This is one of those reunions you didn't know you needed until you see an old friend you haven't seen in years. Seeing both these great and diverse actors again brings back fond memories of the chemistry I saw with them on the cinema screen with Moulin Rouge. You can tell Ewan and Nicole have great respect and friendship even still for each other. Great interview!
Shonnae Robinson So true!
Clemmy Magee these actors came to popularity in a time that was very different for TV. It was not then as it is now, stories were not as varied and well written and actors typically saw TV as a niche industry (the small time) or a place to start a career. It’s only been in the last decade that TV/short form has become a great medium for storytelling. As they said in the interview, it wasn’t until a few renowned film actors began taking the risk of working in TV that things began to change :)
Interesting to see her leg position change while interviewing. When she suddenly realises she isn't 24 any more but then quite sad to see a very TALENTED woman resorting to facial sabotage. And then there is Ewan.....still looks good but a total prick
Angela Sealana has
Shonnae Robinson Was
7 months later - she’s winning all the Best Actress awards for “Big Little Lies” (BLL) and he’s winning the Best Actor Awards for “Fargo” and BLL gets a 2nd season
Isn't that fabulous?
They are incredible :)
That's the REASON for these mutual wank-fests - PROMOTION, so that the actors will win the awards. When the studios submit the actors for those awards, the actors have to comply with all these kinds of useless blah blah blah clauses in their contract, where they have to PROMOTE PROMOTE PROMOTE - and this is regarded as promotion. So it's not a fluke that they win the awards - it's part of the pathway of the studio marketing.
If you see an actor win an award and YOU NEVER HEARD OF THEM OR SAW THEM IN ANY JUNKETS OR PROMOTION OR INTERVIEWS, that's when you know the system is not working correctly.
I'm so glad BBL got a 2nd season - loved it just as much as Season 1 - BUT, I NEED A SEASON 3!!! Where is Season 3? Come on!!!!
Dude... Nicole is literally a treasure. Down to earth, laughs at herself and insanely talented. She's the real deal.
Yeah crazy-Tom sure missed something
Seems a bit touchy about the age thing. Makes me remember all the Botox jokes about her forehead.
@@samanthab1923 every woman, especially in the industry she works in, is insecure of their age no matter what they say.
@@samanthab1923 but she looks GREAT in BLL
@@samanthab1923 Right. I really hope she gets over all that nonesense with the years, otherwise she's perfect to me.
They have a lot of chemistry on and off screen. They should do another movie together for sure!
Indeed
Yup, every single pair have amazing chemistry on and off screen. Its called "doing his/her jobs". You guys are so naive... lol.
oh well...that's not true at all...for example, Jennifer Jones and William Holden didn't get along while doing Love Is A Many-Splendored Thing back in 1955...also Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn didn't get along during Sabrina(1954)...even Paul Newman didn't get along with Sophia Loren during Lady L in 1965
This was a DREAM to watch. I am 34 now and when I was a kid, 12/13 Moulin Rouge came out and that film changed my life. These two have been my favorite actors since and its a pleasure growing up with them both. Watching their work! Thank you, Variety for such a brilliant pairing here... So needed! x
Omg same age and I don’t like Nicole but that film had an impact.
Ugh, these two. Christian and Satine ruined my love life for many years by setting an impossible standard. If he wasn't singing a medley of love songs to me on top of a giant elephant, forget it! ;-)
Love these two. They need to do a Leo and Kate and reunite on another movie!
Karliene, LOL literally. So true, I was 21 I think when i watched the film and thought exactly the same, he has to be staring at me across from a windmill in twilight cinematic weirdness or get lost dude....Maybe thats why I'm still single lol. 😆
"Kate was a big, fat buxom mae West in Titanic. looked like an old hooker robbing the craddle" wth, are you blind?
Kate Winslet big fat buxom Mae West, I was exactly the same like wtf. Beautiful Kate winslet, showing a slightly curvy woman who looked older then Leo in a way but never thought it was poor casting or even crossed my mind...Leo just looked incredibly young.
I know that feel... come what may... I remember who that song was meant for me, and I get a little ache. Live moves on.
Karliene OMG agree. Jerks who don't sing to me from atop elephants can stuff it...wait...did i just say that aloud? Lol
The chemistry is so strong between them. It really is amazing. Kate and Leo and Nicole and Ewan! I love seeing actors that have that spark.
Anthony Hebisen Same with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Or Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. Ryan Gosselin and Emma Stone. It's great to see people who say you know what I enjoy working with you let's make another movie.
I read they had an affair making, ‘ Moulin Rouge’. Is this true?
@@elizabethmcleod246No, it's not true.
I have come here after finishing moulin rouge to help pull myself together
literally watching this after being in tears for the last hour of moulin rouge haha so i hear ya
@@ellie_nard I literally have just stopped sobbing (I'm 100% still sobbing) I really don't know what I expected from moulin rouge or why I didn't watch it for so long but the whole thing was like an acid trip and then the ending has literally broke me and I'm needed to watch this to settle myself!!!!
Come what may.. I will love both of you.. until my dying day.
Do they talk about Moulin Rouge?
missingno they talk about it a lot
yes
Freak George ,inhale
Yel Yint How exactly people can "love" someone they've never spent time with and know NOTHING about mystifies me.
I never miss an interview or conversation with Nicole Kidman simply because this woman is full of wisdom and seems like a great learner too. She has a great way of expressing her thoughts so articulately and seems like a very balanced person. The fact that this interview is between two old friends who worked on a masterpiece makes it only more engaging and intimate. Just like her earlier conversation with Casey Affleck, I loved this one too.
And she really seems to be so genuine, caring and just so lovely.
The give and take between Nicole and Ewan is wonderful to watch. It is abundantly clear the respect, admiration and genuine friendship. Their body language is telling. They are gaving each other yet Nicole carries herself with true grace and Ewan is absolutely comfortable with her. I love this and didn't know I needed.
now I feel like watching Moulin Rouge again..
I know right? I've watched it soooo many times in the theater and dvd that I even lost count
Joshua Hammond i’m a straight female
Joshua Hammond are you using gay as an insult because I don’t see it as one. Listening to Avril Lavigne however is very questionable 💅🏽
Yes, go ahead. I still do !
I just love how Nicole gets easily flustered. Her awkwardness is so adorable.
their chemistry is just amazing I need more movies with the two of them
Nicole is amazing in Big Little Lies. Hope to see her winning the Emmys! Thank you for this Moulin Rouge reunion! Great team!
LordKaido Yes. The other episodes are amazing. The acting keeps getting better and better. Reese, Laura and Shai are great! Give it a chance!
LordKaido Big Little Lies was the exact opposite of boring! we were taken in immediately. the entire time you're wondering who in the hell dies and kills at the end because almost everyone is a suspect. it's brilliant!
I think it's going to be a tough race between Nicole Kidman and Jessica Lange. JL got 8 episodes to show a lot more range than Nicole, but we never know. They were both amazing.
I was watching the first episode last night and was very kept by it. I really like those intimate, subdued dramas.
that's like the very first musical I've watched, and damn, can't get my self out.
WE COULD BE HEROES FOREVER & EVERRRRRRRRRRRR.
I would die and come back just to experience The Moulin Rouge for the fist time and hear these to sing once more with no hesitation. Such lovely people and true artists. Thanks for shaping my childhood and giving me something full of love when my life was so bleak.
Some of these 'Actors on Actors' are a tough slog, even when they're actors I really like. But this one is a conversation I could listen to for another hour. They're both great storytellers, but just as important they're both great listeners, which is what transforms an ordinary conversation into a connection, a meeting of the minds. Really lovely.
the best one I've seen. They were so comfortable with each other, so interested in talking about these things, raised great points... really, really great
If you haven't seen Hugh Grant and Colin Farrell, you might enjoy that too. :)
ohh, i loved that one too! they were also very chill and talked about great stuff =)
Agreed. Natural and great points!
Yes, they are really great actors in pretending they were interested in talking to each other about each other.
Oh my God, these two still have the same quemistry from moulin rouge! The best actor on actor ever! It could go on and on and I still be watching them talk!
Russel Furtado I like how you spelled chemistry.
I did not like the movie at all.
I remember her saying in an interview after Moulin Rouge that you just can't help but fall in love with Ewan when you hear him sing. Facts! 💯 I remember the first movies I saw of his, Trainspotting and Velvet Goldmine, I just loved him so when Moulin Rouge came out and I heard him sing I was so head over heels for him. Nicole, always loved her and her voice is like an angel's. Such an extraordinary woman with talent and wisdom. I hope they can both star in something again, maybe a TV series or film. It would be great to see that chemistry on film again.
Nicole! What a lady. She's gorgeous and so classy. Ewan is adorable. Great video!
Really, she is very classy. But the way she was sat when begins the video is absolutely funny, lol.
Evandro G. Silva ko
So lovely! Make one of those with Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio
ben-hur bernard yesssss! That's a great idea. I'd watch that instantly
ben-hur bernard Kate and Leo and Nicole and ewan both are the actors with the most chemistry I’ve seen on film
Kate did one with Gary Oldman.
Oh no at first I thought you wanted Leo & Claire Danes. The Romeo & Juliet connection to Baz.
Moulin Rouge! One of my favorite movies of all time FOR all time!
ditto
Nicole and Ewan were amazing in this movie. Love these 2
They make me smile and so happy to call myself a fan of both. This was wonderful. Thank you for getting them back together.
25:28 "It's not you, it's the crane" That camera crane 12 take story is lovely.
Messofanego loved that! ❤️
Natalie Zayas-Bazan j
I love Douglas Henshall even more now. The thought that those two are friends is amazing.
You can see that they are both quite comfortable discussing their craft. There is a mutual respect that puts them both at ease.
I loved the laid-back honesty they were sharing. I've loved them as an acting pair on "Moulin Rouge". They stretched themselves individually and as an acting team far beyond anything they had ever done to include the acting, intense comedy and dancing. hearing their perspectives on issues and experiences in acting and the media business/processes was intense and deeply shared and felt.
rooooooxxxxxxxannnneeeee you don't have to put on Nicole's red dress.
i dont know why this made me so happy
the police are amazing btw and that is my favorite of their songs.
They have amazing chemistry! They need to work together again.
GIVE US AN OBI-WAN KENOBI MOVIE WITH EWAN!!!!!
YES PLEASE OMG
You know Nicole would not be a bad Dutchess Satine.
sweetazn208 Cate Blanchett for Satine
@@moondustberries8171 omg even better!
Yeah that.... 😀
Can Nicole please play Duchess Satine in the Obi-Wan Kenobi show?! She'd be perfection, and they could play up *all* the Moulin Rouge parallels!
I love that idea. I hope so.
Oh my god you are a genius🔥Now I can’t stop thinking about that😩😩
omggg can this please happen? I'm dead serious everyone would love it
YAY! Waited 16 years for a Ewan+Nicole reunion.
Loved this interview. Both very talented, honest, open. It felt like a great chat we were all included in.
The chemistry between these two is just magical.
They were so comfortable with each other... it is truly such a treat.
Specially with Nicole as she seems mostly guarded in her interviews.
But in this particular interview, she looked at home and talking a lot too!
Maybe it comes with maturity too.
Respect too that they did not bleep out All the F words from Ewan!
Their chemistry is as great as it was back then, but then, they're great people and they're great actors. Nicole and Ewan aren't about repetition, they're about discovery, which is why their cinematic chemistry with me never fails either.
This video was way too short. I need at least a full 2 hours of these two talking. Or maybe 25.
What a talented pair of accents.
....lol
Nicole Kidman is absolutedly one of our greatest actresses of our time. Everything she does is quality and she has so much range.
You could see it even in commercials that she does. Her Channel No 5 commercial is so artistic and captivating.
these 2 drop-dead gorgeous actors had so much chemistry in Moulin Rouge. I absolutely love them and Moulin Rouge was such a great movie.
Such a good conversation, I could hear them talk about making films and acting for hours.
I waiting and hoping for Ewan to break out and sing... "AND YOU CAN TELL EVERYBODY.. This is your song."
I'm still waiting to hear him sing anything from the movie again. 😔
So I watched Moulin Rouge on repeat on VHS when I was pregnant & my now 18 year old is called Christian 😂
This is one of the most fascinating conversations about the industry of the year
I can honestly say that Nicole has always been amazing in the film's I've watched her in. She is so much better than she thinks.
I can’t express myself enough to see this…very refreshing to have actors directly speaking to another within the same profession but yet see true sides of others at the same time.
Aside from that, her voice and his in Moulin Rouge! I loved the song “come what way”…. Thank you soo much for the duet…❤
Just saw the movie (again) and thought it’d be nice to see this interview (again) BECAUSE WHY NOT. The movie is just timeless. They’re both timeless actors as well.
What a joy to see these two sit and chat together it could go forever without them losing that chemistry...
my heart was melted, i desperately hope they could work together again
I don't think I've loved anything more than I've loved Moulin Rouge and Nicle and Ewan in it. An absolutely wonderful film. J'adore.
truly one of the most enjoyable Actors on Actors interviews! loved it
This is magical! Thanks so much Variety!
People forget that Glenn Close was the first one to jump to television with "Damages".
This interview is great. It is interesting how much Ewan has changed, whereas Kidman is as porcelain-skinned as ever.
Who gives a bugger. I didn't realise it was a competition, I guess. Well done Glenn Close though.
You go Glenn Coco!
No offense to Glenn but did she not just get past her sell by date on the big screen, lets face it if you aren't Meryl Streep or Helen Mirren women of a certain age don't get work, and went to television as a last resort. Whereas Matthew and Woody have big careers still.
And Kate Winslet did Mildred Pierce in 2003
Max N. I think the big success was sex and the city as well as sopranos that picked up all the awards after they came out. HBO was golden after that. just hit after hit.
Thanks for uploading the whole interview !!!!!!!!!!!!!
What exceptional viewing. Well done Variety for putting this together. It is wonderful to get an insight of top actors by interviewing each other. They seem a lot more comfortable and have given us, the viewer, a lot more of themselves. Brava!
What a delight to see these two starts talking so openly and in such a friendly and sincere way!! I'm a huge fan of both! Xoxox
Love this kind of "interview"
. The interaction is amazing!!! I like to see how humble she is recognizing that his singing is far way her capacity!!!!
I really love these, because I love hearing actors freely talk about what they do. There's no agenda, they just discuss the craft and the art and their perspective.
the most smooth & pleasant conversation
This was wonderful. Watching two talented people talk about what they love to do is such a gift. Thank you.
Seeing these two together gives me the feels, Moulin Rouge is one of my all time favorite and always makes me cry
I LOVE THEM BOTH!
Fantastic Interview with 2 individuals who worked on a film together that personally had a massive amount of importance to my life. Seeing them together again, talking, laughing and reminiscing brings me joy! Thanks Variety! More of these please :)
great conversation, tbey seem very at ease with one and another, most enjoyable to watch
Nicole Kidman is *fabulous* in this one on one. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Ewan McGregor fan and he's great here too but I find Nicole to be particularly charming & engaging. She is extremely well spoken & articulate and also very attentive to everything Ewan has to say. Ewan was all these things too but I don't know, for whatever reason it was Nicole who made a much bigger impression. One thing's for sure, Ewan & Nicole's chemistry together is incredible and still as electric as it was almost 20yrs ago in Moulin Rouge. I would *love* to see the two of them together onscreen again in the very near future.
Holy cannoli this format is glorious. Please keep on producing these kinds of videos, Variety!
They got a wonderful chemistry in Moulin Rouge. I hope they could make more films together.
i could watch them talk for hours
Lovely actors that did a perfect and unforgettable movie together ❤
Wow, I love this pairing too!! They were very comfortable with each other. They are such kind and humble people.
Brilliant idea variety!!! More interviews like this with favourite film couples!
The years between seeing each other just melted away. Lovely catchup.
2 Amazing people, especially my fellow countryman 🏴
I like how the colour of his Docs matches the colour of her dress. And also how comfortably they sit on those chairs in the beginning of the video.
Sooo cute! Talking about their memories together 😍 loved these two!
these are two amazing human beings whose passion for what they are doing is obvious from anything theyre saying. i love both of them and respect their sense of work and passion and life and art. great interview. may there be many more long years for these two to keep doing what they love, and for us to be witness to their creations
dear Variety....THANK YOU SO MUCH for this ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
What a charming and totally disarming discussion. They really like and respect each other. Plenty of humor. Polite and honest. Thanks.
I'm so glad they did this mini reunion for this interview. Just them talking about Moulin Rouge made me so giddy I adore that film so much. I can't believe they did this. I love these Actors on Actors interview because they are so raw and pure. I'm so happy for them and the movies/TV shows they have accomplished over the years. ❤
These two are giving me life *-*
This was delightful. I just love them both so much. Thanks for sharing this!
Omg.... Almost 30 minutes of Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor is JUST WHAT WE NEEDED YAAAAAASS! Finally a long interview! Can't wait for her new movie The Beguiled
This was amazing. Thanks, Variety.
These two are everything
Couple of awesome actors - thanks for this 👍🏻
This is what I needed. Moulin Rouge is one of my all time favorite movies. I have followed both actors since then. Well I was following Ewan since 1st grade after I saw star wars lol then when i snuck and saw moulin rouge in 3rd grade and recorded it on vhs lmfao when my parents werent home i was SOLD haha and have been following each since. LOVE them both soooo much!!!
Brittney Dennis My lord, this comment is a spitting image of me!!
Great interview. I love hearing actors thoughts on the switch from film to TV and what they think about streaming.
This was great! I love these two actors so much. They do incredible work and it shows. I'm glad they go out of their comfort zone and help others along the way. Moulin Rouge is my favorite film of theirs and I love seeing them work in other interesting things. All the best! Thanks for doing this and sharing this video with us!
Two of my favorite actors, so intelligent & dedicated to their craft, thank you for posting this....
I love seeing them as passionate about that movie - for them to feel the same way that they made us all feel with that movie is so special!
This is my fave one yet. It felt like I was a fly on the wall of 2 actor friends catching up for coffee. So good. x
Honestly, Disney would miss a huge opportunity not casting Nicole as Satine. She literally plays a woman Satine who (spoiler alert) dies in Ewan (Obi Wan)'s hand at the end of the film. It is dead on poetic
I NEED MORE OF THIS INTERVIEW I LOVE THEM BOTH!! ❤️
This is my favorite - by far - of the ones I've watched, Two really, really good actors talking shop. Thank you!
they both should have won the oscar for moulin rouge ... great film.. should have many oscars.
its so interesting to hear a conversation with both the australian and scottish accent of two amazing actors
Love these two very great actors. They did fantastic work in " Moulin Rouge". I still watch to this day. Thank you for making my life a happier place. I love movies.
the way nicole sits ;b
Esther Liu Tall people in little chairs.
Esther Liu : besides being tall in a small chair, she sits like one does when you chill with an old good friend.
She is showing off her hot legs, I absolutely don't mind! :-D
legs that won't end
Love them both. Thank you for this treat.
