Been watching for years and went through first course few weeks ago. Literally increased my comprehension and skills from Sunday to Sunday. Every week was gradual and noticeable change in every worship set. Definitely enrolling in the this one
Iâve always raked leading with index as itâs the stronger finger for me and and the timing is so much tighter on the one or the downbeat. When practising within a band setting - make the time to play through the songs WITH JUST YOU AND THE DRUMMER. No other instruments - for me that sharpens your tightness no end. If you canât play the whole song without the other parts - you donât know yours!
Very true! :)
Me and my drummer did this a lot in that day, and we led the songs because we could play them with no one else.
This is SOLID advice.
@@stephenpretti984 Itâs invaluable. It should change what youâre playing and how because you will finally actually hear all the accenting or kick drum placings you couldnât hear when jamming it out with the whole band. You can then lock in with those accents and rhythmic pointers to emphasise what the groove is meant to feel like. You and the drummer should be symbiotic. Youâre the foundations everyone else builds on so make it a solid as you can!
For me somehow the stronger finger was the middle. But I really tried hard to get both fingers close in the raking ability. Now I sometimes wonder what my stronger finger was LOL :-)
I did the the course last year. Highly recommended,. it fixed some of my bad habits and now I'm playing cleaner and faster like Scott says. I think the course price is great value for what you get out of it, provided you put in the work.
Richard Bona is so good and sweet!! but I caught you Scott, you have already done a lesson on this very imperative technique (which I elaborated naturally) and I agree with you, it's never a bad thing to recall everyone the fondamentals and all the things that we cannot avoid to get better!! learning comes through repetition isn't it? I often go watch your old videos cause learning is so vaste....you're thje best bass teacher on youtube (other are good too) but I really do like how clear is your pedagogy , how you see music and bass in general, and how you can give advices for all different kinds of players, level, styles etc..and you have no musical prejudices, it's very open and I very enjoy it (like you can recognize the genius in Jaco as well as in Aston Barrett or any other good bass player in any kind of music..that's how you recognize a true music passionate)
I've been working on raking for about 10 months. It was really awkward at first, needing to be really deliberate on short scale descents, and be sure to focus on timing too. Gradually worked up to all strings, full scale, and metronome. I.e. the 10-day technique challenge! I almost don't have to think about it any more, but descending drills are still quite useful, and a great warm-up.
Ahhh, fantastic Scott!
Wonderful shirt, wonderful bass playing and advice. Looks like a win-win to me!
Hi Scott ! Love the instructions and teaching on the GREATEST INSTRUMENT .the bass guitar ! Im learning . Learning from your great videos . Thank you sir ! Now ..Mr.Bill Wyman . ...Emotional Rescue .woooowwaa! .Thanks Scott ! Thanks Bill !
This was actually the one thing that I stuck at when going through the start of Scott's courses, even more than a lot more advanced stuff. I just couldn't get it so just stuck with alternate. Not much chance Scott would think I was a great bassist but it's worked for me to the level I'm happy with.
While Soldiering in Germany my friends and would have an ugly shirt night at the local club. Who ever had the ugliest shirt, as voted by the fellow patrons, had his pints paid for that night. All good fun with live music, cold and tasty beverages and great conversation.
Now, back to bass..
Thanks for everything you do Scott!
AMAZING idea, lol!
The reason when I started playing music again and didn't pick up the guitar again, was simply. I prefer to use my fingers on my right hand to dominate the strings and groove! Not my left hand, I have little idea what I'm doing on the fret board, and I'm not good with a pick!
Plus 4 strings and an amp can shake the house!
Love the shirts! Thank you for addressing right hand technique.
another cool video, thanks!!! salute from France
Cheers, Hugo!
This REALLY GOOD I did it and the benefits have been Great, however if you want to participate in the live part of it , just make sure you don't have a full time job as there are no evening sessions to the live Technique accelarator part.
Thank you, Mr. Devine for this video. I've played bass since 1978 but I still want to learn. If I don't then I'll be stagnent, yes? About technique: I don't try to play at 180mph. I focus on the bass drum. And one of my personal techniques is to do something that any bass player, new or experienced, can do. I often will cut off my note just as the snare drum hits. That gives the drums (my other half) more emphasis when I play my note and then cut off my note just milliseconds before the SD hits. Thank you for your videos! Keep 'em coming. And the shirt looks great!!
I use my thumb for everything, that is how Leo Fender envisioned the bass, as being played with the thumb and using the tug bar for the fingers
Hi Scott and i love the shed style better! And I am a Raker too.I have always lead with my middle, and I lead with that for raking too.i am a big fan of Mohini Dey too and she is great at this. BUT my question is -if you use raking a lot ,isn't there a logical danger that in pursuit of 'better ' facility, you'll end up predominantly using descending licks/phrases ?
I did the course last year. It improved my playing a lot. Some things you might underestimate ...for example: practicing accenting notes like "on the 1", then on the 2 and so on. Accents on triplets, and on groups of 5. It gives so much to your precision, timing and speed. And in Scotts course is a ton more of such helpfull stuff. Be sure to do ALL of the exercises to get the full benefit from the course. There is not one exercise you should skip! Enjoy beeing a better bass player! ;-)
Shirt is awesome. I'm entirely here because your newsletter mentioned it...
Summery? In that hat?
Lol, awesome!
Liking primarily for the shirt, Scott. Love it!
Orange you glad you wore that shirt? I know I am! Keep rocking Scott! đ€đ»
You too, Scott!
And the matching took I mean đ€đđ€
What a great shirt! Not sure orange is your color (what do I know đ) but that shirt is fantastic.
This shirt is so rad Scott!!!
Best shirts, EVER! Keep em coming =)
Will do! ;)
I've always wanted to learn how to play with that speed.... I'll give it a shot đ
Great Lesson, Great Shirt
that shirt is genious. youve started something solid here. Next gig is all about those shirts for me, forget new strings
YES, Paul!
I've been waiting for so long for you to talk about Richard in one of your videos. He's not that famous, but dude, he should be! And he can sing as well!
100%... he's a genius!
Great Shirt Scott! I've got loads the 'em in my closet. I'm wearing one in my pic to the left with Christian McBride. Turns out I saw a pic of me talking with John Lockwood and I was wearing the same shirt that night.
That shirt is amazing, absolutely lives up to the hype.
Ha - cheers James! đ
Cameroon where Bona hails from, is Bass Nation. Shocking amount of Bassists over there. Their Music called 'Makossa' is so Bass-centric đđż
Incidentally, I've always focused more on my plucking hand. I pluck/play with three fingers on my plucking hand đ
I better shift focus to my fretting hand đ
whats your string gauge?
Could you link that Richard Bona live clip?
Love the shirt!
Fantastic shirt!
Dude, the shirt Rocks!
That what I told her! đ
does this cost extra in addition to the subscription to Scotts bass lessons?
Shirt looks đ„đȘđŸđȘđŸđŻ
What a great shirt. Donât let her throw it away. Send it to me if it has to go.
Lol, will do Stephen :)
Amazing shirt!
That's an amazing shirt, boss! Orange looks good on you.... I need this outfit. đ€Ł
Lol... YES! :)
CARRY ON LAD !!!! LOVE THE SHIRT !!!
Cheers Joe!
Need to watch more of SBL than Davie504. âïžđâïž
â€đ better start raking in the shed đđ„đ„đ„
La blusa tenĂa estilo, pero la camisa sin mangas estĂĄ excelente. Parece una 'guayabera' latina.
The shirt: The well coordinated hat makes it awesome like a jazz line with all the wrong notes that makes it right!
There's not much to say on this myself. Raking has always come/felt natural.
However, my right hand still does need some (lots of) work. Signing up for Technique Accelerator this year!
Other than that, that shirt is BA, and I would do the same to my wife đ
đȘ đ đ
Its hard work to sound right on bass indeed. The technique for playing bass is really hard ittakes a lot of practice
That shirt is swag :)
YUS! đȘ
How about a series of videos on hand health?
Great shirt!
YES! :)
Love your shirt.
I just got home from watching Richard Bona here i Portugal... Massive..
My Brother, a Viola-Player, used to say: With the left Hand yo make Tones, but with the right hand You make Music.
Beautiful guitar. What's it called?
Itâs an Fbass BN5 - killer bass!
Nice shirt Scott... I too have a shirt the wife didn't approve of... lol
As for raking I've always raked... I never even knew it had a name it just seemed like the logical thing to do. "Work smarter not harder
EXACTLY! đȘ
I love the shirt đ
Me too, lol
hello scott i know thats you in the heavenly colour shirt i bet thats a game changer shirt congrats
That's an incredible shirt đ€©
Hi, That's a great shirt. I love it.
YUS! đ
Man, I love that shirt!
Oh,about shirts: Everyone makes t-shirts with their logo on them. I dig that. But I prefer work shirts. A dark grey shirt with a collar. Print out some SBL shirts like a work shirt and I will buy 'em! :-)
Ha! Joke's on you, my fretting hand is absolute rubbish. I'm developing a decent slap-pop and 3-finger tremolo tho đ đ
That's a pretty cool shirt actually!
That's what I thought. My wife... not so much ;)
Ey scott, which bass is that
That shirt is AMAZING! đ Don't understand why your wife doesn't like it, it's so happy and colorful!
I KNOW! đđ
I KNOW! đđ
do love your Dominick Commings look! ;)
Your wife has a point about that shirt, man. But it pairs nicely with the hat, which saves it for me. đ
đđđ
The hated shirt debut is finally here!
It IS! đ
Boss top mate
That beautiful shirt looks like something I would purchase and wear! đđđŻđ„°đ€łđïž

"guitar is all about the right hand" -- Keith Richards
My first wife was a seamstress.. lol .. she taught me how to use a sewing machine and I then made a very Hawaiian shirt, which I actually still have cos itâs pretty awesome, like way more so than you know who
Being a bass player means wearing cool Hawaiian shirts!!! Fantastic!!!!
I like your shirt đđœ
3k views after two hours??!? I have a similar shirt that my wife hates. I already have all the prior accelerator programs . Do I need this ?
Lol, I love those shirts, Hawaiian style but my wife HATE them! đ€Ł
I would definitely wear that shirt.
That's a great shirt
Love the shirt! Can I have it?
I love that shirt.
Reikin master !
Cool Shirt!
YES! :)
@@devinebass Hey feel better dude!
And when you're doing it right and someone else don't, you can't focus on anything but his right hand doing it wrong
The hat matches the drapes....đ
sound check: is this mic on?
What do you think of MISA of BAND-MAID? In case you don't know about her she uses a hybrid technique of pick and slap. Check her out . . . czcams.com/video/cYFZ0L8Ncqs/video.html
I'm so glad you played in a key OTHER than C. Spread the love to other keys, yes??? FLAT keys!!!
Itâs a bold shirt. My wife quietly chucks out anything of mine she doesnât like.
It certainly is ;)
What about his cap....
I LIKE YOUR SHIRTS
That shirt is something lol Wowers
Lol... my wife agree's with you, Mike! ;)
HAHAHAHAHA ! Brilliant shirt XD
2nd we need same reward
they're just jealous Scott.
or they just don't acknowledge the reality. even it's existance perhaps
but you know
HAIL TO THIS EXQUISITE SHIRT
sound is in peek
Looks like an âAloha shirtâ. I have over 100 of those in my collection. Iâll trade you one (whichever one your wife hates the most) in exchange for enrollment in your 6 month course! ; )
That shirt IS a bit nerdly. The previous flowered Hawaiian shirt was much more YOU!
I solved this problem by hiring someone to play my right hand techniques
;)
Couldn't quite hear you over the shirt. Cool video nonetheless.
LOL đ
