer your second question: It’s likely that whoever made the call claimed that he was holding someone hostage, or that he was going to kill someone, etc, this is not a normal response for most calls.
The police in the USA are infamously known for there disproportionate violence towards people both innocent and guilty. Individuals like the person who called this in take advantage of that and the guns blazing attitude most departments have to effectively get someone killed, and that is the goal they ultimately want them killed.
Fact that they have daily mass shootings might have something to do with the police response. Just a hunch.

Swatting is not a thing of the past. The FBI only this year started tracking swatting incidents as their own thing, and estimates are that there are 1,000 or more per year in the United States, as opposed to about 400 per year a decade ago.

Should be a mandatory minimum of 20 years for a swatting, puts everyone involved at the most serious risk they possibly could ever experience. This shit traumatizes people for life. People don't understand once you have your sense of security taken from you, you don't get it back. I'm super thankful things turned out ok for everyone involved. Wich from a European perspective might even be the actual problem, but I don't see that any proscecuter would take that move.
Isn't "false suspicion of a criminal offense" a crime in the US? In Germany this will bring not less than 6 month and not more than 5 years of jail. And 5 years are a lot in Germany, where you basicly don't get more than 10 years beside "Safe custody" (Those guys you can not let out again, it's basicly "lifetime" but a judge will have to look over the state of possibility to resocialisation as rehabilitation is a basic right in Germany.)

They really need to arrest people that do this... this behaviour is only making anonymity seem like a bad thing... they hide behind anonymity while reporting lies to the police that could ruin a family.
Oh Swatting is definitely illegal... big penalties nowadays. But it's catching them that's the problem.
It's a shame every call isn't automatically traced when reporting a crime, I imagine this person would definitely be in cuffs and arrested by now, hopefully it happens soon and the real culprit is found.

They are working on laws at the state and federal level that will increase the penalties for swatting. It's already illegal, but they will make it more illegal soon.

Those kinda calls are no joke and are extremely volatile even if they're fake. I hope the person who reported this fake swat call in gets charged to the full extent of the law. FBI can and will still find you. Don’t think they don’t have the resource.
It depends on the circumstances. While there are many bills proposed wishing to institute a mandatory felony charge as well as a base sentencing, a "simple" swatting call may just yield a misdemeanor charge as a misuse of 911 services, like in my state. That carries a maximum 1 year sentence and $10k fine.
There are special circumstances that can increase the charge, or add charges, such as falsely reporting a school shooter or whatever. Of course if the victim is injured or killed, felony charges can result. First time offenders can get off scott free barring injury or death.
I've never heard of a swatting case ever actually being prosecuted.

I'm always perplexed by what police will and won't respond to. The inverse of swatting happens all the time too. Video evidence gets submitted to police and they just throw their hands up, no can do, and yet we get cases like this.

Luke provided the police with his address, and they broke into his house with lethal weapons ready, terrorized his family, and kidnapped him. LAWYER. Talk to my lawyer is all you say, and then spend the next day or so in a hotel. I'm sorry this happened to you Luke.

I'm truly sorry you, your family, others innocents, and law enforcement staff had to go through that terrible experience. Some people have truly lost any sense of rightness. I actually think of swatting as basically a form of terrorism. There should be zero tolerance and severe penalties for it.

They have to treat any report like it's an actual threat, since they cannot risk failing to act when someone calls in with a genuine emergency. It's not just the police either, it's all the first responders, and thankfully they do. It's insane to me that it's still possible to literally just call the police on someone and initiate a huge armed response with zero evidence that could end someone's life. Before you enter the judicial system and are presumed innocent until proven guilty (at least on paper), your life is completely forfeit to whoever is enforcing the law in your area on that day at that moment. Absolutely bonkers.
Then if it was a real situation and they only sent like one or two cops to check. you would be crying and screaming about how bad the police are for not responding accordingly to a big situation.
The phone call is the evidence what else are they meant get in such a short amount of time? They have to take it seriously.

Especially in the US where guns are everywhere, you'd think they have better protocols, intelligence & info about people making calls like these. In Australia, you have to tell them your full name and info and wait to get verified before they even consider your call. Just crazy

If the police were still concerned for whatever reason, a detective could come over and talked to Luke in person, checked out the house, and gotten Luke's report. All of this kind of behavior, the fact that "swatting" can exist as a terror tactic with something as simple as a "prank" phone call from a random noboby, is a massive violation of peoples rights and their sense of security. And for what? People WERE harmed by this and ppl could have been killed, both civilians, completely uninvolved ones, and also the police themselves, over NOTHING. Actually nothing. Something completely unverified in any way, and the only way they choose to verify it is to mobilize a death squad, even AFTER they are told directly by the person that it was not them, the EXACT SAME amount of information they went on to begin with. Also the fact that the police didn't verify it was your current address or verify the claims of the treat were real before coming to any address is troubling. The fact that it's still so easy to call in a fake threat without having to provide any kind of proof is also troubling. I hope the person who did this is properly charged and punished. I'm so sorry this happened to you and your family. I'm glad no one was physically hurt but it's still psychologically traumatizing. Smh
If someone says "X is harming people at this address right now" you suit up and go. You don't take time to check an address, and even if the person is listed somewhere else nothing prevents them from being at the previous or having a new fake address

When a swatting call is made, the situation reported is usually time sensitive in the extreme where life is being endangered. Imagine an active shooter situation where a gunman managed to obtain an extra 10 minutes of massacre time becaues the cops decided it would be a good idea to verify everything that was going on before telling the swat guys to roll in.
@@andybrown4284If they think there's been a murder in the house, should they approach with holstered weapons and politely knock on the door? The responsibility is entirely on the caller. The SWAT team are just responding tactically like they're supposed to.

But you stayed so calm even though we can all see the pain you are going through, and I can’t imagine the pain your wife must feel. Man I’m so sorry Luke, we were all worried on the live stream. Can’t imagine how your wife is feeling, I know no one was hurt but it’s still stressful and traumatic, I hope she feels better and I sincerely hope they catch the scumbag that did it.
Somehow there was someone in the live stream saying you got swatted, I saw it just after you put the brb screen up, if you can see chat logs maybe look into that, no idea how someone knew so quickly.
It's possible the person in the livestream was just making a guess. It wouldn't be the first time someone who was actively streaming abruptly shut down the stream for something like this. It's not the only reason someone might abruptly shut down and leave, but if you have 100+ viewers speculating it's not shocking if at least one person raises the idea.
