I was going to mention this, also we didn't take EVERYTHING from India, the problem with India is they have the right to not like what we did there but they also grossly over exaggerate what we did, how often it was done and what we took in terms of artfacts and jewels. They claim we owe like 45 trillion or something crazy but even with inflation that's way tomuch, I'm not denying we fucked them over but it wasn't to the extent of what they say.

They themselves were invaded and occupied for a thousand years by,
The Vikings (Scandinavia) The Romans (Italian)
    The Saxons (German)
    The Normans (French)
This might be why they had such a thirst for invasion and conquest.

Many of us Brits accept that the Empire was unjust and massively oppressive. Our biggest advantages were the navy and naval technology. All the plunder and wealth we took helped spark our industrial revolution well ahead of our rivals and that consolidated our power for a long time. As for the American revolution, the truth is that we had almost won that war when our allies, the French, switched sides by being bribed with the gift of huge territories outside the existing states. We later invaded the U.S. and set fire to what is now called the Whitehouse. It was painted white to cover the smoke damage.

But the United States (when it was the thirteen colonies) WERE British. They weren’t oppressed under British rule - they WERE British rule. That is what so many Indian reactors don’t seem to understand. The early expats wanted to be independent so they could continue to take over more Native American land without adhering to the strict British regulations about fair negotiation with the tribes. They wanted to build on it and expand towards the unsettled interior and forge towards the western seaboard in a bid to gain land and financial wealth.

The British did curtail Americans' rights and economic advancement under mercantilist policies. The colonies were never given full representation in the British parliament and could not obtain redress of their grievances from the King. The reasons for wanting to be independent included much more than desire for westward expansion. And by the 1770s, some of the colonists had been living in North America for 150 years -- and not all of them were of British ancestry. The British viewed them as subjects, but by that time, they were culturally distinct as Americans. This country was no longer British and the UK no longer had any legitimacy in ruling it.

Great Britain had the greatest navy in the World, they also had extremely clever businessmen. We brought things to the countries as well as taking things. We brought medicines, railways, education, Christianity (it was not enforced just taught), engineering, sewerage and water supplies, trade with other nations, finally when asked for independence we granted it. Many of these countries would be so backward in today's world that they would be extremely vulnerable. Britain also, helped end Slavery. We added stuff we had to them, trains/parliamentary governance, etc. And we encouraged the countries we created to develop their own cultures Australia, NZ, Sierra Leone, and of course America that suited their own peoples, like the French influence in America. Take India as an example, 200 years and the culture of India is still Indian. Gandhi called it "light touch governance".

We did a lot of bad things and stole from many nations but we also did a lot of good things. We took notes from the Vikings and the Romans and used it to spread an empire, then we took the philosophy from the greeks and exported it around our colonies as democracy. And we did not bring slavery to India as it was active all around the middle east and Africa way before we showed up. The Royal Navy ended slavery too.

This video is a NOT factually correct and the words "aggressively invaded" is a disgrace. That just isn't how or what happened in over 90% of cases. Even the rest were not 'invaded' for reasons of land capture. None of it was a plan, the English and later British state had no plans for an Empire, it was an accident of their own population whom went to trade. It turns out there were no such thing as countries for the most part in the way we know and knew them like England and the UK. So, good business practice turned into governance, not by design, but because in order to create markets, the knowledge had to be shared. The modern world and eradication of global poverty was because of the British, so before anyone thinks this video is fact, they should go and read the [real] history. Every person the British meet to trade with is not an 'invasion'. The Empire always was an accident.

    UK invaded France ?
It was not UK it was England.
And the king Edward III was French, of the Platagenet dynasty.
    How ?
William the Conqueror, he was not a Viking, despite what some English could tell you, his mother was a local Normand woman, of Frankish ascendance, like all Normands were, because Normandy was never colonised entirely by Vikings, in fact most of it was still inhabited by Franks when Rollo obtained the title of Duke from the King of France.
And when William decided to claim his promised throne in england, he raised an army, by calling for volonteers, with the support from the king of France, he had many ironborns from Maine (France),Anjou (France), Flanders (Belgium), and Britanny.
In a noble family only the elder son inherits, the youngest is left with nothing, he is "Ironborn", in history many of these went in campains to gain titles, lands, welth and make a house of their own, well known exemple is Baldwin 1st of Jerusalem.
So when William conquered England, he first started to keep the local nobles in place, (easier, faster) but they never accepted it, and after he got rid/killed most of them, he replaced them with his loyals, an many were of Frankish/french ascendance (Bailleul/Baliol, Taillebotte/Talbot, Montaigu/Montacute, Beauchamp, Beaumont, Beauclerc...)
Fun fact, the name "Disney" comes from a town near Paris called "Isigny" (Comtes D'Isigny = Count Of Isigny).
Then the House of Anjou a French Region, became the rulers of England, it was the Plantagenet Dynasty, they also had the vast region of Aquitaine by marriage, so a big part of the actual France, was in fact ruled by the English Throne, in fact-fact England was ruled by French families.
So when Edward III went to war against the King of France, he didn't invaded France, he took back his family's herritage (Aquitaine, Anjou, Maine, Normandy), lands that had priorly been confiscated by the King Of France.

Thanks for your reaction. It should be noted that trade and the balance of world power were the principle reasons for dominance and conflict. To a large extent the imbalance of power continues through a system of international trade (particularly by multinational companies) with less need for traditional invasion and colonial rule. In this context we should all be acutely aware of the impact of the continuing power imbalance in international trade and the people it impacts (including the poor in advanced economies through unequal wealth distribution)... the elites of all advanced economies are part of this power play including those of India and China. Although I acknowledge the injustices of Britain's colonial past (which is still poorly addressed within the British education), we need to dwell more on the injustices of today (perpetuated by today's advanced economies) so that the cycle of injustice does not continue. Once again, thank you both.

Think also about what we gave to India inc Democracy, steam trains and hundreda of miles of railway lines just to name a few things. Trade was the main reason as was the same for other Countries inc America, Canada, Australia and others. India even though now very rich still has many poverty areas and that is not the fault of Britain. Look at the Indian Government for the answers to that one. Great video and your response. Do the British want compensation from the French for its invasions and rule in 1066? No.
Do the British want compensation from Denmark, Sweden and Norway for Viking invasions and rule? No.
Did these nation take British people as slaves and took objects from Britain, they did too.
In those days 1000, 500 years ago Britain was invaded a lot too.
Not sure what your trying to say here, BUT imagine France or Portugal taking over India BEFORE the British did and maybe would have been wiped out or had slavery that would have lasted until today.
God knows why the British were the most effective fighting force on Earth. BUT maybe the world is in a better place for British rule, conquests and Empire it controlled.
Stop hating and just see that the world is what it is today because of Britain.
Less not forget it was the Hindus that wanted Muslims out of India and the British wanted India to be whole and integrated mixed religion as it had been for 200 and more years. The Hindus split India up into three regions India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. IF its still God's will then this is the outcome too of those regions being split up too.

How hard is a language to learn, depends a lot of how much is it similar to your own language. As Russian has several cases, its grammar has quite different logic from English, but for someone else using cases, it makes learning Russian easier than learning English. Besides, it has not too many irregularities (it has some mess with genders, but much less than German), and if you hear an unknown word, you can be almost sure how to write it (or vice versa). Many people have prejudices because of the different alphabet, but it fits the language needs pretty well (much better than Latin for Polish).
As Finnish is not an Indo-European language, for any Indo-European comparing it makes little sense.

"someone else using cases, it makes learning Russian easier than learning English"
Well, I'm not sure the Germans would agree with that! And the _absence_ of cases in 'modern' English, by the way, is surely one of the things that makes it _easier_ to learn, is it not? And that _more_ than compensates for the idiosyncracies of our spelling, I'd have thought.
"How hard is a language to learn, depends a lot of how much is it similar to your own language"
Or, of course, similar to _another_ language you've learned - such as Latin, which makes learning the Romance languages _much_ easier for those with a Classical education - as opposed to those with no education at all to speak of (a class whose number seems to be growing yearly in the West).

The European campaigns were all in coalition. The Crusades were called for by the Pope and involved all of Christendom. Many wars were wars of defense, plus the first invasion of Afghanistan was to prevent Russia during it's expansionist phase invading India.
Many countries didn't even exist when "invaded" and formed under British rule, and Belgium was created out of the Napoleonic wars...
Any country that has survived a thousand years free of invasion will have battles and wars to remain that way. Many of the ones he mentioned were seized as a consequence of war, not against them directly but because they went into alleigences with an enemy...
It starts conveniently at after all the invasions of Britain including the big one from a pre-French viking invaded effectively creating modern England... From 1066-1300's the aristocracy, elite, land barons etc all spoke old French, which explains where a lot of French terms in England came from...
