It’s so bittersweet to think that Buddy Guy, who was always considered the “little brother” of all the old original bluesmen, is the last remaining link to that amazing legacy of music. When he passes, a HUGE chapter will close and a very important link will be lost forever. Let us cherish this amazing man. ❤

There are so many "great guitarists that had Mr.Guy behind them on the records that helped them achieve stardom. Also when a person coming up got to have Buddy Guy play with them they sounded terrific and a lot of times people don't even know who was playing what lead rhythm , or wich part of the music was the starred artist playing and what part was played by a guest . Buddy Guy is ,was and will be the cleanest most intricate and tastiest guitar on so many records of big names . The mans licks were invisible yet so commanding that every one suddenly sounded better when Buddy Guy was in the studio with them.

Saw Buddy about 25 years ago and I told my friend about him. My friend said "that's my uncle." I didn't really believe him so he planned for us to meet. The day came and no Buddy. About 4 months later, my friend called and asked me to come over and bring my guitar. I walked in his trailer and he was sitting with Buddy and they were jamming. I couldn't believe it. Buddy was so cool and nice but he wouldn't let me play with him unless I had a few drinks. We got jacked up and played all night. Despite never making it big myself, the best compliment was when we finished and Buddy said "you can really play man." To me, that was better than any record deal or gold record. Looking back, I wish I'd asked him to hook me up but I was too drunk and having too much fun to even think about that kinda thing. Anyway, just a little story about Buddy.

What a gift you received!

I live in Indy. My friends and I would take an AMTRAK train to Chicago on New Years Eve and bar hop Rush Street. If you've never been, it's one blues bar after another. Real Chicago blues. One of them had a blues band and the guy had a polka dot Strat just like Buddy uses. I sat and watched the set and on break this "guy" comes up to the bar and I comment that he looks and sounds a lot like Buddy Guy. He told me that he gets that alot. I chatted with him for a while and he went back on stage. The bar tender comes up and I mention to him how much he looks like Buddy Guy. The barkeep just looked at me and said "that's because it IS Buddy Guy". My friends were ready to move on to another bar and I was like "guys, you ain't gettin' me out of here until this show is over." And I didn't leave until 3:00 am. What a show. He is so smooth and flowing. That's my Buddy Guy story. I tell it to who ever will listen! lol

I walked up to you inside the front door and said I came all the way from Petoskey Michigan to say hello and thank you for all your music. You smiled and gave me a fist bump and said you are welcome. Larry McCray played that night as I was sitting there watching him perform. I looked at the end of the bar and you were sitting there having a beer. #TruthBomb. Say it again for the people in the back cause they didn't hear you. He is among the Last of the Titans of Americana, a true cultural icon since the 1960s who still does not get the respect he is due for his contributions both to music and his influence on many of the players we love. Yet our corrupt and debased media demons continually push bubble gum Pop-Tart trash chicks with cleavage and minimal (or no) talent whose only positive trait is looking *ok* after makeup, Photoshop filters, and Auto-Tune. The history of the music business shows that statistically most current artists are done and forgotten within 8 years. Buddy Guy is 82 years old and still able to have a thriving career playing many live gigs a month. When his time comes (as it will for us all) the world will be poorer for it and most people will not know or even care. A very sad sign of the times

I've been blessed to see Buddy Guy on a few occasions. My first introduction was when I was tracing down guest appearances by Mark Knopfler...who had played on the stellar Damn Right I've got the Blues. I was hooked....the wild and dynamic voice of both Buddy and his guitars, and the sheer emotional intensity! I caught him twice in France and once state-side. I was entrusted with one of his pick after a show in France. My father and went three years running to the Chicago Blues fest, which finished the day after College ended and encountered him in his club. An honor to shake his hand and get an autograph on my Buddy Guy t-shirt (which I don't wear!). My dad got his hat autographed but years later it got blown off his head into the ocean and was lost in the stormy surf. I guess Poseidon must have spied it and decided he needed it. I'd suggest to everyone to get Stone Crazy, in my opinion the most powerful of his albums, which also has the stellar rhythm work of his brother Phil.

54 minutes of pure bliss. A living blues legend sharing some blues history for us all. I saw Buddy numerous times here in Toronto back in the day. It was great to see those guys work magic in small blues clubs when they were 10 feet away and playing their hearts out. Those days are gone but we have those incredible memories.

Man that whole last 10-15 minutes hurt me in my soul
I'm 32 and it's only been about the last 3 years that I've been digging in and listening to the blues. Every day, I'm kicking myself for not getting into it at a younger age.
Rock is still my favorite, and I've dabbled with some metal but, I really hate myself for not getting into the blues.
Especially when I realize that the blues is at the very core of everything that I listen to

Watch every minute. Then watch the last 5 minutes everyday. Love you Buddy. In 2000 years with everything that has been saved on CZcams and whatever other tubes I believe there will always be space for the stuff you created. There may be a year when nobody listens but it is so good it will always be good. I remember sitting at a table in your club. You were sitting close to the stage. A girl I was with asked who you were and why everyone was making such a big deal over you. I told her you own the club. A few minutes later she asks: who is the white guy sitting next to Buddy. I look at her. Really? That’s Eric Clapton.

There are not many “real blues men” left but you can tell from the opening note that Buddy is the real deal. He plays loud and ferocious and can be as quiet as a church mouse and everything in between. This is about the best video history and interview I have seen on Buddy Guy. If you want to know what Buddy is all about start here. Great video and thanks for posting. We love you Buddy!!!!

And it was worth every penny! He got off the stage and went into the crowd and then went into the concession room and was playing,I was standing there watching him playing and he walked right up to me and I put my hand on his back and he just looked at me and smiled! Best damn show that I’ve ever been too! And I’ve seen about everyone since 1978! And I would love to see him again and I’d pay twice what I paid for those tickets! Yeah he’s my hero 🎸!

That was great. What a treasure Buddy is. I just wish they’d showed a Kay guitar-I read somewheres he kept an old beater Kay at home, and I remembered the only time I ever played one, it was a real beater, too: handed down from seven Irish brothers to an acquaintance of mine, dropped by, saw it in the corner, even had the original little Kay amp: his dad got it from a catalogue for his oldest brother (my friend was the youngest one); so I grabbed it thinking it played like as beat up as it looked: heavy, chipped and scratched, big dog-turd neck on it-but dang if it wasn’t as sweet as honey! “I’ll buy it from you!” “Nuh-uh, I’m a keep it...” So I thought about it when I heard Buddy had one in his collection. Still looking, haven’t seen one yet-but I live in the country and I’m old as a hill so maybe there’s one out there for me. Meanwhile I make do with a 58 Harmony Rocket, one single-coil-hotter n a four-dollar pistol- two big white knobs on an orange table (can’t miss ‘em)-and my Tele, of course (I was raised in the country so I do like C&W, too. But Blues is my first love).
Thnx for this doc: it’s really honest and good.
