You couldn't possibly know what these videos do for me. I am disabled and basically confined to the couch most of the day. It is like a vacation watching you and your beautiful family on these adventures. Something although I know I will never get to experience, it is so nice to see and feel like a small part of it. Thank you so much!
Amy, it is our pleasure to share our family adventures with you. Have a great day and stay safe 😊💙🦀
I totally agree. He is an inspiration and brings so much happiness to armchair fishermen like myself.
@@brianproctor8950 totally agree... oh to be 20 again. ;¬)
I'm in the same situation ❤🤗
Hi John, I was speaking to someone who shot pots out of Nairn harbour in Scotland. He too had issues with scumbags lifting his pots. He put a laminated note in the last pot that read “Thank you for lifting my pots. What you do not know is that somewhere in the string of pots is a tracker. By the time you have read this note I will have been notified that they have been lifted to the surface, the time they were lifted, and if you have AIS, the person who lifted the pots. I look forward to meeting you at your home port, either with the constabulary or a group of my friends who will be happy to educate you”. It worked even though it was a bluff.
Only 1 in 10 boats has AIS. In fact I don’t know any recreational/leisure small boat owners who have AIS.
@@TheFishLocker that’s true that recreational boats seldom have AIS. Apple do do a tracker that might work. If nothing else it lets them know that they are being watched and should scare them off. Nuff said. Enjoying the channel .
That was a excellent idea John, seriously!
Mr Grant, thank you this man doesn't deserve this. He has very high individual morales. I just found out his first name from your post, "John." In America we have what we call a town watch, they are community members who volunteer and watch the neighborhood. Maybe you good people could form a coastal pot watch. All it would take is a little organization.
The lousy thieves notwithstanding, I hope you can take a moment to savor the impact on MANY THOUSANDS of folks to whom your videos bring the beauty of the Cornwall coast and the enjoyment we get from being invited onto your boat and foraging trips. The good you do is a blessing to so many. Thank you
Thank you for that Connie. Have a wonderful day and take care 😊🦀🦞💙
here, here Connie well said.
I love that you know the lengths required and stick to them, so many peeps would see that lobster 1mm under and be like "Eh, close enough" and take it anyway. I hope you find who is robbing your pots too, absolutely ridiculous scumbags would do this and I hope you catch them.
It’s either big enough or it isnt. It’s that simple.
@@TheFishLocker Exactly, if 89mm was big enough, THAT would be the number. I bet there's a sociological/statistical thing for this tho, people taking just outside a set limit of something.
@@TheFishLocker that's what you say to all the girls!...HAHA... You asked for that!🤣🍻
@@TheFishLocker- John I figured out why the stone @ 06:46 was found in your pot. Some pesky octopus dragged it in with the intention of having a crab dinner at your expense, but he dashed away as you were recovering your pots leaving the evidence behind. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Outstanding videos!
The inanity of some people on here is TRULY ASTOUNDING. Do ya really think any one is that thick , that they would film themselves keeping undersized ? Why am i replying to you, SAM ? ( i must be as thick as thee !! )
I absolutely loved the way you handled that! You're such a great guy to look up too... happy, mature, reasonable, kind, smart, accomplished, and more importantly you're an amazing father and seem to also be a great husband! The times you spend with little James are very inspiring and the family outings are fun to watch as well. And Spargos kitchen is also a very welcomed spin on your videos.
Well the reason I actually started writing this comment was to say that with all your wholesomeness., it's awesome to see you get serious on a matter that deserved it! I hate seeing good people get taken advantage of.. so I hope you find the prick that keeps pulling and stealing your pots! Just don't get yourself into any trouble lol... try to take em round back and beat em so no one sees 😆
When I find the person responsible he will know, that is enough.
@@TheFishLocker good on ya bro!! knew it was in there somewhere lol. don't let it get ya down though mate, keep being that optimistic happy fella we all love 😁 I'm sure they'll get what's coming to em..
In the Army we called it wall-to-wall counseling. I'm sure it "happened" in John's Navy service too. Someone ran afoul of the rules and their actions splashed on others, so they were 'encouraged' to mend their way without making it official. It was handled in-house, as it were.
@@mstrdiver should of guess John served his country. I feel I have more in common with him now. Old U.S. Navy motto: Semper Fortis. Or maybe fitting the Royal Navy's motto: "Si vis pacem, para bellum."
I’m sure I’m not alone in wishing horrible things on the pot robbers…….worthless scum. Thanks for the vlog, I’m always entertaining and educated watching your hauling sessions.
_Technically_ I never wish horrible things upon them. I just pray for Karma to pay special attention to them. 😁😇
If they were better people, it would be a blessing!
People who do these kind of things, generally have a flaw in their character so it negatively effects other aspects of their lives too. So they get their punishment in life by their own doing.
@@TheFishLocker Your really wise John.
@@alexisgrunden1556 lol...old American saying "what goes around, comes around." or "give them enough rope and he/she will hang themself." I pretty much sure he would have given them what was in the pots if asked..poor tortured soul.
@@Herknungr I wouldn't have expected anything less from John.
John love the videos. I really like how honest you are about your catch, we need more people like yourself in this world. John I am a retired police officer. I would do everything in my power to catch these roaches that are stealing from you. I can tell from your body language you are really pissed off. Hang in there my friend.
Thank you for the support Edward, but sadly most things in the ocean rely upon a gentleman’s agreement. And that also requires gentlemen. Which some people are not.
I love your videos and am very sorry that some people (thieves) are taking advantage of your goodness! I will surround you in light and love
They won’t stop us doing what we love doing. 😊👍🏻🦀🦞
My sister works in conservation, and my family has always been very conservation focused. Watching you diligently take the steps you need to take to protect the native populations is exemplary.
I live in Ontario, Canada, and here all our local turtle species are endangered primarily due to invasive species (mostly the Red Eared Slider) that people have released into local waterways.
I found a red eared slider in.backyard (which was weird because I am nowhere near any waterway) and contacted a local conservation society on what I should do with it. They suggested I release it in any nearby lake or stream.
I tore them a new rectum for that suggestion, i can tell you.
Turns out this particular turtle escaped from my neighbor's backyard pond where he personally rescues pet turtles that kids outgrew. Wish I had known that beforehand, but i did eventually find a good place for this turtle to be rehomed
I think we have issues with the same creatures. We call them Terrapins. Most inner city lakes and canals have lots of them in for the same reason. I thank you for your positive feedback and hope you continue to enjoy our videos. Have a lovely day. 😊🦞🦀
John don't let those steeling aholes make you stop hauling pots. Most of us very much enjoy seeing what's in those pots. Catch the steelers and keep going.
That’s the plan.
I find your videos very educational and therapeutic. Shame about someone spoiling your pots, probably jealous of you.
Don't get to the coast as much as I like but watching your channel takes me there from my front room thank you. Keep up the good work 👏
I am glad you can join us on the coast vicariously. 😊👍🏻
That last pot John... Wow! Fantastic. (I have everything crossed that Karma arrives soon for the scumbags mate.) My Best Wishes to all the family and enjoy those crabs! LUSH!!
Thanks Mike. 😉👍🏻
Not just fishing, but every little extra knowledge makes your video top of the line
Thank you. I hope it is the depth and range of knowledge that sets our videos apart from others who try to do what we do. 😊🦀🦞
I would add that you're a GREAT commentator. Your words come easy to you, your language is fun and the why and wherefores, descriptive on the weather; the sea life, bait, hooks, the pot pirates, etc. The videos are just fun to watch!
Another WONDERFUL video John! Thanks so much! And yes, you DEFINITELY know your "stuff"!
@@TheFishLocker It does. I live miles from the coast but your videos are fascinating and I've learned a lot.
When I was a tad my father's brothers and their families would invite us and we'd all go crabbing on Netarts Bay on the Oregon Coast. They'd plan it out carefully so we would get there just as the tide was turning.
We'd set out our pots and everyone would go to the peninsula to set up.
My mother and aunts would gather wood for a big bonfire. One of my uncles would set up a driftwood tripod over the fire and hang a pot of sea water so it would come to a boil. There would be potato salad, a jello salad, soda pops, chips and other picnic fare, but the main attractions were the Dungeness crabs.
I would go out with the men-folk to watch. They had a special measuring tool that showed what males and females looked like, and a the proper measure for taking. No female crabs could be taken. Only males over a certain size were allowed.
We would take only males over the size, and only the limit for each family, even though we would throw many of them back. My father and his brothers showed us kids what integrity was by example.
When we returned to our peninsula camp with the crabs my uncle's would proudly show off the crabs before plopping them straight into the boiling water.
I remember watching the crabs change color from the greenish brown of the live crabs to the bright red-orange when cooked.
My aunts would fish them out, let them cool, and then clean them.
I loved looking at the big shells of the backs.
And the flavor of them was wonderful.
@@TheFishLocker John I'm so sorry about the pots some ppl just have no respect for other ppls property.i can't wait to see the next video. As always sending love from the U.S to you and your family.

I learn something new every video I watch. You are so informational and a joy to watch 😊
It is our pleasure to share our videos and adventures with you.
I won't lie to ya, I got a mean shiver down my spine with you telling those thieves what to expect. I wouldn't want to see that side of you lol. Maybe if you went out once a day to check on the pots you might catch them. Or a gopro lashed to a pot? I don't know...I'm frustrated for you! Good on you for not letting it get to you. You do great things, John. Thank you for sharing and taking me along with you.
Any time Mike. 👍🏻
John, little ink trap at the door similar to shoplifting ones. Open trap the wrong way, face full of ink. See the blue face around town and you know who’s at it. 😉👍
I was thinking hand grenade, but ink works too.
I'm afraid of the ocean and I'm allergic to shellfish but I still enjoy watching your videos and I'm sorry that you've had a string of bad luck caused by other people but I really enjoy your attitude your knowledgeability, honesty and the way that you raise your son
Thank you for the kind comment. I am glad you enjoy the videos and have a great day. 😊👍🏻
A great video again John, unfortunately there are scumbags worldwide like those who felt they could profit from two serious cyber data breaches here in Australia. No one is safe from these 'low life creatures'. On the +ve side, a pretty good result from your crab exercise & typically relaxing listening to you & your fabulous knowledge that you so happily share & the way you take great care to conserve nature. Well done mate, cheers from Don in South Aust.
It’s disappointing about society when things like this happen isn’t it. I hope you are well mate and take care. 😊👍🏻🦀
there is one thing that always fascinated me... its the fact that they can regrow part of their body. I wish we could see a timelapse of a crab or lobster in a fishtank regrowing a claw. how awesome would that be! Thanks again for the quality content.
They are incredible creatures. 👍🏻
i love you for so many reasons. live long and prosper.

A crackin' haul John albeit marred by the obvious, I really hope you catch who did it and treat them to a session with the "Baseball bat of justice", thanks for sharing 👍🎣
The best kind of justice. 🤣
It would be nice to find them & show their hull a cordless drill.
@@georgebowden6748- I like your thinking!
Thanks John, another wonderful film. Your ethics and work ethos are such an inspiration. Keep smiling through these adversities. The culprits will most likely realise their wrongdoing at some point in their life and the remorse they feel will be punishment enough. I loved your latest film about fishing for blue sharks. The water was so calm, with a lovely swell that reminded me of my fishing days with my father and brother on the Firth of Clyde....many moons ago
I am glad that you enjoy joining us on our adventures Brian. Take care mate and stay safe. 😊👍🏻
Great video John, don't let them defeat you! You're using the wrong bait! A couple of ancillary items on the draw line intermittently placed catches the unsuspecting. 🤩
A couple of incediaries would work better. 🤣
Lively watch, beautiful backdrop with some fantastic results. Completely gutted towards the end, felt for you. Thanks for carrying on John
They won’t stop us mate. 😉🦀🦞
I always admire you’re passion for only keeping what’s legal and maintaining the population 👍
It’s the only way that this remains viable for when James is old enough.
Another delightful video full of smiles and informative narration on your fine boat John. Glad to see that you managed a reasonable haul of target species despite the low lifes, hopefully they will get their comeuppance one day. Thanks for all your hard work in putting these videos out.
These things have a way of balancing out mate. 👍🏻
I’m with you my man…
Bloody pirates.
You’re an inspiration
Make them walk the plank.
James...One thing you definitely need is a small winch to pull the pots. I know they have to be heavy because you've got some arms on you and you still struggle. That would kill me and take all the fun out of it. Also, it's so rewarding to see someone with integrity that has the vested interest in the sea and its creatures. I'm not sure how many people would throw back their catch if it was a millimeter or two to small. I think that is evidenced by the thieves who stole your catch. They need a lesson that will teach them the consequences of doing that and I don't mean a fine...something a bit more physical! That's where those big arms would come in handy. Be safe and best wishes!
A winch and hauler would ruin the boat and it’s balance. It’s a fishing boat I work pots from. Not a potting boat that I fish from. 😉
Always learning from you John! Yeah, it really sucks that people do not respect other people's property (and catch) and resort to stealing. You're a better man for shrugging it off your shoulders, but theft is still theft! Cheers to you mate! We enjoy your videos Sir!
Take care bud. 👍🏻🦀🦞

I feel your frustration with the low life messing with your pots, I know I would be fuming... sadly this is the mentality of people in this country that we live in and it's not getting any better, I'd like to hope you find out who it is so you can "have a word with them", I just hope you continue to film yourself pulling your pots because I enjoy watching these videos the most... I know many would go home and think "why do I bother" because its not just your time and the money running the boat, but it's the extra time you spend editing your videos once you get home.. I for one appreciate greatly...
It’s frustrating but they won’t stop me doing what I love.
That was the exact feeling I was having aswell John - that someone watching your videos were going for them.

I’ll have a think on how we can do that.
The backward thing is....If they steamed up to you while you were checking your pots and asked for a crab or a lobster, you may l give it to them....l can't understand the need to steal...When most times just ask!!! Don't steal farmers' crops....Trade your time for crops! Or just ask if you can have some. I'm a good cat fisherman. If people aren't having much luck, l'll give them the fish l catch....People always clean out my bait fish traps.....Ask me for some bait, and l'll give you some. Love your channel. I have watched James grow up over the years. I hope and pray he remains healthy.....You are clearly a fantastic father and great mentor. God bless from Ottawa Ontario 😊

The positives are the filming, the explanations, and the effort you put in to keeping your viewers entertained. The negatives are the thieves that just ruin what you endeavor to bring us. I hope one day you catch up with them. I thought it was tourists but at this time of year I think you must be right in your assumption. Don't let the b******s get you down.
It is worst during tourist season, but this is locals.
Love how gentle you were with the mother lobsters❤
And I hope those grimy thieves choked on a crab!
Haha. That would be good justice.
I also assume that the perpetrator is also disregarding rules and size limits. You probably would have happily have given someone in need what was in the pots. It's how violated it makes you feel. Well, I'm sorry to open my first communication to you on a ugly first note. I total enjoy your videos, so much I subscribed and hit the notification button (bell). It's total from harvesting to the dinner plate. Funny how I need to snack during your "cook" portion of the videos. It's shear comfort food. I commend you on your moral compass and sense of fair play, I wish you and your family the grace of God, happiness and good health. I'm "hooked" on the Fish Locker.👍👍

Good to see you're still hauling it in over there. I know I just recently saw Alaska canceled it's snow crab harvest this year for the first time after a huge population decline from warming waters, and after previous king crab harvest cancelations too. Not looking so good 😕
I just read that today too. Good that they are being proactive like that.
That’s a shame too hear their numbers are down. Especially for the Alaskan folk where fishing is a way of life for many..

It's why I love your channel...
Remind's me of stories from over the pond...
Thanks for your channel 😊
It is our pleasure Julie. We are simply sharing what we love doing. 😊🦀
Love your vlogs & always learn something new..So sorry though tht there’s some scumbags pulling your pots
Sadly Tracy they are in every walk of life.
The highlight of my day when I receive notifications that your videos are up 🥹
That’s so sweet. 😊
John I’m so sorry about your pots. Thievery is the most frustrating thing. I hope you catch them. 😊
Me too.
Best of luck finding the leeches. Great video.
Thanks Paul. 😊🦀
Another great vid! I want to see you do more cooking.
Wait and see.
Shame about the pots, perhaps a small and cheap GPS tracker in a waterproof box so you can see when they are being lifted. If you make it public that you are doing it hopefully it will be enough of a deterrence.
It wouldn’t stop them and unless they were stolen and I found them in their van it wouldn’t catch anyone.
Lace a small part the rope with razor blades or fish hooks that will teach the bastards a lesson ,, if farmers can use barbed wire on fences to protect themselves and their work ..
@Andy Johnson i was thinking this but if they are scummy enough to take crabs and lobsters then itd be like a lottery win finding a £200+ camera in a pot!
A ring doorbell on the pots !! That’s what you need
@@mattanstis9227 imagine it every time a conger tries getting the crabs out the pots, "motion detected at the front door" every 5 minutes while John is trying to get a kip 🤦🏻♂️🤣🤣🤣
Yet Another entertaining video JL. We've never seen you re-baiting the pots though. Maybe in a future video? Thanks for sharing.
I’ve done it in several of the older videos. It’s just a messy job that some folks might not enjoy so I leave it out.
It's wonderful to see more than one post a week from you John. I love your content and you are so down to earth that it's quite a treat to see you more often. I wonder if someone, somewhere has some kind of tag that could be linked to your phone or PC that alerts you when your pots are lifted off the seabed? Maybe taking the shark tags concept to another level? Always gonna be assholes out there that capitalize on other peoples work. Just seems like there has to be some way to catch these fucking poachers red handed. Maybe leave a "I know who you are" note in a waterproof tube for the pricks the next time they haul your pots. Might put the fear of whomever into their thieving asses. Anyway, another great post brother, and keep doing the good work! Love home, and kiss the family for me.
Thank you Greg. I have pushed myself to maintain 2 uploads a week for the last 6 months but as the weather gets worse I don’t think I will be able to continue it into November/December. Sadly there is nothing that would stop this from happening 100%. Short of sitting and watching them 24 hours a day - which just isn’t viable. I hope you are doing well my friend and take care of yourself. 😊💙
Great video John as usual but marred by the scroats who have lifted and stole your catch , as you said there are a lot of scumbags around and they will get there comeuppance one way or another, love catching your videos always love em and I Always think how quick James is growing away and his knowledge of fishing is growing , keep them coming mate and I hope you don't have the scroats around again take care mate
Hopefully we don’t see them again.
I Hate a thief!! Many years ago we had a poacher killing deer. He was arrested several times before. Once again he is back! I dumped 12 tons of Cow Crap 🐄 all over his Brand New truck, absolutely buryed it .our local Sheirriff told me what I did was a mistermener. I played dumb, I said, if I were really mean I would have rolled the trucks windows down! TRUE STORY 👍
Haha. Good justice.
John, Mate I love watching your videos, they teach me so much and help me feel like I,m actually getting out more than I really am.
Sorry about the scumbags that are targeting you. Why is it that when you try and help people by giving them all this info, they pay you back like this?
Anyway keep up the great work - Andy
Sadly mate, that is just the world we live in. 😊👍🏻🦀
I’m so sorry that your pots keep getting pinched. I’m astounded at how you keep so calm.
I’m not about to let some A hole ruin my mood and my day.
