Ryan Gosling saved the Oscars (Reaction to ‘I’m Just Ken’ performance)

- I always get a bit depressed around the Oscars. As a filmmaker, it's something we all aspire to, but it's a pretty unhealthy aspiration. You have no control over whether your work is recognized. I think Ryan's performance of 'I'm Just Ken' was so special because it's clear that people love him for who he is. Not just his work, but the relationships while making that work.

Your intro about the Oscars was refreshing, and pretty much how I've felt about these awards shows for years. I initially assumed you were just going to go on a typical diatribe about how movies are stupid and celebrities are silly, etc. But you pretty much said that yes, this is a thing that aspiring artists couldn't help but dream about. And the knowledge that it statistically won't happen for most can be discouraging. So it's a sort of love/hate thing.
Man, I appreciate this! This is exactly what I was going for. It really is a love / hate. I don’t know if I’ll ever know the joy of winning an Oscar, but knowing that my work has an impact, and even more important, having actual joyful relationships in my life have been more than fulfilling.
And Ryan was a child actor. He's surprisingly healthy considering what happens to most child stars. Also, as a man, he's so good at having friendships with women. He must have a great family.
He has a great mother and he has never had a scandal, nor has anyone ever accused him of anything. He is just a very nice and funny guy. Watch the speeches by Steve Carrel and Greta Gerwig fiving him the Kirk Douglas Award. Ken may be a ten, but Ryan is more like a 25 at least on personality plus his looks.
He does and he's Canadian
This and Tracey Chapman at the Grammy’s lifted many of us up. Sometimes we just need people who are truly happy and bring happiness to others.
That Tracey Chapman performance really did breathe life back into me. It was so beautiful.
Performance!! Brining the camera guy on stage was awesome
Yeah, and Slash!
Best performance at the Oscar's yet. Brilliant and singing live. How does Ryan Gosling not get any awards. I give him every award under the sun. Love Ryan Gosling ❤
He is the real winner! But yeah, an Oscar one day! 🤞
@GeoffStone Totally agree. Thanks for making the video. 🎉
His speech at the Kirk Douglas Awards was really good and my favorite quote from his: "I got to meet the girl of my dreams, Eva Mendes, I have two dream children. I dreamed of one day making movies and now movies have made my life a dream."
Thank you for your review. 🤗 Ryan's performance (and the performance of, "I'm Just Ken", as a whole) was the only great thing about the Oscars, imo. He was not only brilliant, but funny, sincere, doesn't take himself too seriously (as award shows tend to do), and all of the nice touches of including his costars and Emma in on the sing-along, to his opening "exchange" with Mark, down to kissing the camera guy's hand were all *him*.. his way of connecting to everyone in genuine appreciation, and it speaks volumes about the type of person he is.. very "un- Hollywood". He's not better than anyone, and he shows you here. Warm, witty, charismatic, extremely talented but humble, this is why Ryan is so beloved. I can't stop watching this performance, and I hope Greta thinks about doing a Ken movie in the future, because it would be hilarious!🥰❤
Beautifully put!
Good for you for putting yourself out there and responding in such an honest and unaffected way. I also loved the performance.
Thank you for these kind words!
I feel the same way you do about everything Ryan did. Thank you for making the video.
Thanks for watching!
It's strange but I have been so happy that Men felt seen watching the Barbie Movie. I hope in time that more movies and shows can be fun for both men and women. I hope that there will be many different types of good, male and female characters in the future.
I hope so too!
Totally agree that being yourself is priceless than getting the award! Very nice of you for posting... Ken!
Thank you for watching!
the Gift of the Gos has bumped you into the 1k Club brother. big ups!
Love him even more now. And you for introducing his acting biznis ❤
@@GeoffStonewe all can take something away from his table o' biznis.
Thanks for this awesome and insightful review of RG’s performance! You’ve made me appreciate and love it even more ❤❤❤
It was amazing! Thank you!
Couldn’t agree with you more. Love Ryan Gosling, who I hope gets his well-deserved Oscar in the near future. ❤
Thank you!
Ryan Gosling is a beautiful, modest man who has truly stolen the hearts of so many Barbie girls!
Through his Ken-do attitude in the real world, he has given two boy dolls recognition they've never had in the past. Allan and Ken. 🩵🩵
Yeah, I agree. And Michael Cera was amazing as Alan.
@GeoffStone Allan is my favorite doll in the movie because he helped the Barbies save Barbieland. 🩵
Dont give up on your ambitions. Its your work that is important and your growth.
Thank you!
I totally agree ! I was waiting for Ryan's performance or else I would have changed it earlier on . The Oscars were kind of boring this year . Also loved Billie Eilish 's performance . Ryan definitely did not Dissapoint ! ❤❤❤
Yeah, Billie Eilish’s performance was amazing!
I hear you, I always wanted to be a screenwriter. I agree, it was a great performance by Ryan and he comes across so much as a great human being more than anything else!
I hope you’re still writing!
I loved your reaction! Thanks for sharing ❤
I'm so glad!
Your words resonate deeply with me. Thanks for sharing this. ❤

Wow! THANK YOU! 🥹
Hopefully soon, a brilliant director will cast Ryan in a remake of “The Scarlet Pimpernel”!
He’s got the action, dramatic and comedic chops to pull it off! This would be the role for him to bring home his own Oscar! Not to mention a great movie!
If we get enough likes on this, we might make enough noise to get it done!
I’m really excited to see his new movie Fall Guys!
Ken may be a ten, but Ryan is at least at 25 on personality alone. Mark and Andrew wanted him to come up with them at the Golden Globes or whatever award the song actually won. 'Gosling wrote and staged the entire performance. It was his idea to base it on Marilyn Monroe's "Diamonds Are a Gril's Best friend" from Gentlemen Prefer Blonds.
Wow, that’s beautiful backstory. Thank you for sharing!
Good video. Keep chasing your dreams!
Appreciate you!
It was epic❤❤❤❤❤
Beautifully put.
Thank you!
Well said!!!!!!!!
I am still bitter Mary was lost her Oscar for the Costumes for La La Land. my Boyfriend was Ken for Halloween and we Love Ken!!!
I quit caring when I found out about the campaigning, bribing and politics involved. Many times the undeserving win and the deserving do not. You have to kiss the right asses to win.
I saw a tweet from someone recently that said “treat the Oscars more like an All-Star game rather than the championship.” So true.
And I'm just Ken did not even win best song! I am still mad😅
I think Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie should both cast Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt, Anne Hathaway, Gal Gadot, Timothee Chalamet, Emma Stone, and Gal Gadot in a Barbie sequel in my opinion.
I think Stone should be cast as Barbie’s best friend Midge, who’s pregnant and fall in love with Gosling’s Ken, and Murphy as Human Ken in a real-world, who’s Sasha’s teacher and Margot’s human Barbie’s (Barbara) love interest.
Hope they bring back Mark Ronson to compose and write more songs.
You sound like a writer!
I'm a dude in his 50's who rarely watches award shows and barely knew Ryan Gosling. This performance made me feel very emotional and IDK why yet. 🩷
