Looks like my kind of job! Is your job always like this everyday or do you work with software also? I really like working hands on with hardware, but i dont mind learning software and doing helpdesk stuff either.
It depends on where you work. I work in a school district in IT support. My job is about an equal mix of hardware and software support. For hardware work, we upgrade RAM on our staff devices that don't have at least 8 GB, upgrade staff devices to SSDs, set up workstations, some networking like making sure phones, staff workstations and student devices are patched into the appropriate network ports. We also do Chromebook repairs like replacing screens, keyboards, and trackpads. On occasion, when our interactive flat panels (IFP, fancy name for a large TV with a touch screen) we have to remove and replace them. On the software side of things, we re-image systems when necessary, backup user files using, try to help with some online curriculum problems, reset passwords for staff/students, update VOIP phone's information, reset Chromebooks, run updates, etc.
Anyone know in the us, if you can get cisco and comptia A+. To start off with, to get entry level roles as an it technician, or an it engineer? As well as entry level roles in cyber security?

I don't know if you've already figured it out by now. These are 2 very different IT jobs. I guess it really depends on what you want to do: Do you want to be a programmer or an IT tech? As an IT technician, you're basically tech support. You're running around all over the place helping people with their computers and/or software or other hardware. You will likely be in charge of installing new computer systems for new users, decommissioning old systems, re-imaging computers, etc. Its a lot of hands-on work. If you have no knowledge of computer hardware, you won't do well in this job, just like if you have no knowledge of computer programming, you won't do very well in a programming job. Programmers usually make much more money than IT technicians, but that greatly depends on your local job market and where you work. Personally, if I were you, I'd go with the programming route. Its great helping people with their tech problems.... That is until you have to help the same person for the 10th time when they angrily call you saying they can't print. however, the problem is that there is no paper in the printer and you've told them this 10 times already. Or when the person doesn't understand that they need to push the power button on the computer in order for it to power on.
