God I wish this series was available on DVD here in the USA. I love this show. British television is incredible. So very happy the US hasn't made a crappy version of it.

I so love this kind of time-warping mystery stuff. I guess the problem for me is that I've actually witnessed some pretty weird stuff in real life. Other people only get to see the fictional material, so they assume that all weirdness is fictional. I can't tell people who haven't had bizarre experiences that the weird stuff isn't all fictional.
This show is really wonderful. It took a few to find its feet but at the fourth in the series they were frackin' brilliant.
I actually thought it more fun and more compelling than LOM. To each his own.
The chemistry with Gene and Alex was terrific.

I was trying to find the evil dead comic with the same name but I'm glad I found this.
somehow I liked ashes to ashes best, but it is the love for the 80's I think. life on mars was fantastic but the dynamic between the leads in ashes to ashes was electric
ashes to ashes is AWESOME.
I live in scotland so i'm on series 2 aswell. For people who are watching series one, it is fantastic but series two is even better esspecially gene hunt's one liners, 1) you've got a very pretty face but you go on longer than the eurovision song conest.
2) you've just entered gene hunt country head of state gene hunt, cheif of justice gene hunt, exicutioner gene hunt

So... what brings me here is really an odd set of coincidences (or not?) I discovered Keeley in a movie and the actress embodied everything I imagine in one of the characters in my story- one of the main character's older sister. I have been further developing and exploring the parts in the story where her character comes in as an important character- in 1981. I have been collecting images of people and places and things for years as I come across them that visualize what I see in my imagination. Character or story boards you might say. I often wonder who would play my characters if it were a movie, who would most resemble what I see in my head?? I started adding images of Keeley from various sources because she is perfect! I was drawn to some images of her with a late 70s/80s look about her and that led me to Ashes to Ashes. Here I am now trying to find out more about this series and imagine my surprise that the storyline begins in....1981! Such a strange coincidence. I think I have a girl crush on this actress now.
Mmmmm Keeley Hawes Gorgeous!!!!!! Yes this is a great series, here in the UK we're about half way through series 3 (the final series, sadly)

Life on Mars was only ever meant to be 1 season long anyway. It was replaced by Ashes to Ashes, but the story follows on from Life on Mars.
Wow this trailer was totally different to our british one. Yet I love this show, really do. I love Life On Mars too. Although I think that the chemistry between Drake and Hunt is just amazing in this. Has you on the edge of your seat sometimes! Cant wait for the 3rd and final serise next year! :) x

I think its unfair to compare this to LOM because, independently, the show still held its own in terms of storylines and a new protagonist. I think it could have been worse if A2A was identical to LOM so I give the writers credit for that..

i really like this show i just watched an episode resently where shaz nearly quit and that gut was perving on them twins (i dk some of their names yet!) and i love it lol
Both LoM & A2A are terrific shows. Nobody should ever try to remake something that was brilliant to begin with - what would be the point?
Would like to mention, tho, that the goodness goes both ways. Many Yanks love British shows, many Brits love American shows. We Yanks borrow more ideas because we have so many more TV channels to fill up! But if there's a difference in style, that doesn't make one better or worse than the other. Love what you can & ignore the rest. Long Live UK/US Telly!
I heard filming starts on September 7th (Dean Andrews apparently put it on Twitter)
John Simm is apparently under contract to appear on stage in something else at the same time of filming :/ but he might take a bit of time out to do a cameo I guess.
It's a different approach. Like a movie trailer, it's about 2 minutes and they're more interested in communicating the various acts of the plot. The domestic trailers are usually quite brief and just try to communicate the overall feel of the show.

So I've never seen this show yet but just finished Life on Mars. Is it basically exactly the same concept, only Sam has been replaced by a woman and she's in the 80s instead of the 70s?

Hun, believe me, watch it, it's very different.. For a start Sam and Gene never fancied each other ;) lol... Seriously hun watch it. There is a lot about how women were viewed in the 1980s and a twist that will knock your feet out from under you. Hope you enjoy it, let us know xxxx

@CycolacFan BBC America comes with mid price range satellite/cable and really old BBC shows like keeping up appearances and are you being served are on late at night on PBS (public broadcasting its a non profit type channel that basically no one besides intellectuals, old people and me watch. Pity that we in the states don't watch enough BBC, instead we watch the local variety which is mind numbing.

I'm a non American & i actually preferred the American spin on Life On Mars. The setting (pre-gentrified NYC in the 70s), the American cars & the cast. Something about it just gelled better for me. That's not to say that the original product is not without its own merit.

Hard to follow the Brittish slang sometimes, but I think it's part of why I like the show, because once I sort of translate it in my mind, the humor hits like a delayed joke.
Besides, the 80's references and mentality is funny, and the music gives it a nice flashback.

Ha ha I was 18 in 1981 ...they have totally got all the hairstyling wrong!!! She looked like she rolled out of bed!! My friends spent hours on creating big hair loads of hair spray!!...It was all about the hair in the 80s
What you seem to forget is that it is Alex's memories from 1981 so not everything would be perfect plus everyone had different hairstyles, Princess Diana had short hair!
