I love this. I would love to see more content like this. So many people want to feature crazy rare and expensive plants. I feel that there are SO many newbie plant parents out there (including me) that need info on these common plants. We go to the big box stores for our first plants. They all may be “old news” to the plant community but to us they are exciting and new and we want to learn as much as we can about them. Thanks for sharing!!

I agree! I've been caring for house plants for almost 10 years now and I still get excited over a lush, beautiful pothos. I really enjoy the "common" plants because they're easy to grow, low maintenance and communicate their needs well

It’s the old plants I grew in my teens that I always return to when I revisit filling new homes with plants. I find they grow well with easy care and they are as beautiful as the drama queens that bring as much stress as pleasure. Yes… definitely happy with my basic common beauties ❤️❤️❤️

Let's hear it for the philodendron burle marx. My favorite because of the ease of growing and propagating. It is also consistent with keeping the leaves sprouting winter, spring, and summer. A 4 inch plant can quickly grow into a sizeable floor specimen.... no grow tent needed.

After nearly 40 years of growing house plants I still love the old ones. Though I do get excited about a few rare ones too. The plants that used to be "common" are the ones people were able to take a cutting from when they were at your house. Its how I got all mine. You weren't really be able to buy plants back in the day. Maybe the odd one at the florists or maybe the fruit and vedge shop. Much the same as garden plants. I'm sure every area had the same dozen plants that everybody had. Ye olde spider would have been number 1.

I've keep seeing plant videos related to stress. Just know that you're the one creating your own stress, no one is forcing you to keep buying plants or put so much time into keeping them. A lot of people simply choose to buy flowers, watch them wither, and then buy new flowers. Too much talk about plants revolves around perfectionism, like it's a competition. Think about why you got into plants in the first place, I bet it wasn't because you wanted to have all the latest rare plants for your "collection". If anything, plants should be a reflection reminding us that nothing lasts, and that we should saviour the moment. So close down instagram, enjoy the plants you love, and don't worry about the rest.

Ficus are just pest magnets, period. 😆 In my childhood neighbourhood in the Philippines, we had some Ficus Benjamina around. You can tell they have thrips because a lot of the leaves folded in half. When I was a kid, I unfolded them to unveil the black thrips. 😂 But, man, are Ficus trees beautiful! Especially when they are ancient. We even have folklores about them.

ey Fern, if you miss a tree:
You can just bring a big branch from outdoors inside. Of course check it first (for any visible infestation) and once you've brought it home clean it by either giving it a shower or wiping it off (if for example it doesn't fit into your shower).
It brings super cool nature vibes into the home.
And also what you can do: You can put trailing houseplants on it - I mean you can kind of wrap around the ends of a plant around it. (Sorry, English is not my native language).
I don't have a plant on my branch yet, but I want to exchange my branch soon anyways.
    It looks very great!

My n'joy pothos has brought me so much joy. I got a 6" cutting for free, and gave it away to a friend after cutting it up and propagating it.
It got big and I got nostalgic. Friend gave me back a cutting and I'm starting a new pot.
When it isn't valuable you don't worry about killing it. Honestly you learn more than you'd think.

I have had my current ones for a year after bringing them back from the brink and I’ve decided high light in a west facing window is they key. For watering, I follow pinch test- if it’s wrinkly I water, if it’s plump I leave it.

Calathea is another that does not like my house, it is too fickle! Of course bringing up the rear would be ZZ Raven and ZZ Regular! Then there is my Cacti collection! SoP is still one of my favorite plants to grow. It’s so satisfying to see it thrive. I’ve killed 2 before the one I have now, but all is good for the time being 😁

Yep, I have all of those apart from any elasticas and begonia. Love my burros tail and don’t see it very often in GB 👍🏼🇬🇧

Ahhhh thank you for this video!! I'm a total newbie to plant care and this video is so casual and informative. This has given me so many ideas and inspiration. I just bought a pothos and a snake plant and hopefully it goes well! (any advice from anyone is welcome). I will definitely be subscribing to your channel!!

I love common plants. I’ve been looking into coleus plants they are so colorful 💕😊✨💖

I enjoy the "uncommon" plants the most I find. Common ones aren't always excited or needy enough for me or are TOO needy for me. And rare ones are too expensive or make me too nervous to splurge and may even kill it. But plants hanging out around the 20-50$ price range for a small 2in-4in, that typically you have to find online or through a special plant shop, not just showing up everywhere. Those tend to be the right amount of exciting and loveable plants in my collection. Hoya chelsea, Philodendron brandtianum, some of the syngonium varieties come to mind as examples.

I appreciate a plant based off how much I enjoy caring for it, looking at it, and all of that. My faves are constantly changing but for the most part I’m drawn to long leaves! I could care less if it’s “common or rare” but it does make it more enjoyable to have plants in my collection that you don’t see everyday. That’s kinda what I’ve really been drawn to lately. Plants I don’t see on the daily. Some are considered common for “rare plants” and some are like big box store common. Does that make sense? Haha basically I just enjoy the happiness plants give me. They are so peaceful to be around!🥰💚

I’m barely just getting into the more rare plants I do love them, my wallet does not. But I also really just appreciate the simplicity of the normal house plants because they are way more less maintenance and they still bring such a beautiful greenery to my house. You mentioned a few of my favorites adansonii , the friendship plant, rubber tree plant, hoya Hindu rope, string of pearls, Pokeadot begonia. But I also enjoy Snake plants because they are so easy-going and you don’t have to worry about them very much for pests I’ve never seen any spider mites or anything on those. But also I Appreciate all Hoyas because I can let them trail and I don’t have to worry about their lease is getting smaller I can just let them do their damn thing. My moss poles honestly kind of get annoying and plants that go along with them because I hate seeing my plants get smaller and smaller leaves😒 (such as my philodendron heart leaf, cebu blue pothos, Exotica, micans. ) I wish they would just put out normal big leaves without sizing down as they trail.. But it is what it is lol I also really appreciate my massive Monstera Delicioso because it’s just so easy-going and it puts out massive leaves. Such a statement piece.
