    That's what I like about your videos Rob.. you have the "voice of reason" on your shoulder telling you this can be done cheaper... and your results speak for themselves.. nice one (low low price of £16k made me LoL)

      Absolutely, and also the voice of reason for when not to DIY things, like the floor rising screen, which would be a total nightmare and probably dangerous in more than a few ways!

    I'm using Bluesound soundbar + 2 flexes and a sub woofer. It creates really good immersive sound and is very easy to setup. The speakers talk to each other through a dedicated wifi network so there is no lag there if you decide to not wire everything up. Plus: no account needed for this and it does have an HA integration

    Really looking forward to watching the shelf video (not something I ever thought I would say ;). I have kickstarted the NexiGo Aurora Pro and it should be here sometime in Oct. I am planning to build a cabinet/etc like you did here to house my screen(have been eyeing the vividstorm floor raising ones for awhile. The more I see them in action the more I like them!) My PJ, a 'normal' TV and my speakers. The sliding shelf looks like a great way to go! Thanks!

    @Rob, that's a great setup!
    Thanks for sharing!
    I too have a similar setup, except that my motorized screen is ceiling mounted and not floor rising like yours; and my 1080p projector is a motorized drop down mount, from a concealed ceiling cutout.
    I'm debating whether I should upgrade to an expensive 4K, HDR-10 capable projector, or just place four cheaper 55" UHD TVs (bezel less) in a 2 by 2 grid on the wall, akin to a video wall, with a 4-way 4K HDMI splitter. What's your opinion on this, and any suggestions you have?
    The advantages of this I see are enormous - easier cabling and setup, single remote operation, simple integration with HA etc.

      It's definitely the project that I've tried the hardest to be inclusive of people without power tools or a 3d printer... So limiting! It's also got a full home assistant version (ESPHome) and ESPAlexa version. I wish someone would build a great JS front end for the ESPHome web portal that could pass in variables. I love making projects with ESPHome, but they just aren't that useful without a home assistant instance.

    What a nice surprise. A lot of people have a motorised projection screens in front of TV’s, but the hidden short throw projector is a very cool and much more original idea 👍🏻
    PS Looking at your setup it seems obvious to add a pair of stereo speakers on either side of the projection screen. There are decent soundbars out there, but you don’t have to be an audiophile to tell the difference between a soundbar and proper stereo or surround HiFi. You just need to make a side by side comparison which most non-audiophiles don’t want to.

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp  Před 2 lety +3

      It is a bit pricey, however, a DIY drawer is pretty easy because it's small, simple and only requires moderate precision. A floor rising screen on the other hand is pretty complicated, requires metal fabrication, and high precision since a screen with wrinkles in it is basically worthless.

    Great video. Awesome setup. You should definitely get the Sonos Arc full system. The thing sounds absolutely incredible. The front soundstage is very wide and the sub shakes the house. It is probably as close as you can get to true surround system from a soundbar. Also it sounds great for music too especially Apple music in atmos from the Apple TV. By the end of November Sonos will be releasing an update to add DTS sound to all Sonos soundbars.

  • @projectionscreenVividstorm

    Thank you for using our screen . Awesome video!

I also wanted the ambilight with hyperion started it 4 years ago but never got it to work, it stopped working after 250 leds or so :( i used a raspberry pi and a arduino that was recommended. maybe i try to fix it again because i still have al the parts (hdmi splitter, hdmi to av, led strips and so on). you gave me good inspiration for some things :)

      Nice. I'm actually doing Hyperion a little differently. I'm running my LEDs with a controller called a digUno running an awesome program called WLED. Hyperion is set up on the raspberry pi and sends data over the network to WLED, this is probably an overkill setup but I like that the DigUno is a fused output, and I already had it setup before I decided to use Hyperion, so it was nice that they play well together.

      We watch the 65" TV most of the time. When the TV is on but not a "focus" there's no reason to have a 120" screen blasting. We use the projector for movies, big sports events, or cinematic TV shows (Silo on AppleTV was perfect on the projector).

      Really? The Q90R has rear satellites and a sub. Actually, the performance of it isn't my issue, it sounds pretty good. Most of the problems come from the digital processing in the soundbar itself which introduces enough delay to cause lipsync issues on both the projector and the TV, and make amazon multi room audio unusable.

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp  Před 2 lety

      Definitely not as good. The 5050UB is a bulb projector designed specifically to have crazy black levels. Any laser projector will be bad comparatively, that said, the black levels are significantly better on the XGiMi than the Epson LS300.

    Hey man, I have watched your projector videos and I have a question for you and I hope you're gonna read it. :-)
    So... I just ordered myself a Thundeal TD90 projector on Aliexpress after seeing very good reviews about it. It is a 720p native.
    It should arrive this week.
    Now, I did some more checking on the sellers page and now I noticed the Thundeal TD96 which is 1080p.
    I'm thinking off sending the TD90 back unopened and ordering the TD96.
    What do you think?
    I will watch it from about 9/10feet away...
    Now, I don't have a need to spend a couple of thousand dollars on a 8k projector sort of speak but obviously, the quality is still important.
    Could you maybe take a quick look and tell me what you think. It's only 90€ more so...
    Thank you in advance!!

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp  Před 2 lety

      How far you are away doesn't matter too much, the important part is how large of a screen you are looking to make. Neither of those projectors seem all that special to me, and never having tested them myself I can't say that one would be better than the other. I'm in the middle of testing for a second video for projectors in the $100-300 range, and so far Nexigo has a strong lead: amzn.to/3DTdR36

    • @nikostevens1
      @nikostevens1 Před 2 lety

      @@TheHookUp I honestly don't know alot about it. It's gonna be my first projector. So as I read on the description page... 9.8feet away will give me a 100inch screen. I can't go any further than that since that is the max distance I can put it. And that is pointed straight at the wall I'm gonna project on. I have big hopes for the Thundeal TD96 (as far as that pricerange goes) because I have watched a video about in it full detail and the person really seemed to know what he's talking about). Reviews are also good but I don't base myself too much on that. I will take a look at your suggestion as well. Maybe a stupid question but I am correct about the 9.8feet away --> 100 inch screen correct? It may be 10ish since I'm not at home at the moment and only did a quick meassurement. It's not less :p

    Heads up that a 4k pixel-shifting projector uses a 1080p image, shifted by half a pixel to get the extra resolution. This can mean you only get the full refresh rate at 1080p instead of 4k - though I've got no idea if the same is true for input delay. My source is here, but note that they aren't experts on this, but are interested in how well games play on different display technologies: czcams.com/video/iFJsEfWsTd4/video.html

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp  Před 2 lety

      It's definitely possible that "game mode" gets rid of the pixel shifting to decrease input lag. However, as far as pixel shifting in general it's really common and is seen up through even super high end UST projectors.
