- Matt has been in leadership positions for the last 20 years and has been conducting research in to the ‘common denominator’ of great leaders over the past two years. Matt will share insight into a few of those most common denominators and use these findings to offer advice to the next generation of leaders. Leadership is there within us all, we just need to know how to harness it.
Matt was educated and awarded at Coventry University, Cambridge University and Harvard Business School. However, his early career path began as a racing cyclist, where he represented a French racing team and also represented Great Britain. Starting on a graduate program at Rolls Royce Aerospace, at just 26 years old, Matt was offered a Director role within the Rolls-Royce Civil Aerospace business. His next challenge took him into the service industry as a Managing Director within Serco PLC and he has since held Chief Operating Officer position at National Express and Vix.
Matt now owns APT Business Solutions and advises organisations such as Transport for the North, Transport for Greater Manchester and is an associate in GLG New York. He is about to publish a book on the importance of emotional and social intelligence in leadership.
He is still a keen cyclist, a multi-rated pilot and arranges charity events for children charities such as BLISS and Clic Sargent.

Talk about a dead crowd... Great talk, Matt.
That pilot doesn't get his drive and passion from visualization. His drive and passion to be perfect in the air require him to do the visualization rehearsals. He didn't even attempt to do any of those maneuvers in the air before "chair flying" them. There is no margin for error in precision aerobatics.
I'm sorry. So much about this talk is backwards and unrealistic. It speaks of a constant high intensity that just does not exist in really successful leaders. And the research actually is all over the place on these aspects of passion and charisma. A slow burning fire is more powerful than an explosion.

I always thought that high intensity passion is what actually makes a great leader that seeing them will inspire others to follow, and humility to know we won't be best one in the team. what do u think of my idea of a leader

I think ego in a leader can be good... but only in the case that that ego is tied with him/her being a good person/people's person, If someone criticizes a leader with a ego that he/she wasn't humanist enough in a scenario, they will bend over backwards to make it right in the eye of their naysayers. So all in all, people are complex, there are no 100% strict guidelines to what makes or breaks a great leader (or person in all), but generally, being empathic (which can also be a huge burden) and having the ability to infect people around you with passion are 2 major traits I see.

I’ve been at my job for 23 years and as a leader for 16 I found it difficult at times to talk to someone staff and other employees are great to talk to most my employees will do almost anything that I asked them I want to recognize them and a great fashion also to be a better leader at times I get very frustrated and my emotions take over

"Your perception of yourself has to be as close to other people's reality as possible." What if the people around us perceive us to be normal. What if they expect us to not achieve more than them?

cognitiong gap, try whatever you can to stick with your goal, and the goal have to be beneficial to whole group,then..you have done righteous, no regret.
Mostly I hear motivational speakers saying "other's perception of you ain't none of your business." What he is saying is exactly opposite so I've got some issues too on this point.
I had this problem. In this case, you just continue with your perception of yourself. Knowing when you are right and others are wrong is vital. When i got the success others couldnt see in me, it never felt so good.

One thing this guy does is generalize too much, there are many types of leaders, Sadam Hussein could lead, yeah, he was authoritarian and autocratic, but perhaps that is what that country needed, Democracy is not working out so well. Yeah, I checked your stats, media aside (agreed. who can you trust?) yes NYSE and unemployment are low, all good signs for TRUMP. anyone that looks at graphics can see that this has been the steady trend for 8 years, down with unemployment and up with the NYSE. no change since he took office. Yes he is pro big business and this could theoretically (only) encourage spending by business, but this has little to do with the NYSE or unemployment.

Seriously Barack Obama? He’s one of the worst leaders that we’ve ever had. Why are TEDTalks so left leaning. I voted for Obama twice I don’t mind that I voted for him the first time but the second time I feel like we could’ve done better.
I think Obama had a huge ego. He wouldn't listen to anyone. Obama Care only hurt us. I laugh at "we could do better." Every election I say the same thing, "Out of 300 million people these two are the best we got."
