Gonna have to get the spray for the ticks...i scout and am a land surveyor. i am fighting Lymes right now actually.
Some go on about "busting" buck bedding areas. But they dont understand that this country is populated in a way that deer will be around and smell humans. You have bird watchers, hikers, mushroomers etc.... in the woods all the time and the bucks come back once they are gone....if a buck never came back to a spot due to human activity they would have no spots to go to...ha....
love the show....been watching yall since back in the MW days.....

Great video! This is exactly what I want to see. I found a buck nest last season that looked just like that spot. I was walking in blind to a new area and busted up a monster. I was never sure how to hunt it. After Aaron's explanation of how he was planning on hunting that spot, I paused the video to pull up OnX and try to apply what I learned. I need to get in there and scout it this week to look for trails around it. Hopefully that buck survived the season and is still using that area. You guys are getting me amped for September!

Good video , I’ve used the Sawyer permethrin a couple of seasons and have had great results. If you would like to save some money you can mix your own. I use Martin’s 10% and dilute it down to the same 0.5% as the Sawyer brand. Just make sure you get the solution/dilution formula correct and that it doesn’t contain any petroleum distillate. Have the same great results with the Martin’s mixture.

Can't wait for the season to start hunting but it's really important to scout out different spots to hunt before the season starts That way you have other places in case other hunters get to a spot before you or the deer just aren't there
Also you can use other hunters to your advantage

Wish you guys would do a public land challenge in the big woods hill/mountain country public land of PA. Cell service is non existent and there are not many features to hunt other than ridge to ridge. No swamps or AG to speak of and very little clear cuts to hunt that are not ridiculously pressured. You can walk miles between deer sign and it is very light to say the least. I got so lost scouting as a young fella I still have nightmares about it. I basically threaded the eye of a needle and stumbled on a road or my bones would be still undiscovered. This was before before GPS. Even with GPS it would take giant stones to walk six or ten miles In with just a little jug of water....

The summer bedding areas may not quite work in the fall especially if there are farming lands in proximity up to 1mi from those areas. When crops approach harvesting time almost all the deer start feeding on them. Then they make bedding somewhere nearby. The big forested terrains is another story.

I love this channel and if anyone else can answer this as well I'd appreciate it, another channel I'm fond of watching often speaks on bucks you get on camera and find in the summer will not be there in the fall. What has been everyone else's experience as far as scouting and returning to hunt and the fall? Also I hunt about 80% public land if that helps in the discussion at all. Also if the hunting public guys have time to answer this that would be great as well

    • @ryanreynolds3679
      @ryanreynolds3679 Pƙed 4 lety +1

My take on that is that bucks are going to break up. As you can see in this video multiple bucks are probably bedding in that first area Aaron walks into. However in the fall, only one buck may be using that area. So if you find a spot like this, it may still be worth hunting. A good plan I think would be to put cameras on the trails to the bedding area at least 150-200 yards away and try to play the wind when you go check that camera. Maybe come in early in the morning to check the camera. If a buck is frequenting that trail back to bed, hunt it.

I'm glad you're mentioning permethrine and the tick problem. ThereHas only been one other video I've ever heard talk about ticks in the Spring summer and fall and that is a completely different Galaxy from the hunting channel lol.
But it's good to hear people who have a big platform like you guys talk about ticks and preventive maintenance to stop ticks from giving you Lyme disease using permethrine specifically.
I bought a set of gators that have a netting fish netting type stuff around the outside and the gator fabric is injected in soaked in permethrine so as the ticks climb or try to climb up that netting and get stuck it slows them down in the permethrine actually killed them I know that because I tested it.
This is a huge problem Especially down South and the East Coast as far as I know, I don't know how it is out West when it comes to ticks. But if anybody work to take any bit of information away from this video this little section of the video you're talking about permethrine is the best advice you could give. That is actually potentially saving somebody's life Or from a lifetime of hell dealing with Lyme disease. If caught in time like the day the tick burrows in to you you can get to a hospital and get pumped full of a ridiculously strong it are by Arctic that I think makes some people sick but it kills the Lyme disease before it can start or spread

I just did some scouting on a price of private, it’s 60 acres of thick woods and drops into a swamp, I did find a lot of deer crap ,trails some beds, the leaves on the shrubs where eaten but no rubs, no historical rubs nothing, I did put up some cameras so I’ll find out if there are bucks in the area but something tells me it’s doe territory only. Any thoughts?

Maybe try a cellular trail cam to eliminate ruining the area.

They don’t come check the cameras every week. They leave them out until fall

We’ll leave them out all fall if they are in or around the bedding areas. Only time we’ll come in here is to hunt
