    I wish you would make ALL the how to videos. Unlike all the other cooking shows and DIY videos that they always seem to skip the most important steps to get the job done, you not only showed every steps and made them watchable. You got a talent! Thank you sir!

      Each door has its own actuator. So whichever doors have the problem are the ones you need to work on. Best to replace all though. They are getting very old.

    Why would you glue the case back together? What about next time the motor needs replacing?

    • @goatsinapond
      @goatsinapond  Před 11 měsíci

      It's glued from the factory. That's why it has to be pried apart. The thin layer of plastic resin seals the case but allows for it to be taken apart in the future. Keep in mind the next time these motors will need replacing is 20+ years.

    Is there a way of detaching the upper lock cable? I saw You doing the lower one (near actuator). Trying to replace the upper ripped cable and not sure if it can be detached from the lock mechanism. Thanks.

    • @goatsinapond
      @goatsinapond  Před 7 měsíci

      I've read about people replacing them so my guess is that it comes off. Without having the actuator out of the vehicle and in front of me, it's hard to say, but looking at some pictures online it appears to have the same plastic piece holding it in a slot (same as lower one) that you could press out and then remove it from the assembly.

    • @amayzer2826
      @amayzer2826 Před rokem

      Doing my 06 470 now. You'll need the motor that has a half round/half flat shaft. Looks like a half moon.

  • @zacharywilloughby1200

    Had you had any problems with the security system before you replaced the motor? I have a 00 lx470 and the driver side motor is going out and also having a problem with the alarm going off randomly when locked.

    • @goatsinapond
      @goatsinapond  Před rokem

      No, I didn't experience anything like that. I wonder if the failing motor is triggering something with the alarm system.

    • @spike555
      @spike555 Před rokem +2

      Your sunroof drains are clogged, the water cannot drain and runs down the outside of the drain tube and drips onto the Body Control Module, which is behind the passenger footwell kick panel. It then shorts out, set's off the alarm, will trigger the DRL's, keep the instrument cluster live, turn on the HVAC blower, all kinds of things. Clear the sunroof drains, there are four of them. One in each corner, use compressed air and an air gun. Short quick bursts. Then rinse with clean water. Once the BCM dries, problem will be gone. Then you just need to make sure the drains are clear once a year. Also, make sure the drains UNDER the truck are clear, they are in the pinch weld in the rocker panels. They are little slits, use a zip tie to clear them. You will need to crawl under the truck to see them. The corners of the rocker panels will rust from the inside out and you will hear water sloshing while driving but will not have a clue as to where it is coming from.

      @@spike555 I’ll have to look into it this weekend. The guy I bought the car from had the sunroof motor and all completely replaced but it wasn’t done by a Lexus/Toyota dealer and it works fine but still probably wouldn’t hurt to check the drains. I did go through and replace all of the door lock motors in each door and it seems to have helped some. The alarm doesn’t go off as frequent but it still randomly goes off at times.

    I got my new one in and tested. It sounded like it was stripping inside of the casing. Now i need to take it back off again. Why did this happen??

    • @goatsinapond
      @goatsinapond  Před rokem

      Sorry to hear it’s giving you trouble. It sounds like maybe it wasn’t fully seated into position so the gear teeth were not getting good contact. The little motor has a decent amount of torque to initiate the lock and unlock movement, and if the casing wasn’t fully cured it could have separated a little when the motor engaged causing the motor to wiggle out of place. I hope you get it figured out. Let me know how it goes.

    • @IronMountainPlumbing
      @IronMountainPlumbing Před rokem +1

      @@goatsinapond so you were right. I pulled it back out, took it apart, shaved the old jb weld off and redid it. This time I pressed the heck out of it after I re glued it. Used clamps to hold it tight for 15 mins. Amazing what happens when you follow directions 🙃

  • @spike555

      The trunk one is the easiest. The order from what I recall (just did it today): Top trim (sides pull towards each other, top pulls towards the front of the car were the hatch closed, NOT DOWN towards the handle). Handle and handle garnish. Bottom trim. Four rods. Three bolts. Plug.
