    And then your husband cuts a sandwich on the counter top and cuts the contact and wrecks it. Or you pull something out of the oven and put it on the counter and melts the contact. Best is to use the existing counter and work with what you've got, eg: sand and polish the counter, or apply a clear sealant paint to the counter rather then covering it up.

      I don't think I've ever in my life put anything hot directly onto the countertop. I always use a pot mat underneath pots and baking trays and whatever else is hot.
      I also don't think I've ever cut directly on my countertop. That's what cutting boards are for, to protect the top.
      Honestly, as long as you are mindful of what you are doing the contact paper is going to remain perfectly intact.

      @@srn4004. - Yeah but that's you, not everyone is perfect and mindful like you are.

      @srn4004. Před 2 lety +58

      @@thar34 How do you forget to use a cutting board? If you grab a knife, you grab a cutting board. Simple as that. Why would I want to cut on my countertop? It's way simpler to just grab the cutting board and put it in the dishwasher afterwards (or just put it next to the sink for washing dishes), no need to clean your countertop.
      And using a pot mat for hot stuff is literally just common sense. You should never put something hot directly onto any surface, if you forget you probably shouldn't handle hot things. I mean, you also don't forget a heat resistant glove when taking stuff out of the oven, do you?
      And if your children can't remember to use proper utensils when cooking, they probably should have access to those things to begin with.

      @@srn4004. - Because of everyday life, stress, things on your mind, in a rush, ect.
      But like I said agin, not everyone is as perfect as you. People do forget, people do have things on their mind while chopping/cutting food or while taking out hot food from the microwave or oven. We've all forgotten at some point in our lives, just some people forget more then others as while getting/ preparing food is not the only thing we all might have to do. And even if we do remember, the next person living in the household might not be so mindful as we are.

    Contact paper on countertops is quite possibly the dumbest idea and the biggest waste of time and money. You cannot use your countertops like a fully functioning kitchen without damaging this contact paper and having it looked really tacky after about a week. Go ahead and budget to get your countertops either replaced or refinished with laminate sheets - it's not as expensive as you think and you can be confident using your countertops for years. Or try the new, thick vinyl rolls. CONTACT PAPER IS FOR THE INSIDE OF CABINETS AND DRAWERS!!!
