      @@spd-kv6sd It's definitely not a better Sveshnikov, a6 at best leads to a main line Najdorf/Kan after 3.Nc3 and at worst leads to either a worse Alapin or a bad maroczy bind for black if white doesn't fall for one trick.

    • @proaaron578
      @proaaron578 Před rokem

      @@kraknoix0075 I think the main reason is that if white doesn't play d4 it's objectively much worse because white can have a very good maroczy bind or alapin formation after 3.c3 or 3.c4. Even if this doesn't happen black still has to be prepared for a main line Najdorf/Kan/Taimanov after 3.Nc3 and 4.d4. So why not just play a Najdorf/Kan/Taimanov and skip learning this extra theory?

    Nelson, I noticed a slight error in your analysis of 3. d4 in the O'Kelly. after 3...cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 e5, white can play Nf3, and while yes, black hasn't wasted time with d6 as he would in the Kalashnikov, if white goes with a Bc4 Bg5 Qd2 0-0-0 setup, black's d-pawn is still backward and a6 is proven to have wasted a tempo.(Black can develop his dark-squared bishop easier, but the pin of the f6 knight means that the normal Kalashnikov square of e7 would still be sensible.) a6 only makes sense after white makes a threat to play Ndb5. not prohpylactically.
