  • The 90’smilk IG account recently posted about how in 2003 GQ magazine featured Kate Winslet on the cover, but not without having completely “retouched” the image to make her appear……what for it....…skinnier.
Winslet, being the bad ass woman she is, clapped back and publicly stated that “The retouching is excessive. I do not look like that and more importantly I do not desire to look like that.”
Maybe I’m a little triggered by this story. Mostly because growing up I just remember being so bombarded by these images, so obsessed with pursing the standard, developing this hatred against my body. In high school I’d hang pictures from magazines in my pantry to deter myself from eating. And then to learn LATER on that most of it was FAKE…talk about a mind f***.
While the damage had already been done…I’ve spent the last decade of my life trying to unlearn, and rewrite what it means for ME to feel healthy, for ME to feel beautiful, for ME to feel strong, and knowing that my journey will LOOK very different from everyone else’s.
So, just thought I’d take this venting session to remind you that you’re journey is uniquely yours, so take a deep breathe and let that comparison f***in go because 99% of the time it’s FAKE.
