  • Global Entry and TSA PreCheck are a great way to upgrade your travel. Though it can be expensive, which is why I recommend using a credit card that offers a credit for the program. In this video, we'll review the cards that offer a credit for Global Entry and TSA PreCheck, and share tips if you're looking to apply for these programs.

    Have you paid for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck using one of these cards? Do you have any other card suggestions for those looking for a GE or TSA PreCheck credit? 🤓

    Just flew back from the Philippines and the Mobile Passport line was tremendously shorter than Global entry line getting back into the US. Especially when traveling with family it was well worth the money to bypass the immigration line. This was also recommended by my friend that works for DHS.

      Thanks for sharing! Glad to hear that you were able to get through the shorter line with Mobile Passport. 😎

    Invaluable info Earnest, I was just approved this month for global entry and used my American Express Platinum Card. Bare in mind it can take several months to process. I do also recommend the personal talk if you want specific advice on maximizing your card set up. Thanks again for the great content my west coast friend. M.. Moore

    My AmEx Platinum credit paid for Global Entry, and the renewal (that took 8 months for approval). Awesome credit card benefit.

    Hands down the IHG Premier. $89 you get Global Entry/Precheck, free anniversary night, and since it's a World Elite Mastercard you get cellphone protection and other little benefits. Plus the sign up bonus is bananas right now. And you also get Platinum Elite status for when you stay at IHG properties. This card IMO gets you what I feel in expected value is at least $200. For $89 you cant beat it.

    • @TripAstute

      I completely agree. The amount of value from the card is hard to beat! 👍

    I currently have the Amex Platinum and the Chase Ritz Carlton cards. I used the Ritz Carlton benefit to pay for the Global Entry for myself and my fiance at that time because I utilized the free extra card holder I get with this card getting this done for $200.00 FREE. Also I have the new Penfed Visa Signature Pathfinder card. I got this card when it was the Penfed Amex Pathfinder card. As you said it offers Global Entry also. I didn't get this card for Global Entry obviously. I got it for the $100.00 travel credit with the no annual fee. A no brainer keeper card. And I heard the new benefits being added on makes this card a very good travel card at NO ANNUAL FEE!!!

      I'd have to say this is definitely a "YMMV" type of thing. I recently came back from the UK with a friend who doesn't have Global Entry. I got him to use mobile passport, while I used Global Entry. I still got to spend about 30 min waiting on him at Starbucks after collecting my bag.

      I'm surprised that that decision hasn't been reversed. I can't imagine that there isn't a resolution that works for both sides.

    • @healthychick9450
      @healthychick9450 Před 4 lety

      The resolution is for our governor to stop blocking access of the federal government to records. Because we have politicians in ny that care more about illegal people than tax paying citizens, this is why we are in this situation. There are consequences to silly policies. Unfortunately I and other new yorkers are being punished for this.

    It's a good video if you already have any of those cards. I dont see the benefits of applying for more cc, then pay for annual fees that are more expensive than GE.

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  Před 4 lety +1

      I think it depends on the situation. If I had a family member that needed Global Entry or TSA PreCheck, I might be inclined to get a card like the Capital One Venture or IHG Reward Club Premier. That way, at least I'm earning a large welcome offer along with the credit to offset the fee, or in the case of the IHG card, a free hotel night stay every year.

      Do you mean for Mobile Passport? If so, you definitely need to have a valid US Passport to use it. You also need one if you're applying for Global Entry. 😊

    Hey Ernest, this is a great video; however, I wanted to know what you think about this new credit card management site (walletflo.com)? I'm starting to attain more cards so I want a way to manage all of them... Do you think this is the best app to use? Would you do a video on the top three (3) apps to use? Thanks

      @@TripAstute Cool thanks, I'm looking forward to it--you make very good detailed videos--I usually learn a lot from them. Everyone in this "space" all talk about getting 10, 15, 20 cards to play this game well; however, no one talks about how one should or can manage that many cards and qualifying rules to attain them.

    Do you have to buy your ticket with the United card to get the benefits or just having it is enough. I am talking first bag free, priority boarding etc.

    • @stephencsoma564
      @stephencsoma564 Před 4 lety

      Usually yes

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  Před 4 lety

      It's mixed. I believe the free check-in bag requires that you use the card for the ticket purchase. However, the priority boarding and award seat availability are connected to your United account, so they are not dependent on you using the United Explorer card for purchases. Since I usually travel with carry-on only, I tend to purchase my tickets on my CSR instead of the United Explorer card.

    Problem is how LONG it takes for the Global Entry application to even get reviewed! I submitted my complete application on December 2, 2019, and it's now 3 MONTHS later and it still hasn't even been looked at! Status is still listed as pending on the website. I think it'll take at least 8 months for approval, if not a whole year, based on other forums I've read. Ridiculous.

    • @kk4649k

      Mine took 6months. I did it last year when the government shutdown hit so it had a note at top of screen saying there’s a delay in the process. It’s not that bad and once it’s pre approved there’s only an in person interview which you can do on your way back from an international trip.

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  Před 3 lety

      Sorry if you felt misled. The point of the video is that you are interested in getting Global Entry, you should consider a card that reimburses the application fee (rather than paying for it). Most people would end up ahead using this strategy.
