I just want to start this by saying we are all citizens of this earth. The Grand Canyon is one of the true marvels of the world that everyone should see. It is so grand and so big that no matter how many pictures you take of it or stories you tell cannot put into context truly how magnificent it is to see.

I visited the grand canyon as a 12 year old kid in 1975, and let me tell you. Those memories are burned so hard into my brain that when i close my eyes sometimes, it almost feels like im there again. Standing at the rim in just complete awe of what i was seeing in front of me. The look on your face when the sun was rising, and you walked out towards the rim, let me know that in 40 years you will be watching these memories when you close your eyes. They are forever etched into your soul.... That is a gift to be treasured for sure. As always, stay safe my frenchtastic friend........oh yea.....that shot where you were able to write frenchtastic in the snow with that view.....just wow. Im so happy for you

And Marie wants to ride the elk. LOL!! In the mating season the males make the most eerie trumpeting sound you ever heard. It can be heard for miles. The common theory is that the Grand Canyon was carved by the Colorado River over millions of year. (I think that is still the most common) But some geologist think a great ice dam broke loose in some glacial period & a massive torrent of water (bigger than we can imagine) formed most of it a few weeks. I'm not quite old enough to know for sure.

My family was fortunate enough to visit Sedona, Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon a few years back, pictures don't do it justice, it is far more beautiful than the pictures suggest. And some people run to the bottom and back in 1 day. It’s a beautiful ride which I did about 10 years ago. We stayed 1 night. It is 20 to 30 degrees hotter at the bottom.

Hi Marie!!! I have always wanted to see The Grand Canyon, and now I have, thanks to FrenchTastic - thank you Marie 🥰🥰! At least you were dressed warmly for the -10 degrees you met at the Canyon - brrrrr 🥶🥶 ! And my, oh my, you had such a big beautiful smile as you first saw the Canyon 😊! There was so much snow, due to the high elevation of where you were visiting, and the sunrise view over the Canyon was truly breathtaking 🤗🤗 . Looking across the Canyon you see so many colors like red, purple, orange, shades of brown, deep green, light gray and gray, and the blue of the river - amazing and lovely. Coffee on top of the Grand Canyon is a pleasure to remember 🥰. The flat top of the viewing points you were filming were so cool for looking down into the mile deep Canyon! Love those names (Yavapai Observation Station and Bright Angel Lodge) and those cute horses you found! The snow on the ledges that lead down the canyon was really decorative (you visited it at a Grand time} 😍! The absolute best sign you filmed was "FrenchTastic 🥰" in the snow ("this is where I jump" lol 😮😮😂😂) ! The dogs were sleepy early in the morning it looks like, but they really got going in their cute warm coats later on! The Rim Trail on the Canyon's South Rim was perfect to bus along. Oh Marie, how fun and wonderful to encounter the elks (so many!), and the BEST was you and the beautiful elk looking at each other (the elk was smiling at this lovely FrenchTastic lady visiting the park 🤗🤗) Wow, when the sun rose more, you could see clearly even a larger range of pretty colors on layer upon layer of water-formed canyon sides, along with the Colorado River below. The ride you went along showed so many snow- covered mountains along the way. Then you did get to hike that Red Mountain Trail in the Coconino National Forest, and that was really intriguing that the footing was so difficult to climb on! (Awwhhhhh, I am SO SORRY that you caught a 3-week cold 😥😥) As you filmed those pillars together, reaching toward the top of the Canyon, with all their layers and pointed tops, we could see how smooth the rocks became from that carving water flow that created them - wow 😲😲❗That was also so cool to see that boulder balanced in place on top of those two peak points ! All those formations you showed us were glorious to see, as was watching you enjoying the immensity and beauty as you visited the one and only Grand Canyon, with your FrenchTastic smile and grace and commentary in your fabulous video 🤗🤗😍😍! Thank you so much again, Marie, and take care and be safe everyday, please, 🙏🙏😇😇🥰🥰.

The Canyon is a lot of fun and a really special place, being a native Arizonan my family has camped there many times and we always have enjoyed it. My wife and daughter have made the hike down from the south rim and camped down below, they loved it. The elk there are so used to humans, it's scares me as those are big animals and they can get nasty, I have seen a lot of people go up to them, but none hurt yet but it still is concerning. Give them a little space, especially mother's with babies.
You seem big into the out doors and hiking and new things. If so, I would recommend the hike up the ranger station on Escudilla mountain in eastern Arizona. It's about 2 miles each way, but obviously going up at 10,000 feet is much harder than going down, but when you reach the top, it's spectacular. Lot's of wildlife as it's a "wilderness area", bears, mountain lion and my parents personally saw a Jaguar up there, they almost hit it when it ran out in front of their vehicle. They were a little shocked to say the least, so take precautions if you go and make sure you are in a group.

❤❤❤ Well done, Marie. There is no successful trip to Arizona without getting to The Canyon. As a kid, I thought I might be afraid of heights. Turns out I'm not. And you know it's deep when they tell you that tiny Colorado River at the bottom is 100 meters wide. Someday, I hope to make it to the bottom. We'll see. So much beautiful scenery. And now that I think of it, it's probably much more comfortable in March as opposed to July. Treasure these memories, babe. That's another curly W.

those were mules. Horse/donkey mix. Very sure footed and calm compared to a horse. That way you don't fall off a cliff when you ride them down to the bottom of the canyon.

All the beauty - and the canyon looked good too - what I was focused on was the puppers were on the visit too.

  • @christopheryochum3602

Wow! That was scary, Marie! You were standing right on the edge and could've fallen in. I guess they couldn't put a fence around the entire canyon. Also scary was when you followed the dogs into that tight path within the rocks. I thought you would get lost forever and never find your way out! :)

There is another canyon in northern Arizona that a lot of folks have never heard of.
Just under 100 miles SSE of Monument Valley lies Canyon de Chelly, pronounced de shay. It is rather different from the Grand Canyon, a bit of a cross between being an incredible canyon with a dash of monumental rock formations thrown in.
We were going to go there on our tour of northern AZ; Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Canyon de Chelly, Oak Creek Canyon/Slide Rock, Sedona then home, but we spent more time in a few places than we planned on.

Yes indeed. Been to Canyon de Chelly and it was amazing. Located in the Navajo Nation, and parts of the canyon floor are still being farmed (for thousands of years). There are also a few ancient house ruins that were built into the canyon walls. Of course not as deep or wide as GC, but the walls are more sheer. Standing near edge with the floor ~900 feet straight down will put your heart in your throat in a way that even the GC didn't do.

I'll never get to travel to the Grand Canyon so to see it through your video was amazing! I also love those pups of yours. They have such good manners waiting for you every few feet. lol They look like they needed the sleep after that hike. It's too bad you caught such a long lasting cold but I'm glad you got to see such amazing things. Thank you for the video.

The reason it's colder at the Grand Canyon than at Phoenix is the Grand Canyon is at a much higher elevation. My wife and I drove from Tucson to the Grand Canyon and watched the landscape change as the elevation changed.

Marie, did you happen to take a walk down either of the trails that goes down into the canyon? It is about 6 miles down to the water on the South Kaibab trail and probably about 9 miles down via the Bright Angel trail. The view from inside the canyon gives you an entirely new and different perspective. If you didn't do it this time make plans to do at least part of it on your next visit to the Grand Canyon.

This is what happens when an ephemeral wash gets on steroids. Just kidding, the river is not an ephemeral wash. Welcome to our greatest erosional feature! And, one of the places any tourist to the US should visit! In college, I went down and up in one day with a full pack (expecting to camp at the bottom). I don't recommend that. Peace, Love!!

Howdy Marie, If you are still in PHX, I recommend you go east to Superior, and see Boyce Thompson Arboretum. It is a park, at the bottom of a spectacular mountain that has trails thru various desert environments from around the world. The plants and scenery are beautiful, but the wild life is the main draw. I recommend being there when they open at 6am. The hiking is easy, but you will get to see some wild life up close.

Nice to see you went to Red mountain. It's one of my wifes favourite places because she's a geologist and like the entire San Franciso volcanic field. She likes looking for the small black nodules you find eroded out from the rock at Red mountain. I hope one day you get to return and climb to the top of Mt Humphry's. It's a spectacular hike.
